This study was an ex-post facto research, design to determine parental perception of the teaching of introducing sex education to adolescents in secondary schools in Cross River State, as the area of study. Two null hypotheses were formulated on the basis of the identified major independent variables of nature of parental perception and parental literacy status. A 15-item questionnaire was developed, validated and tested for reliability. It was then administered to 400 respondents (parents–200 male, 200 female) from 20 churches in the entire state (7 churches from central, 7 from south and 6 from north senatorial districts). The sample was selected by stratified cluster and simple random procedure. Data was analysed using the independent t-test. Results revealed that parental perception of the teaching of sex education to adolescents in secondary schools is significantly negative; no significant difference exists between literate and illiterate parents in their perception of the teaching of sex education to adolescents in secondary schools. It was concluded that parental perception of the teaching of sex education to adolescents in secondary schools is generally negative in Cross River State. Some recommendations were enhanced as the way forward. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3126/hjsa.v6i0.10714   Himalayan Journal of Sociology and Anthropology Vol.6 2014: 134-145

The purpose of this study is the engagement of students with the practice of physical activity (AFD). Three dimensions are observed: emotional (identification), behavioural (participation) and cognitive (investment in the task). Attention is given to groups related to physical education and they are compared with similar age and degrees groups. It is considered that his engagement with the AFD will affect his classes and the involvement of their students. The general objective is to describe the engagement with the AFD, and observe differences regarding gender, age and groups. Ex post facto type quantitative methodology is used by passing the questionnaire of engagement with physical activity (IMAF) of 22 items. The total sample is 321 students, 87 women (27.1%) and 234 men (72.9%), between 19 and 45 years old, with an average age of 23.15 years (SD= 3.07). The results show that the students are very engaged with the AFD, especially in the affective dimension. Regarding gender, the involvement of men is greater and the participation of women is lower. The AFD increases until the 24 years, decreasing later. The engagement of CAFYD students is higher. The results obtained are adjusted to the theoretical framework and will allow intervention programs for each group.

Abstract. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between physical activity enjoyment, motor self-efficacy, physical activity and level academic performance in Physical Education (PE). The study was conducted in 17 schools of Madrid (Spain) and it followed an ex post facto design. A total of 1,452 students participated in the study (49.6% male), aged between 10 and 18 years. The following measuring scales were used: PACES (Physical Activity Enjoyment Scale), E-AEM (Self-Efficacy Motor Scale) and PAQ-A (Physical Activity Questionnaire for Adolescents). These instruments showed high internal consistency with Alpha coefficients of reliability between .85 and .89. Proceeding with partial correlation and controlling for sex and age, academic performance in PE was significantly related with enjoyment during physical activity (r = .28), motor self-efficacy (r = .27) and level of physical activity (r = .21). Using logistic regression was observed that is more likely to fail physical education the students with low levels of enjoyment (OR = 2.72), low motor self-efficacy (OR = 2.39) and low practice of physical activity (OR = 2.19).
