The exploitation of spiritual values to develop tourism in Vietnam already formed the value chain of spiritual tourism. The first goal of the value chain of spiritual tourism is increasing benefits for local economy. However, the issue of economic benefits is only one part of the goal of sustainable development. If we only focus on economic benefits and do not care about environmental, cultural and social conservation, we will have to get social and environmental risks. From fieldwork activities with in-depth interviews, participant observation in spiritual tourism destinations of Vietnam, including Sam Mountain - Chau Doc - An Giang, the author had the opportunity to learn and recognize the practice of stakeholders in spiritual tourism. Combined with the secondary sources, the author discusses characteristics, forming conditions and exploitation of spiritual tourism in Vietnam. Since then, based on the perspective of sustainable development, the author makes some recommendations to upgrade the value chain of spiritual tourism.

Purpose This paper aims to identify and analyse sustainable development in the Greek hospitality industry. Drawing on an evaluation of two leading hotel groups in Greece, TEMES S.A. and Grecotel Hotels and Resorts and their respective landmark hotels Costa Navarino and Grecotel (Lux Me) Rhodos, the authors focussed on the role that the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have played in the industry and in a country heavily reliant on its tourism industry. Additionally, this paper examines and assesses the concepts of the triple bottom line and the circular economy and suggests practical approaches by which hotels may achieve sustainability. The recommendation relies on the belief that the two concepts are interconnected in tackling and achieving a successful vision of the future of sustainability through until 2030. Design/methodology/approach The case study focus with regard to the two hotel groups relied heavily on their respective 2018 sustainability reports. Additionally, further secondary research was conducted via several journal databases from 2013 to 2020. Third-party sites were also leveraged including the UN and Forbes. Findings It is evident that hotel companies often highlight their sustainability programmes online so that they are accessible to consumers and other stakeholders – including investors. This enables companies to create and close business loops in innovative ways. Their actions on sustainable development help the local economy and in turn help the country. This paper showcases examples of two leading Greek hotel groups, TEMES and Grecotel already working towards a more sustainable operating future. Originality/value In spite of research that was limited to secondary sources, the topic of sustainability in Greece is of great value as it is yet to be fully explored. This paper does yield some practical insights that will be of interest to the industry as to how to use the UN’s SDGs as pathway drivers for a successful circular economy.

Blitar Regency has a potential terrestrial ecosystem to improve community welfare. However, the government's low commitment to manage terrestrial ecosystem can cause environmental damage. For example, damage to the terrestrial ecosystem in Pandanarum Village due to deforestation has caused natural disasters such as floods, landslides, and air temperature rise. Not only in Pandanarum village, but also the surrounding villages were also affected by the disaster. This condition led to establish an environmental-loving community called Sahabat Menanam in year 2015. Sahabat Menanam is doing some efforts to overcome the terrestrial ecosystem damage in Pandanarum through community empowerment approach. This study aims to describe the efforts of Sahabat Menanam in empowering Pandanarum community, by using qualitative methods. Data was collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The study shows that Sahabat Menanam has succeeded in empowering the Pandanarum community, which is demonstrated by an independent community through increasing knowledge and capacity to conserve terrestrial ecosystems. After the community becomes an independent society, efforts to conserve terrestrial ecosystems can be carried out in a sustainable manner by community elements themselves with or without intervention from Sahabat Menanam.

The aim of the article is to present the concept of the silver tourism economy and to identify its supply and demand in rural areas in Poland in relation to sustainable development. The problems of interest were analysed in the context of values held by and ethical norms observed in rural communities. It was found that ethical aspects of sustainable development were embraced by older members of rural communities, and, consequently, were closely connected with the supply and demand sides of the silver tourism economy. The study revealed that the supply side of the silver tourism economy in rural areas was more developed than the demand side. The authors emphasize the need for natural, cultural, social and economic resources (associated with the supply side) to support the demand side of the rural tourism market. They also indicate that ethical values and norms of sustainable development are important for the silver tourism economy. The article is based a review of the literature, analysis of secondary sources and official documents and participant observation undertaken by of the authors.

Polymer recycling is one of the major areas that need adequate intervention in any megacity’s effort toward sustainable development. However, megacities in Africa face various challenges in general waste management and also lag behind in developing efficient waste-to-wealth services. Therefore, this study examined the difficulties experienced by the actors involved in the value chain of polymer recycling in the Lagos megacity. Thirty in-depth interviews and four key informant interviews were conducted with value chain and supporting actors, while 400 questionnaires were administered among residents of Lagos metropolis. The study found that negative public perception, lack of adequate capital, poor health conditions, inefficient infrastructure, and technological difficulties are some of the problems in polymer recycling in the megacity. Therefore, social label redefinition, effective dissemination of recycling information, an efficient loan system, import duty relaxation, and stakeholder involvement are recommended.

Islamic educational activities can take place anywhere, including in the Majelis Doa and Taklim At-Taqwa at Wonokromo, Pleret, Bantul. In general, the informal education activitieslike have not sustained for long times, however mujahadah weekly activities of the Majelis has been going on for 22years with the number of jamaah or adherents over 3000 people, there is even a tendency of increasing the number of jamaah. By a qualitative approach through participant observation and in-depth interviews, the article writer finds three things that underlie this fact. First, KH. Abdul Khaliq Syifa as a leader of Majelis applied a model of public speaking that combine all the elements of the speaker, the listener, message, medium, feedback, interference, and situation. Judging from the purpose of public speaking, Kyai Khaliq’s lecturesare more patterned informative, persuasive, argumentative, educational, and entertainment. That is why, he talks very positive impact on the audiences or jamaah. Secondly, there are two values of Islamic education imparted to the jamaah, i.e practical and theoretical values. The practical value is shown in the form of exercise and refraction for zikr through the reading of al-Fatihah 41 times then followed by tahlil. While the theoretical values are Islamic teachings writen in the Mukhtarul Ahadith which includes the dimensions of aqidah, fiqh, morality, mysticism, and others. Third, based on the narrative of the jamaah, the mujahadah activities in the Majelis Doa dan Taklim At-Taqwa have positive impactson increasing spirituality and the meaning of their lives. Among the positive impacts occur on the satisfaction of their spirituality, their religious quality and their socio-economic benefits
