Context: The production of scientific knowledge is not clearly understood by most individuals. In the information age, society faces challenges generated by discrediting institutions, including science, the proliferation of false news, disinformation and the relativisation of truth. These are significant issues that the school cannot refrain from discussing if it wants to educate for citizenship. Objectives: To investigate how conceptions about science influence and are influenced by fake news conveyed by the media and the contribution of literacy to minimise the effects of misinformation. Design: The methodology used in this research used a mixed-methods approach through content analysis of students’ responses combined with descriptive statistical techniques. Environment and participants: The research was carried out with 32 students, divided into two groups, attending the 9th grade of an elementary public school in Bom Princípio/RS. Data collection and analysis: Two questionnaires were applied: one for the conceptions about science and another to identify fake news. Results: Most students have a limited view of science and find it difficult to identify fake news through verification criteria. A correlation between student perceptions and the identification of false news was observed. Conclusions: Knowledge about science possibly enhances students’ perception of doubtful information. It is crucial to develop mediatic and information literacy skills as they can positively impact the identification of fake news and reduce its shares.

The article demonstrates the mass media receiver, who interacts with media and after reading, listening or watching the content online reacts by web publishing. The article presents examples of such reactions in the form of texts, obtained as a result of expe-rimental research (hidden ethnographic participant observation, survey auto-ethnography, in-depth, standardized/structured individual interview), which subjects them to qualitative research. This rese-arch consists in the analysis of the content and its form by using methods dedicated to examine lingu-istic pragmatics and interactionism. Therefore, it is assumed that the individual receiver participates in the media interaction, which I understand as the mutually indirect interaction of the sender and the receiver in media communica-tion process. The receiver’s reaction in this process may be, among others, online publishing, which is named as “surfer commentary”.

Learning media is a communication tool both print and audiovisual that is used to convey the material that will be delivered by educators to students in the learning process. The use of media as learning should receive special attention from educators in each learning process. If the media as a learning tool used is very interesting, it does not rule out the possibility that students will better understand the concepts that will be delivered in the learning process to the fullest. Media that can be used in learning physics one of which is Crocodile Physics. This research was conducted to determine the positive effect of using Crocodile Physics media in learning on understanding physics concepts. The study was conducted at Indraprasta PGRI University in 2018. The population is the first semester students of the 2018/2019 academic year. The researcher used quantitative research methods. The experimental design used is classical experimental design. The data analysis technique used is the Independent sample t-test using the SPSS 16 program. The research hypothesis to be tested is that there is a positive influence on the use of Crocodile Physics media in learning to understand physics concepts. The results of the calculation of the study have a sig value of 0.00 < 0.05 which states that there is a positive influence on the use of Crocodile Physics media in learning towards understanding physics concepts. Libraries have used media development as part of the culture to influence people to use the library. An example of the use of media as a means of mediation is the PerpuSeru program. Previously, this program partnered with 34 libraries, but currently, the PerpuSeru program has partnered with more than 400 libraries and reading parks in Indonesia. One of the media used in transferring information is Instagram; PerpuSeru has an Instagram account namely @perpuseru in which various information about the PerpuSeru program is available and the extent to which the program is running. The purpose of this study was to determine the extent of the followers’ perceptions in receiving information provided on the @ perpuseru Instagram by decoding-encoding theory, to examine the extent this theory developed in a media in the present era, and the role the theory played in the media. This study used the descriptive qualitative research method by interviewing some followers of the @perpuseru account. The result found two different views from followers, namely followers with a hegemonic dominant point of view who accepted all the content of information conveyed, and others with a negative perspective who had other considerations in receiving information on the posts of @perpuseru account. However, there were no followers with optional viewpoints. It can be concluded that the two perspectives of @perpuseru Instagram followers are the hegemonic and negative perspective.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme for secondary education students requires the successful completion of the Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) component (more recently renamed Creativity, Activity, Service) which is based on the philosophy of experiential learning and Academic Service Learning. In this article, the technique of mixed content analysis is employed to examine the perceptions of students in an International Baccalaureate Greek private school regarding the implementation and effectiveness of CAS. The empirical results indicate that students perceive and conceptualise volunteering activities in two contrasting dimensions, namely idealistic-humanitarian and utilitarian-instrumentalist, implying that Academic Service Learning projects may need to be adjusted to achieve their objectives.
