This research aims to describe the historical facts in the novel of Dharmagandul by Sri Wintala This study aims to describe the historical facts in the novel of Dharmagandul by Sri Wintala Achmad which was set in the Majapahit Kingdom. The novel was examined using the New Historicism approach, which used non-literary texts combined with literary texts to be analyzed. The procedures of this study included: (1) parallel reading techniques, namely techniques performed by reading literary texts (novels) with non-literary texts; (2) the analysis used includes data presentation and discussion. The analysis used in studying the novel Dharmagandul by Sri Wintala Achmad was paralleled by non-literary texts relating to events in the novel; and (3) presentation of the conclusions from the results of the analysis. The results of the study included: (1) the applying of Dyah Pitaloka by Patih Gajah Mada to Prabu Hayam Wuruk; (2) Wikramawardhana's post-HayamWuruk power; (3) Paregreg war; and (4) Sri Ratu Suhita's revenged against Raden Gajah. The results of the study of historical facts in the novel Dharmagandul are expected to provide knowledge that literature can be born from historical reality and this research is expected to be a lesson for the people of Indonesia to not repeat the bitter events that have occurred during the Majapahit kingdom.  The aim of this article is to analyze the novel Yogmaya to find out the balance between the fictional world presented in it and the history related to it. Written as a novel on the background of Rana Period in Nepal, my endeavour is to find out whether the novel is successful to portray the contemporary Nepalese society. In order to analyze the novel this study draws insight from new historicism that demands the equal weight for literary foreground and historical background. For this, the study is limited within some aspects of New Historical approach and fictional world related to social phenomena presented in the novel. Finally, this article includes the major finding of this study that the fictional foregrounding of the novel successfully portrays the contemporary social background of the concerned time and place. Free translation is used while citing texts from the novel since it is in Nepali.

Through this new approach of historicism, this study aims to reveal the construction of the meaning of "striving" in a new historical perspective, either by 'republican' or ruler (colonist who wants to set foot again). The novels characterized by the background during the independence war were chosen to be the primary data source in this study. The method used in the research is qualitative interpretive, namely the parallel reading between literary texts representing the history of the Indonesian struggle with historical texts depicting similar events. Data analysis techniques used are content analysis consisting of three paths, including: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing or verification. The results showed that the meaning of the struggle in the novel consists of two points of view, namely for the republic and ruler (colonizers: England who dibonceng NICA). From the perspective of freedom fighters, the republic considers the figures involved to show respect for the national struggle and to contribute to defending the independence already achieved. As for the opposite, for the colonizing nation (the Netherlands), struggling in that perspective is no more proper "terrorist and thief".

Arya Penangsang was a Duke of Jipang who ruled in the mid-16th century. He is the grandson of Sultan Patah, the founder of the Sultanate of Demak. The Babad Tanah Djawi tells the story of Arya Penangsang killing Pangeran Mukmin to take back his father's rights. Pajang's attack succeeded in killing Arya Penangsang. The bad image of Arya Penangsang was built by the Sultanate of Pajang. Meanwhile, the Mataram Sultanate, Surakarta Palace, and Yogyakarta Palace continued for hegemony. Meanwhile, for the coastal community of Java, Arya Penangsang is a respected figure. The object of research is the novel Penangsang (Tembang Rindu Dendam) which was published in 2010. The purpose of this study is to explain the problem of resistance, namely disobedience in the context of the relationship between power and domination [1]. This study uses library and ethnographic methods by utilizing this new historicism (NH) approach which links literary texts with non-literature. The results of this study indicate three important messages. First, people interpret their social environment in terms of their past history. Second, Arya Penangsang is a prince who became a local hero. Third, past history is a builder of cultural ties.

The language of literary texts is adorned with proverbs, a cultural element which to some extent has become significant in the growth and development of African literature and in the portrayal of meaning assigned by the writer. This paper explores the relationship between linguistic structures and culturally constructed meaning in Chinua Achebe’s novel A Man of the people by critically examining the transitivity of proverbs used in the work. This study is anchored on Halliday’s Systemic Functional Grammar. The analysis reveals that Achebe uses more material processes, followed by mental processes and then relational and verbal processes. Furthermore, the types of transitivity process, participants, circumstatials contribute towards the construction of themes reflected in the novel. Based on the results, the paper concludes that Achebe uses a variety of transitivity processes as proposed by M.A.K. Halliday with the exception of existential and behaviour. He uses actors, sensers, carriers, identifiers, to convey message of his novel. Achebe mostly uses circumstances of extent, location, and manner to show that the actions take place in a certain place, time, and at a certain frequency. The paper concludes that Achebe’s use of varieties of processes, participants and circumstances has made his novel interesting and readable.

This study aims to describe the representation of (1) Indonesian history, (2) culture, and (3) economy in the novel Kubah. The novel, written by Ahmad Tohari, is analyzed using New Historicism, in which non-literary texts are drawn on to understand the literary text being analyzed. The research procedure involves: (1) parallel reading technique, that is reading both the novel and the non-literary texts simultaneously, (2) analysis, as shown in the data presentation and discussion, involving parallel reading in which events in the novel are highlighted and related to the non-literary texts; and (3) drawing conclusion based on the analysis of historical, cultural and economic facts contained in the novel, which have been cross-checked against the non-literary texts of similar topics. The results of the analysis include: (1) historical representation of the recruitment, the hiding, the arrest, and the exile of PKI (Indonesian communist parti) members before and after the 1965 tragedy; (2) cultural representation of the Javanese, as indicated in the language use, figurative speech and the Javanese tembang; and (3) economic representation as signaled by the weakening of the economic condition after the 1965 tragedy. The use of new historicism in analyzing the novel Kubah is expected to broaden the readers’ historical knowledge, thus avoiding the bitter experiences in the past to repeat themselves in the future.Keywords: new historicism, representation, history, culture, economy

The article examines how modern Kazakh novels in the framework of historical reality show the traditions and customs of our people, formed over the centuries, it is considered how the authors find an artistic solution to depict the customs and customs of the people. The national character is conveyed through the content and form of the epic. The article notes that the experience of our ancestors, which has developed over thousands of years, should be continued in the future.The image of the national character is particularly evident in modern Kazakh novels, created in the last quarter of the XX century and at the beginning of the XXI century. The author of the article considers the features of the aesthetics of the artistic solution in S. Elubay's novel “Ak Boz Uy” (Lonely Yurt): from the documentary fiction is born, against the background of nature the realities of human life are revealed, national and ethnographic traditions are shown in comparison with the reality of time, etc.


This research article focuses on the theme of violence and its representation by the characters of the novel “This Savage Song” by Victoria Schwab. How violence is transmitted through genes to next generations and to what extent socio- psycho factors are involved in it, has also been discussed. Similarly, in what manner violent events and deeds by the parents affect the psychology of children and how it inculcates aggressive behaviour in their minds has been studied. What role is played by the parents in grooming the personality of children and ultimately their decisions to choose the right or wrong way has been argued. In the light of the theory of Judith Harris, this research paper highlights all the phenomena involved: How the social hierarchy controls the behaviour. In addition, the aggressive approach of the people in their lives has been analyzed in the light of the study of second theorist Thomas W Blume. As the novel is a unique representation of supernatural characters, the monsters, which are the products of some cruel deeds, this research paper brings out different dimensions of human sufferings with respect to these supernatural beings. Moreover, the researcher also discusses that, in what manner the curse of violence creates an inevitable vicious cycle of cruel monsters that makes the life of the characters turbulent and miserable.

Penelitian ini bertujuan membahas hubungan intertekstual novel Candra Kirana karya Ajip Rosidi dengan "Tjerita Panji Angreni". Unsur apa saja dan bagaimana novel Candra Kirana memiliki hubungan intertekstual dengan "Tjerita Panji Angreni' sebagai teks hipogramnya adalah pertanyaan penelitian ini. Dalam menelaah hubungan intertekstual ini, penulis menggunakan teori intertekstual Michael Riffaterre yang menitikberatkan pada analisis isi dengan metode pembacaan heuristik dan hermeneutik. Temuan penelitian ini adalah bahwa novel Candra Kirana menunjukkan hubungan intertekstual dengan Tjerita Panji Angreni melalui unsur tema, citra tokoh, dan alur cerita. Meskipun demikian, novel Candra Kirana juga mentransformasikan makna-makna progresif yang berbeda dengan "Tjerita Panji Angreni", seperti makna nasionalisme yang berupa cinta akan kerajaan, makna kesetaraan gender yang berupa kesetiaan laki-laki, keberanian, kekuatan, perjuangan dan ketidakpasrahan perempuan, makna kerakyatan dengan pelibatan tokoh utama dari kalangan rakyat dan makna religiusitas yang berbentuk dasar niat Panji dalam mencari pasangan hidup.[Intertextuality on Novel Candra Kirana and "Tjerita Panji Angreni": Riffaterres Perspective] This research aims to discuss the intertextuality of Candra Kirana novel by Ajip Rosidi with "Tjerita Panji Angreni". What elements and to what extend Candra Kirana novel has an intertextual relationship with Tjerita Panji Angreni as the hipogram text were the questions of this research. In examining this intertextual relationship, the writer used Michael Riffaterre's intertextual theory which focused on content analysis with heuristic and hermeneutic readings. The findings of this study were that the novel Candra Kirana showed intertextuality with the "Tjerita Panji Angreni" through elements of themes, character images, and story lines. Even so, Candra Kirana's novel also transformed progressive meanings that differ from the Tjerita Panji Angreni such as the meaning of nationalism in the form of love for the kingdom, the meaning of gender equality in the form of male loyalty, courage, strength, struggle and women's insecurity, the meaning of populist with engagement the main character of the people and the meaning of religiosity in the form of Panji's intention in finding a life partner.Keywords: intertextuality; novel; "Tjerita Panji Angreni"

“A lesson learned the hard way is a lesson learned for a lifetime.” Every bad situation hurts; however, it sure does teach us something a lesson. In the same manner of a new lesson for Human lifetime, history is observing 'The Novel COVID-19 ’, a very horrible and strange situation created due to fighting with a microscopic enemy. WHO on 11 February 2020 has announced a name for new disease as - 19 and has declared as a global public health emergency and subsequently as pandemic because of its widespread. This began as an outbreak in December 2019, with its in Wuhan, the People Republic of China has emerged as a public health emergency of international concern. is the group of a virus with non-segmented, single-stranded and positive RNA genome. This bad situation of pandemic creates new scenes in the life of people in a different manner, which will be going to be life lessons for them. Such lessons should be kept in mind for the safety of living beings and many more things. In this narrative review article, reference was taken from a different article published in various databases which include the view of different authors and writers on the "Lessons to be from Corona".

The article deals with the peculiarities of transformations in the process of translation of English prose into Ukrainian. Despite the large number of works covering this issue, the problem of translating prose texts is not dismissed. There is a need to systematize and study the types of lexical and grammatical transformations, used in translating literary texts, in practice. To observe the process of formation of inter-language transformations, the novel by an Irish writer Colm Toibin ‘House of Names’ has been chosen. The various scientists’ approaches to establishing the transformation types are analyzed. It is revealed that due to differences in the syntactic, grammatical and morphological structures of the English and Ukrainian languages, lexical and grammatical transformations are widely used in translation. Lexical transformations are the deviations from direct vocabulary matches. The lexical transformations are mainly caused by the fact that the volume of the lexical units of the original language and the language of translation do not coincide. Among lexical transformations, the most common are generalization, concretization, compensation, lexical additions. Grammatical transformations are to transform the structure of a sentence in the translation process according to the rules of the source language. The transformation can be complete or partial depending on whether the structure of the sentence changes completely or partially. The article presents the examples of the grammatical transformations of inversion, replacement, addition and omission comparing the original text and its translation.
