AbstractThe flood disaster that struck the Province of South Sulawesi (South Sulawesi) at the end of January 2019, was the worst natural disaster in the past 20 (twenty) years. Of the 24 (twenty four) districts and cities in South Sulawesi, there are 6 (six) districts and cities experiencing very poor conditions, namely the Regencies of Jeneponto, Maros, Gowa, Takalar, Barru and Makassar. As a result of this disaster, tens of thousands of families lost their homes, property was destroyed, social facilities such as schools and houses of worship were also severely damaged and some were destroyed. Even more pathetic, because more than a hundred people died. This results from an imbalance of ecosystems causing serious problems. Community understanding of the need to maintain ecosystem balance is still very low coupled with the socioeconomic situation which makes the community more pragmatic. The problem is, how do you increase the awareness of the community in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem? And how to foster disaster-conscious attitudes and behavior for the community, especially in disaster-prone areas? Therefore, the writing of this article aims to comprehensively examine people's attitudes related to maintaining ecosystem balance and fostering disaster-conscious behavior in the community, especially in disaster-prone areas as an alternative to disaster risk management. The method used is qualitative with the type of case study studies. The selection of informants is done purposively and the data processed are primary and secondary. From the results of this study it was found, the increasingly severe environmental damage became the main trigger of natural disasters that occurred in South Sulawesi at the end of January 2019. This environmental damage, is dominant because of the very exploitative behavior of the community towards the environment. For example, what happened in Gowa district, the big floods that occurred because around the Jeneberang River and Bili-Bili Dam areas - sand mining activities have been going on for decades. Likewise, the Mount Bawakaraeng area, which used to function as a buffer against flooding, has long been deforested as a result of causing landslides whenever there is heavy rain. This condition also occurs in the districts of Jeneponto, Maros and others - these areas are vulnerable to heavy rainfall. To overcome this serious problem, one alternative is to form community groups that are aware of disasters. This strategy of forming disaster awareness groups, by combining approaches from above (government) and from below (the community) Musibah banjir yang melanda Provinsi Sulawesi Selatan (Sulsel) di akhir Januari 2019, merupakan bencana alam yang terparah selama kurun waktu 20 (dua puluh) tahun terakhir ini.

Since water is an indispensable part of humanity, human communities settle near water sources, and one of the most popular water sources is a river. In the past millennial, around 80% of Javanese communities were located near rivers. However, traditional views, attitudes, and behavior during the development and urbanization era and lack of political will have compromised sustainable uses of rivers choked with pollution from industrial and neighborhood wastes. This paper will discuss the stories of pollution and waste management that have led to Indonesia being one of the most polluted nations by looking at traditional socio-cultural views of waste and rivers and efforts to deal with the problems of garbage. This study is mainly based on various data from previous research, NGO and government programs, and interviews with local community members and leaders. In addition to the challenges of garbage disposal and cleaning up Indonesian rivers, this study will conclude with suggestions on how to change people’s attitudes and behavior and government programs to create long-term sustainable and participative waste management efforts in Indonesia.

This research is motivated by a concern to the maritime community in Indonesia and South Sulawesi in particular, which is up to now still very behind compared with other communities on the mainland or degenerate far backward compared with the maritime community in the past royal era (eighth century ~ XVII century: Sriwidjaya, Majapahit, and Gowa~Makassar). This study aims to reveal the negative effect on classical Sufism of maritime community economic behavior, by taking the case to the Pakkaja Community. This study uses Verstehen method is done by "reversed burden of proof". The results showed that the backwardness of maritime community, in particular the Pakkaja Community is rooted in the mentality of weak intention characterized by low productivity, dependence excessively and consumptive lifestyles in their lives, is a negative deflection of classical Sufism, which stuck very strong since early Islamization of the archipelago and Bugis ~ Makassar in particular.

Using a new information system is a journey that end-users follow, sometimes by choice and at other times by obligation. This journey changes their attitudes and behavior as they explore the system and discover its workings. In this chapter we map such a journey using Morgan’s (1986, 1997) metaphors by tracking a change in end–user attitudes and behavior. We use a longitudinal case study approach to follow this journey, report the direction and any shifts in end-users’ conceptual position. Our results show that within a space of eighteen months the organization’s overall metaphorical stance shifted from the organism to the machine metaphor. This reflects the end-user’s initial optimism for the change to enable ease of working to that of efficiency dictated by the senior management towards the end. This shift was due to organizational conditional factors, such as the ISD methodology.

Abstract The purpose of this study was to find out whether the selection of practical subjects in schools was still a gendered phenomenon. The motivators were findings of an investigation on business imitations in the Bulawayo Metropolitan Province, which revealed that men and women still participated in gender based entrepreneurial activities. A qualitative approach, which utilised the case study design was adopted for this study. Self-administered open-ended questionnaires were used as data collection instruments. The sample comprised 5 Heads of Departments, 15 practical subject educators and 75 students from 2 purposively selected co-educational schools in the Bulawayo Metropolitan Province. Data were analysed according to research questions. Findings showed that there were attempts to break the gender barriers as some girls were now studying subjects that were previously male dominated and some boys had enrolled for subjects that were in the past the preserve of girls. The study concluded that there was a gradual paradigm shift in the mind-sets of school authorities, learners and some parents. Recommendations were that school authorities should continue to intensify campaigns on de-constructing the learners’ gender stereo typed mind-sets and engage various stakeholders in the change process to enable learners to comfortably fit in a globally competitive environment.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to present an innovative agile methodology that proposes fundamental changes in managing the development of in-house information systems in small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and benchmarks it with one of two database technologies enabling these systems to be both efficient and competitive. Design/methodology/approach The objectives are achieved by presenting an elaborated design of the agile methodology that manages the system development process by addressing three basic components: roles played by system players, process needed to fulfill the system development, and artifacts to document the project. A case study is conducted as a proof of the effectiveness of the proposed methodology and measures whether the selection of the database technology affects the effectiveness of the system development process. Findings Results show that, compared with traditional methodologies, the proposed methodology reduced the cost of system development and testing by 30 percent and enhanced the IT – business alliance. Further, this work found that the selection of a suitable database technology is strongly related to the complexity and interrelationships between the data used. Originality/value Such research did not receive the needed attention (Hunter, 2004) even in the past decade. Successful adoption of IT by companies could be in the form of customized IS which could be expensive for SMEs to adopt due to a lack in technical expertise and financial resources. The proposed methodology has the potential to promote sustainable development through helping SMEs in reducing the time and cost of IT project development.

ABSTRACTThis study discusses the Analysis of the Content of Sensationalism in Criminal News (Case Study of the Inews Program of South Sulawesi and KompasSulsel). The basis of this research began because of the fierce competition between television, newspapers and radio and the limitations of the medium, making television shift from the emphasis on public conversation leading to entertainment. There was a tight competition in the Market News. This condition provides an increase in a phenomenon called "sensationalism". Criminal news is classified into sensational news because the topics and images displayed include sensationalism. In addition, criminal news also has the ability to attract the attention of the public. This study aims to compare the level of sensationalism in news programs, especially criminal news on InewsTv and KompasTv, through the InewsSulsel and KompasSulsel programs. From these comparisons, the research method used is content analysis by comparing messages from different sources. This can be seen in the news of Inews-Sulsel and Kompas-Sulsel which are packaged with the selection of certain words in the title, the use of graphics, interesting drawings and information, the borrowing of expert mouths to convey ideas, angle setting for media presentation, music use, songs and repetitive effects so that they are familiar and determine the agenda agenda [agenda setting]. The results showed that the Inews-sulsel news program was more sensational in presenting news about the chaotic case of the Kingdom of Gowa compared to the Kompas-sulsel program.
