Communication effectiveness has been one of important factors in daily life covering workplaces, relationships, and all sorts of human interaction. As a workplace or even learning centres, any organisation shall need to practise good and effective communication, from within and outside organisation, to achieve its goals. Many researchers have developed and shared various theories, models and frameworks with regards to this topic of interest due to its cruciality to be achieved and practised. However, communication is a very broad subject and is affected by many internal and external factors. The internal and external factors may both refer to communication barriers, which could be a stimulus, a situation or even an object that may hinder or prohibit any part of a communication process making it harder for messages to be encoded and decoded precisely by parties involved. The purpose of this research is to investigate the factors influencing effective communication in an organisation. This research is a qualitative research that used questionnaires as the instrument for collection of data. The data was collected and viable at 77% out of 69 respondents which was derived from the total population of 90 elements. Sample selection was based on a non-probability approach. The data collected was then evaluated by using Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) through which numerous tests were converged such as reliability test, normality test, frequency distribution, descriptive analysis and multiple regression analysis. The results indicated that organisational environment affects effective communication more than language and culture do. Keywords: Effective Communication, Organisation, Cultural Studies

What determines companies to file patents? To answer this question we present a systematic review, in which 22 empirical studies published in scientific periodicals were selected. Based on the descriptive analysis of these studies, a framework is proposed that brings together a set of explanatory variables that influence the propensity to patent in internal and external factors. The cumulative results of the reviewed articles suggest a positive correlation of firm size and R & D with the propensity to patent. A unanimous result among the articles is that the Industrial Sector in which the company is inserted has a significant influence on the propensity to patent. Regarding the variables Age, Collaboration Network and Competition, the results of the research were divergent, indicating a positive, negative or non-significant relationship. However, these determinants are still poorly understood due to the divergence of the research results.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the dividend performance of eight UAE based banks between the years 2001 and 2005. The analysis was undertaken by examining three sets of financial ratios that are routinely used to measure bank dividend performance. The main ratios that were employed put a particular focus on the banks’ ability to pay dividends in relation to market value of its share, earnings and ability to cover the payments. Descriptive statistical analysis was used to rank the performance, measuring the dispersion and the stability-variability of the indicators. Conclusions were then drawn from the computation of the descriptive analysis of ratios that allowed the author to make an effective comparison of said banks. This type of analysis was used to summarize the performance of each bank based on three criteria, mean, standard deviation and coefficient of variation of each banks performance. The findings showed that eight banks performed reasonably well during the period studied, but have different strategies in paying their dividends across the years under study. The analysis reveals that these banks have been affected by both internal and external factors.

Consumers tend to buy more than they planned when out for shopping. The factors leading to the customers to buy more than they planned to on the basis of impulse are several and discussed in this paper. Primary data has been collected by only questionnaires on which descriptive analysis, factor analysis and correlation tools have been used to analyse the impact of different factors on impulsive buying behavior. The findings imply that the factors- past purchase experience, attractive store design and location trigger most impulse buys among consumers. However, factors like a good aroma and hedonic and emotional motives play a less important role in making consumers buy impulsively. Also, the study found that the post purchase dissonance is higher in unemployed/retired, married females than the other respondents’ categories of the survey. Moreover the study found that the factors are mostly independent of each other and do not correlate with other factors, except a set of few including hedonic motives and past purchase experience.
