The negative impact of the insecticides usage triggers the development of new methods other than insecticides, one f them is ovitrap tools (mosquito egg traps). The use of ovitrap as part of dengue prevention efforts has proven to be easy, cheap, safe for health and environmentally friendly. Ovitrap is effective in reducing mosquito populations. The purpose of the activity is to analyze the knowledge, attitudes and actions of students in the use of ovitrap as an effort to control Aedes sp mosquito larvae after the implementation of health counseling activities and demonstrations of making Ovitrap.  All students at Pondok Pesantren Al Falah Putera became the population. As many as 96 students who were willing and involved in this activity became the research sample. McNemar test showed significant results on knowledge (0.018), attitude (0.033) and action (0.00). The making  andthe  use of Ovitrap socialization still needs to be sought in order to increase the Santri knowlwege.. It is hoped that this activity can be implemented every year as an effort to reduce the risk of dengue fever in Banjarbaru Cit

Dengue fever is a painful mosquito-borne infection caused by different types of virus in various localities of the world. There is no particular medicine or vaccine to treat person suffering from dengue fever. Dengue viruses are transmitted by the bite of female Aedes (Ae) mosquitoes. Dengue fever viruses are mainly transmitted by Aedes which can be active in tropical or subtropical climates. Aedes Aegypti is the key step to avoid infection transmission to save millions of people in all over the world. This paper provides a standard guideline in the planning of dengue prevention and control measures. At the same time gives the priorities including clinical management and hospitalized dengue patients have to address essentially.

In this study, the natural dye was extracted from Spartium junceum L. (SJL) flowers and applied on cellulose (cotton) and protein (wool) fabric. Fabrics were pre-mordant with alum prior to the dyeing process. Considering the global requirements on zero waste and green policy, the dyeing process was intended to be as much as possible environmentally friendly but still effective. Therefore, mordant concentration was optimized due to the reduction of the negative impact. The efficiency of the dyeing process was investigated by examination of fabrics’ color characteristics and colorfastness to washing properties. In this paper, we have proved that the extracted dye from Spartium junceum L. is an acidic dye (mordant dye) which is more applicable for the treatment of wool fabrics. In this paper, it was proved that phytochemicals responsible for coloring are part of the flavonoids group. The UV absorption spectra of extracted dye show 4 bands in the region of λmax 224, 268, 308 and 346 nm which are ascribed to bands characteristic for flavonoids. Wool fabric pre-mordant with 3% alum and dyed shows great chromatic (C*) properties where C* value is in a range from 47.76 for unwashed samples to 47.50 for samples after 5 washing cycles and color hue (h°) is in a range 82.13 for unwashed samples to 81.52 for samples after 5 washing cycles. The best result regarding the colorfastness properties is shown by the wool sample treated with 3% alum after 5 washing cycles (total difference in color (Delta E*) = 0.87). These results confirm that metal (Al) from alum mordant make strong chemical bonds with wool substrate and dye since Delta E* values decrease in comparison to Delta E* values of the cotton samples treated the same way. The results revealed it is possible to reduce the concentration of mordant up to 3% and obtain satisfactory results regarding the colorfastness. Nevertheless, future research will go in the direction of replacing synthetic mordant with a more environmentally friendly one.

Abstract Background Dengue is a mosquito-borne flavivirus present in many metropolitan cities of tropical countries. Methods During and after the dengue season (September 2018 to January 2019), we conducted a case-control study in order to determine the risk factors for dengue fever in Hanoi city, Vietnam. 98 dengue patients and 99 patients with other acute infections, such as Hepatitis B virus infection, were recruited at Department of Infectious Disease of Bach Mai national hospital in Hanoi. Patients were interviewed using a structured questionnaire covering demographic, housing, environmental factors and knowledge, attitude, and practice on dengue prevention and control. Univariate analysis and multivariable logistic regression were used to determine the risk factors of dengue status. Results The mean score of knowledge items and practice items was only 7.9 out of total 19 points and 3.9 out of total 17 points, respectively. While the mean score of attitude items was 4.8 out of total 6 points. Multivariable logistic regression indicated that older patients had lesser risk of getting dengue infection as compared to younger adults aged 16–30, and patients living in peri-urban districts were less likely to suffer of dengue fever than patients living in central urban districts (OR = 0.31; 95% CI 0.13–0.75). This study could not find any association with occupation, water storage habit, knowledge, attitude, or practice on dengue prevention. Conclusions All patients had a relatively low level of knowledge and practice on dengue prevention and control. However, the attitude of the participants was good. We found that age group and living district were the risk factors correlated with the dengue status. Communication programs on raising dengue awareness should be repeated all year round and target particular groups of adolescents, younger adults, landlords and migrants from other provinces to improve their knowledge and encourage them to implement preventive measures against dengue fever.

Background: Febrile illness is considered a frequent medical syndrome of dengue. Due to the increasing prevalence of dengue infectivity, appropriate diagnosis among patients helps regarding timely medical intervention, etiological examination as well as disease control. Objective: To estimate the frequency of suspected and probable cases of dengue in febrile patients and their knowledge about dengue fever, presenting at outdoor of Jinnah Hospital, Lahore. Methodology: It was a cross-sectional study, in which 400 adult febrile patients visiting at outdoor of Jinnah Hospital, Lahore were included. A convenient sampling technique was carried out. Dengue prevention and control more reliant on reducing its vector,  Aedes sp. mosquitoes by mosquito breeding nest eradication method. Therefore, identification of the primary container of the Aedes sp. breeding site particularly in the urban region of dengue-endemic area is a crucial effort to conduct an effective dengue prevention program. This research aimed to identify the primary container of the Aedes sp. breeding site in the urban region of the dengue-endemic area. This is a descriptive cross-sectional study, located in an urban region of dengue-endemic area within Banyumas Regency of Central Java Indonesia. A total of 300 houses in three urban areas were observed in urban areas of Purwokerto namely Arcawinangun, Purwanegara, and Karangpucung (100 houses each area). A total of 1504 water-holding containers were observed. All container was observed and recorded the type, color, lid condition, position, and the presence of mosquito larvae. The analysis was conducted by calculating the percentage of types, color, lid condition, and position of the container also the presence of mosquito larvae. The result of this study highlighted that flower pots and bathtubs were the primary types of containers with Aedes sp. larvae in the urban area. The characteristics of larvae-positive containers mostly open, bright, and located indoor position. Dengue prevention efforts by targeting the primary types of containers for mosquito breeding are expected to reduce the adult mosquito population.

Understanding teachers’ perceptions towards dengue prevention in schools is an important factor for an optimal implementation of dengue prevention and control measures. This qualitative study aimed to explore teachers’ perceptions of dengue and its prevention in an environmentally friendly manner. 31 informants were chosen from 6 elementary schools. Data were obtained by Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and then analyzed by using Systematic Text Condensation and an editing analysis style. The results showed that the teachers confirmed the presence of patients with dengue hemorrhagic fever from students and residents living around the school. Most teachers agree and want to know about ovitrap applications in school, which is environmentally friendly. However, most teachers refuse to manage inorganic waste because of the bad experience. Engaging teachers in dengue prevention in schools has a high potential for success as long as it is efficient in terms of time and effort.

Environmental condition is very important for the Dengue Fever Prevention. People in this area lacked the knowledge, awareness of an environmental condition. To achieve sustainable control of the occurrence of dengue fever, therefore, this mixed methodology research was performed: 1) to gather general information related to the community environment for dengue fever prevention, 2) to develop a paradigm for dengue fever prevention, and 3) to compare the levels of knowledge, attitude, and community participation after attending a training course on dengue fever prevention. The gathering general information related to the community environment for dengue fever prevention was performed by survey method, 341 participants were recruited by using the Taro Yamane formula and stratified random sampling, subsequently, the model was developed for training. After that, the training and evaluation were implemented. Thirty-two volunteers participated in the training on dengue fever prevention. The testing instruments consisted of Knowledge Test Form, Attitude Test Form, and Dengue Prevention Participatory Test Form. The results indicated that the dengue fever prevention paradigm was supported by the following six factors: 1) having reliable data, 2) providing training on disease prevention, 3) having competent agents, 4) presenting the dengue prevention system to the community, 5) having people participation, and 6) having environmental management. Concerning the training on dengue fever prevention, the villagers’ post-test scores on knowledge, attitude, and participation in dengue fever prevention were significantly higher than their pre-test scores. This research increased the knowledge, attitude and participation of people after training on dengue fever prevention in their community.
