AbstractPressure ulcers (ulcers which caused by body pressure) are common problems in some sub-specific patients, such as, elderly patients, critical-ill and para paraplegia patients. Pressure ulcers induces problems: the costs involved, patients’ quality of life and mortality rate. Research purposed to compare the efectivity hydrocolloid dressing and sugar Povidine-iodine (1%) dressing. Research has been conducted within the 4 selected hospitals in 2 months period of time using non equivalen control group; pre and post test. Total sample was 25 patients, which divided onto 2 groups: hydrocolloid group and sugar povidineiodinee group. Pre-test was also done to obtain initial data to be used for further treatments with hydrocolloid dressing and sugar Povidine-iodine (1%) dressing. Each patient was treating for 3 weeks, and in each week was conducted a post-test. Results from processing the data obtained, indicating that there was no significant difference on wound size reduction. The cost involved was higher in the hydrocolloid group while the nursing time consumption was lower.

Background: Iron deficiency is a global public health concern and has implications on the health status of women in reproductive age. Objective: We hypothesized that improving iron intake with double fortified salt would improve food intake, resulting in higher energy, nutrient intakes, and weight indicators of female tea plantation workers. Methods: In this randomized double-masked study, the participants (n = 245) were assigned to receive salt double fortified with iron and iodine (DFS; treatment) or salt fortified with iodine (control) and followed for 7.5 to 9 months. Dietary intakes were measured at three time points, baseline, midpoint, and end line using (1) food frequency questionnaire, (2) 24-hour recall, and (3) weighed lunch intake. Anthropometric measures of height (cm), weight (kg), and mid-upper arm circumference (cm) were also recorded at three time points. Mixed-model repeated-measures approach was used to detect group differences across time. Results: Double fortified salt improved dietary iron intake in the treatment group compared to the control group ( P < .001). No other dietary or anthropometric differences could be attributed to treatment. Significant effect of time was observed in the intake frequency of major food groups and calcium, vitamin A and C ( P <.001 for all), suggesting an equal effect of seasonality in both the groups. Conclusion: Addition of DFS in the diet improved dietary iron intake but did not affect the intake of energy, other nutrients, or nutritional status indicators. The improvement observed in the dietary iron intake demonstrates that fortification is an effective strategy to address iron deficiency in at-risk populations.

To develop high qualities of rice flour breads, we tried to prepare breads using rice flours from major five non-glutinous rice cultivars on market shares of Japan and wild-type Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain YTPR1 isolated from pear Red Bartlett fruits. Apparent amylose contents of rice flours were measured about 12.1-19.9%. Damaged starch contents of these flours were about 22% regardless to the kinds of rice cultivars. Gluten was added about 20 wt.% based on rice flour, and breads were made in the same way. Any bread has caused caving. Next, the amount of water added in dough was regulated in consideration of moisture contents of rice flours. Except for Akitakomachi flour, breads largely expanded, although loaves volumes did not amount to that on bread made from bread flour and commercially available baker’s dried yeast. It was observed correlation between the amount of water and amylose contents of rice flours with R2 = 0.703. It suggested that the amount of water added in dough might estimate from amylose contents of rice flours. Specific volumes of these loaves were low compared with that made from bread flour. However, by sensory analysis, breads made from Hinohikari and Haenuki flours had total points closest to that made from bread flour: it could produce high quality of breads using Hinohikari and Haenuki flours and yeast isolated from pear Red Bartlett fruits.

An examination of neurophysiologic features of median nerve in third trimester of regularly controlled normal risk pregnancies is performed at the Department of Neurophysiology of Primary Health Centre in Tuzla during January / April 2006. Examined group consisted of 40 young females in third trimester of pregnancy, and average age of 25,6 +/- 4,9 years. Control group consisted of young healthy females with average age of 31,1 +/- 4,4 years. Symptoms and signs of carpal tunnel sy. (CST) had 12 patients, but diagnosis is neurophysiologically confirmed in 9 (75%) patients. In group of pregnant females without symptoms 3 (10,7%) patients showed neurophysiologic evidence of CTS. Sensory velocity of right median nerve was significantly lower in pregnant group of patients (p=0,002), but area of sensory potentials on both sides were lower in pregnant group (p<0,0001). Area of CMAP of right median nerve was significantly lower in pregnant group (p=0,0003). Significant differences in CTS group compared with control group were in sensory velocities of median nerve (left median nerve p=0,0007, right p<0,0001), and area of SNAP of both sides (left p<0,0001, right p=0,0001), but area of CMAP right (p=0,0003). In CTS group 7 females had unilateral and 5 had bilateral neurophysiological changes. Our conclusion is that neurophysiological parameters of median nerve in thirdtrimester of pregnancy are changed mainly due to high prevalence of CTS that might disturb quality of life and have psychological and physical implications on future mother. Hence, it is necessary to, continuously, pay enough attention in prevention or treatment of mentioned syndrome in this population group.

Background: The high prevalence of anemia pregnant women anemia in Indonesia reaches 50%–70%, and it is caused by many factors. First, it may be caused by low compliance of iron supplementation and second, it may be caused by bad distribution of iron supplementation. This prevalence results some effect: high maternal mortality rate, neonatal mortality rate, anemia in infancy, and low productivity. One solution to overcome this prevalence is by giving iron supplementation to pregnant women with husband’s supervision. Objective: This study aims to examine the relationship between iron supplementation with compliance, Hb value, and average of age gestation under husband’s supervision. Methods: This was quasi experimental non-equivalent control group design. Subjects were pregnant women aged 20–28 weeks whose hemoglobin level 8 gr/dl to 15 gr/dl. Subject were taken from three sub-districts of Bantul District, Special Teritory of Yogyakarta. Subject were divided into two groups, the first group (n=55) received 60 mg iron supplementation with husband’s supervision and the second group (n=65) received 60 mg iron supplementation without husband’s supervision. Results: The compliance of first the group was higher than the second group (x2=19,48 p<0,01). In the first group, iron supplementation was effective to increase Hb level it was statistically insignificant (p>0,05). In the second group, iron supplementation was also effective to increase Hb level and it is statistically significant (p<0,05). The difference of Hb level between two groups was insignifi cant. After the predictor variable was controlled using multivariate regression test, it showed that iron supplementation with husband’s supervision was effective to increased Hb level 0,8 gr/dl and statistically signifi cant (p<0,05). The gestation average of two groups was similar, but after predictor variable was controlled using multivariate test, it showed that iron supplementation with husband’s supervision had one week gestation longer than those group without husband’s supervision. Conclusion: Iron supplementation with husband’s supervision are effective to lengthen one week age gestation.

The present study aimed to determine optimum values of the process factors to obtain a standard method of preparation with best quality of dockounou.

Several samples of dockounou were prepared with different proportions (75 to 95%) of senescent plantain, cooking time, fermentation time and temperature of oven. Sensorial characteristics of the samples were investigated. Optimal values (scores) of both boiled and baked dockounou prepared with maize or rice flour were identified through tasters’ evaluation. Hence, the best scores were recorded with 90 and 85% of plantain paste proportion, respectively with maize and rice flours. Concerning cooking time, optimal values were registered at 60 minutes with maize-dockounou, and at 75 minutes with rice-dockounou flour. About fermentation time, the best sensorial characteristics were obtained at 4 hours for rice or maize-dockounou, but at 0 hours for the boiled rice one. Results revealed moreover that 160 °C would be the optimal baking temperature.

The optimized maize-dockounou would be better than the rice one on sensorial basis. Optimized maize-dockounou uses a larger quantity of plantain paste than optimized rice dockounou. This optimized dockounou uses shorter fermentation time than the traditional one. In general, the optimized dockounou is better than the traditional. It presents better characteristics and is more appreciated. Thus, optimized-dockounou is a real opportunity to convert rejected senescent plantains into foodstuff to help to feed the populations. That could be a way of food security.

The goal of this study was to assess an intervention program to reduce the impact of stigma on people with HIV and to enable them to cope with it. A quasi-experimental design, with non-equivalent control group and pre-and posttest was used. Participants were 221 people with HIV. of whom 164 received the intervention and 56 made up the non-equivalent control groups. The dependent variables were perception of stigma -enacted and internalized-, self-esteem, perception of self-efficacy, strategies used to cope with stigma -primary control, secondary control, and avoidance- and quality of life. Analysis of variance (MANOVAS and ANOVAS) was conducted to determine pretest differences and differential scores in both groups, and analysis of covariance (MANCOVAS and ANCOVAS) was performed to assess the efficacy of the program. The results showed reduction of perceived stigma and avoidance strategies and an increase in perceived self-efficacy to cope with stigma, disposition to use approach strategies, self-esteem, and quality of life. These results indicate that is possible to train people with HIV to cope with stigma.
