The purpose of this study was to analysis students’ vocabulary in learning English of Ninth grade at SMP Swasta Yayasan Pangeran Antasari, Medan in the academic year of 2018/2019. The researchers used descriptive qualitative method to describe and implementing factual condition and characteristic. There are 72 students that decided two classes at ninth grade as the population. But the researcher only took one class consists of 36 students as the sample. To collecting data, researchers use questionnaire and vocabulary comprehension test as procedure. In analyzing the data, the researchers identifying the difficulties of students’ vocabulary and cause difficulties by analyzing students answer sheets and their mistakes. There were 25 students (70%) incorrect answer in the questions. There were 6 students (16%) in modal, there were 8 students (23%) in simple past tense, There were 8 students ( 24 %) in simple present tense, 3 students (7%) troubled in simple continuous tense. Meaning.  Students who gave incorrect answer in the questions were  29 students (82%). Others difficulties is translation being other types of the questions that examined in this research. it was found that there were 23 students (64%) who were unable to give the correct answer. Concluding the cause difficulties of students’ vocabulary in learning English are the first students difficulties in pronouncing the words. Grammatical form be the second cause because the written form is different from the spoken form in english. The last, students does not give their attention to study english more, knowing a words much more, and limitations their time to sources of information about new words vocabulary. The research aims to find out the English Materials need of the students of Genetic Computer School Singapore in Learning English. The quantitative and qualitative method were conducted in this research to provide the description of the students’ needs. In collecting the data, the researcher applied interview for lecturers and questionnaire for the students as the instrument of the research. There were two lecturers and thirty of second-semester students in the 2017-2018 academic year as participants in this research by conducting purposive sampling.The result of this research revealed that students of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) mostly needed two skills in learning English. First, speaking skill that is to communicate in English and to present their final project exam. Second, writing skill is used to do their assignment and final report in English. Language element which most important and needed by the students is vocabulary, then followed by grammar. The interview result showed that in teaching English the lecturers do not have permanent syllabuses for four semesters and the existing materials are design based on lecturers perception, it is not based on students needs. The information of this research as the recommendation for the institution that might be used as guidance to design the English syllabuses.

The objective of the study is to find out the effect of VOA Learning English YouTube Channel on students’ simple past tense. This study was conducted at 8th grade students of SMP Pustek Serpong in academic year 2017/2018. The researcher used quantitative analysis with a quasi-experimental design. As the sample, the researcher uses one class with total number of 37 students. By using t-test, the finding showed that tcalculation (7.89) was higher than ttable (2.026) at a significant level of 5%. It indicates that VOA Learning English YouTube Channel gives the positive significant result in improving students’ simple past tense.

This study was aimed to find out whether or not Teaching Prewriting Stages can improve students’ ability in writing descriptive paragraphs, to describe the role of prewriting stages in helping the students to write descriptive paragraphs. This study was conducted by using Classroom Action Research. It was done through 1) planning, 2) action, 3) observation, and 4) reflection. The population and the sample was the ninth grade students of SMP Swasta BUDISATRYA at 2018/2019 academic year. This research applied quantitative and qualitative method. Quantitative data were taken from the students' writing descriptive paragraph test. Qualitative data were taken from observation, interview, and diary notes. The result of the research shows that there was some improvement of students’ ability in writing descriptive paragraphs through teaching prewriting stages. It can be proved from the students' score which improved from cycle 1 to cycle 2.  The improvement can be seen that in pre test the means score was 33.52. In the first cycle, meeting 1 the means score was 37.35, in meeting 2 was 42.64 and in meeting 3 was 52.64. In the second cycle, meeting 1 the means score was 64,41,  in meeting 2 was 80 and in meeting 3 was 91.17. The improvement also can be seen from the percentage of the students’ achievement in writing descriptive paragraph by using prewriting stage; in pre test, no one of the students got 75 points. In the first cycle, in meeting 1, and meeting 2, there was also no one student got 75 point,  but in meeting 3 there was 23,52% (8 students) got 75 points. It means there was an improvement about 23.52 % . In the second cycle, in meeting 1 there was 29.41% (10 students) got 75 points, it means that there was an improvement about 5.89%. In meeting 2 there was 79.41% (27 students) got 75 points, it means that there was an improvement about 50%.  In meeting 3 there was 100% (34 students) got up 75 points. It means that prewriting stages helped the students to write descriptive paragraphs through brainstorming, listing supporting point, making a simple outline to write event, place or object related to the topic. So, the students’ achievement in writing descriptive paragraph is significantly improved by applying prewriting stage.

Learning english vocabulary using jeopardy game technique make the studentsfeel interesting and grasping new words easily. Therefore, the purpose of this researchis to find out whether or not there is significant effect of jeopardy game on grade sevenstudents’ vocabulary knowledge. The sampels were taken using cluster randomsampling technique, with the total number of sampels are 74 students which aredivided into two classes. The location is at MTs Al-Ihsan Bekasi. The research methodadopted was quasi experimental with research design was post-test only control group.To collect data, the students were given instruments in the form of objective, multiplechoice each numbering 30 for both control class and Experimental class. The findingsshowed that the jeopardy class students got mean score 80 higher than non-jeopardyclass students who got 77. It indicates that there is a significant difference in each classand can be seen from the analysis using one way ANOVA that produced (Sig.) valueof 0.002 was smaller than (<) Alpha 0.05, Ho is rejected and HA is accepted. Itshowed tha there is significant effect of jeopardy game on grade seven students’vocabulary knowledge at Mts Al-Ihsan Bekasi in the Academic Year of 2016-2017.

Grammar is the rules in a language for changing the form of words and joining them into sentences to create meaning. This research is focused on error analysis  on the using BE in Simple Present and Simple Past Tenses. The purpose of this study is to find out the grammatical errors in using BE in students’ composition. In this study the writer took the the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Nainggolan in the Academic Year of 2017/2018 consisting 25 students as the sample. The data are analyzed with descriptive qualitative method. The data were identified based on kinds of errors. The kinds of errors are omission and misordering. The results of the data analysis show that there are 155 errors made by the students in their compositions. The writer concluded that omission errors 68 or 61,80% in Simple Present Tense and  49 or 51% in Simple Past Tense, misordering errors 16 or 14,60% in Simple Present Tense and 22 or 23% in Simple Past Tense. But out of category there are 28 or 23,60 redundant sentences in Simple Present Tense and 25 or 26% redundant sentences in Simple Past Tense. The writer also concluded that there are two causes of errors, namely Translation and Carelesssness. Based on the result of the research, it is suggested that the students should learn and memorize grammatical rules an teachers should give clearer explanation on grammatical rules in English.

This research is aimed to find out the typical errors on students in writing narrative text by using simple past tense at grade IX of SMP SwastaTalitakum Medan. The researchers used a descriptive qualitative method in this research. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that the errors of misinformation are the most frequent errors in which the ninth grade students committed 233 errors in regular verb. Moreover , it was followed by errors of misinformation with 150 errors, addition with 38 errors, omission with 29 errors and misordering with 16 errors. Then errors in regular verb, it was followed by errors of misordering with 36 errors, omission with 38 errors, addition with 56 errors and misinformation with 156 errors. It can be concluded that after analyzing through the research, the writer got the data about students’ errors, which are commonly made in narrative writing using simple past. Their errors are misinformation, addition, omission and misordering. Keywords: error analysis, simple past tense

To produce competitive students that ready to face the trend of language learning in English as a foreign language, especially speaking skills, teachers should be ready to develop good planning in the teaching process. It can be in the form of strategies that can motivate students in the learning process. Moreover, in teaching elementary school students, teachers should be more creative to encourage students’ motivation in speaking by using attractive teaching media which involves physical activity because young learners usually only have a short attention span. By using teaching media, students will learn a language in such attractive and fun ways. Thus, the researchers want to see the use of Fun Fishing in teaching speaking at one of the Elementary Schools in Lampung to encourage students in learning English. This research used a qualitative method since it disclosed how to implement Fun Fishing media in an Elementary School in Lampung. As a result, the students were divided into four groups consisted of 2-3 members and learned English which involved physical activity. To sum up, using this media in learning English can motivate students to speak in English and make teaching and learning become more fun because they did physical activity.

Reading is central to learning process, by reading people can gain important information in this millennial era. Study reading aims to develop the reading skills that you need to find information quickly, to identify what is important in a text, to compare different sources of information and to read critically. The aim of this experimental research is to investigate the effect of communicative approach on reading competencies of 10th grade students of SMK SEHATI in the academic year of 2018/2019. It is about 60 pupilss were assigned as sample through random sampling. Data of student’s reading competencies were collected by using multiple choice of descriptive text test. The goals of this research are (1) to know what students’ responses toward WH question tehnique; (2) to know whether the WH Question can improve students’ math in English. This research used the descriptive qualitative method. The writer described and analyzed the students’ mistakes in speaking skill using local materials. The research was carried out at the first year students of math department in 2016/2017 academic year. It was strated from September 2016 to January 2017. The population was the first semester students of math department in academic year of 2016/2017. The number of population were 21 students. The results of this research were (1) the tudents gave good responses toward the WH Questions learning, and (2) the WH questions improved the Math students’ ability in learning English. Keywords: Speaking, Local-wisdom, WH-questions

As a demand of English learning, eighth grade students need to be able to write a recount text about their personal experiences. For this reason, this study employs a qualitative case study research design to analyse students’ writing of recount text. The data were obtained by collecting students’ writing in two different classes of eight grade junior high school in Bandung, Indonesia during the even semester of academic year 2016/2017. The self-composed recount texts were selected based on different proficiency levels as suggested by the English teacher of the school. For the framework of the text analysis, this study draws on Systemic Functional Linguistic theory, and recount text. Meanwhile, content analysis was employed to explore the analysis of the writing. The results presented that majority of problems on the students’ writings consist of social function and language feature. In terms of language features, there were still several errors in spelling, punctuation and capitalization. In term of Interpersonal metafunction, errors usually occurred in the Finite as there was an overlap of past tense and present tense. As a result, it was found that most of the clauses were written in material process and it still lack of reference in the theme-rheme structure.
