Electric vehicles (EVs) are considered to be a solution for sustainable transportation. EVs can reduce fossil fuel consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and the negative impacts of climate change and global warming, as well as help improve air quality. However, EV adoption in Thailand is quite low. Against this backdrop, this study investigates barriers and motivators for EV adoption and their public perception in Thailand. A total of 454 responses were collected through an online questionnaire. The results indicate that the top three concerns of respondents about EVs are public infrastructure and vehicle performance in terms of charge range and battery life. Respondents with more than five years of driving experience in the age range of 26–35 years old could be key targets for early EV adoption.

Flooding remains a common environmental hazard worldwide, causing some of the most devastating natural disasters of the last century. This is why understanding public perception hasbecome such an important topic for policy makers concerned with flood risk management.This study investigated public perception of flooding events through analysis of risk communi-cation for Thailand’s flood crisis in 2011. An online questionnaire was electronically distributed toresidents potentially affected by flooding in Bangkok. Results from 437 returned surveys indi-cate that Thai residents tend to display both cognitive and affective biases in their perceptions of flood risk. The majority of respondents believed the great flood of Thailand 2011 was directly caused by government mismanagement and negative impacts of climate variability. These biases mightoccur because of difficulty in evaluating flood probability and lack of adequate information. Floods and related topics mainly evoked feelings of stress, anxiety, boredom, powerlessness andfear. The majority of Thai respondents distrusted any informationprovided by the central govern-ment,while rumors and misinformation could have affected public perceptions and responses tothe flood. The general failure of preventive action and poor risk communication have been reported. Further implications (i.e. Cognitive-Affective Interference in Protective Anticipatory Adaptation; CAIPAAmodel) and further recommendations are discussed.

Abstract. Background: Gatekeeper training is an effective suicide prevention strategy. However, the appropriate targets of online gatekeeping have not yet been clarified. Aim: We examined the association between the outcomes of online gatekeeping using the Internet and the characteristics of consultation service users. Method: An advertisement to encourage the use of e-mail-based psychological consultation services among viewers was placed on web pages that showed the results of searches using suicide-related keywords. All e-mails received between October 2014 and December 2015 were replied to as part of gatekeeping, and the obtained data (responses to an online questionnaire and the content of the received e-mails) were analyzed. Results: A total of 154 consultation service users were analyzed, 35.7% of whom were male. The median age range was 20–29 years. Online gatekeeping was significantly more likely to be successful when such users faced financial/daily life or workplace problems, or revealed their names (including online names). By contrast, the activity was more likely to be unsuccessful when it was impossible to assess the problems faced by consultation service users. Conclusion: It may be possible to increase the success rate of online gatekeeping by targeting individuals facing financial/daily life or workplace problems with marked tendencies for self-disclosure.

This study aims to look at the effect on the public perception of trust in the police. The research was conducted in December 2012. The design of this this study is a quantitative method. Subjects in this research were 124 citizen in the Jabodetabek area with an age range of 18 years and minimum of High School education/equivalent. It’s using the incidental technique sampling to get the sample. Data of this research was collected by the instrument which has 27 aitem perception and trust instrument which has 37 items. These results show that there is a significant effect between perceptions of trust in the police. Perceptions positive effect on confidence. So Ho is rejected and Ha accepted perceptions of the effective contribution of 37.5% confidence.

<p>The Tegalsari village is the large village with the second largest population in Bruno District, Purworejo Regency. It makes Tegalsari village have several potentiality to become ecotourism place. The government wants to develop ecotourism in Tegalsari Village to boost the economy and the welfare condition that categorized as poor village. The first stage of ecotourism development is planning stage to know the public perception of the development of ecotourism in Tegalsari Village.This research aims to examine public perceptions of the development plan of Tegalsari Village ecotourism, Bruno District, Purworejo Regency. This research uses qualitative basic methods with interactive inductive data analysis methods. The research location was chosen intentionally or purposively. Determination of informants in this study using the snowball sampling technique. The number of informants is 14 informants. The validity of the data is obtained using data triangulation. The results of this study indicate that the community provides a positive perception of ecotourism development. Ecotourism development was initiated and welcomed by the local community. The community hopes that Bukit Sitetepan ecotourism development can improve people’s welfare. There are several supporting factors and obstacles to the process of developing ecotourism and ecotourism development also bring positive and negative impacts. According to the community, the positive impact caused is greater than the negative impact.</p>

The development of electric vehicles (EVs) has drawn considerable attention to the establishment of sustainable transport systems to enable improvements in energy optimization and air quality. EVs are now widely used by the public as one of the sustainable transportation measures. Nevertheless, battery charging for EVs create several challenges, for example, lack of charging facilities in urban areas and expensive battery maintenance. Among various components in EVs, the battery pack is one of the core consumables, which requires regular inspection and repair in terms of battery life cycle and stability. The charging efficiency is limited to the power provided by the facilities, and therefore the current business model for EVs is not sustainable. To further improve its sustainability, plug-in electric vehicle battery pack standardization (PEVBPS) is suggested to provide a uniform, standardized and mobile EV battery that is managed by centralized service providers for repair and maintenance tasks. In this paper, a fuzzy-based battery life-cycle prediction framework (FBLPF) is proposed to effectively manage the PEVBPS in the market, which integrates the multi-responses Taguchi method (MRTM) and the adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) as a whole for the decision-making process. MRTM is formulated based on selection of the most relevant and critical input variables from domain experts and professionals, while ANFIS takes part in time-series forecasting of the customized product life-cycle for demand and electricity consumption. With the aid of the FPLCPF, the revolution of the EV industry can be revolutionarily boosted towards total sustainable development, resulting in pro-active energy policies in the PEVBPS eco-system.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate the exposure of a student population to celebrity chef television programmes, to assess the influence these figures have, and how they are perceived. Design/methodology/approach – A survey was conducted through an online questionnaire distributed at Bath Spa University. The approach included asking respondents why they watched programmes featuring celebrity chefs; to select a named celebrity chef whom they thought had most influenced their food habits, and to name particular chefs relating to campaign descriptions. Findings – A significant proportion of the study group watched television programmes fronted by celebrity chefs (84 per cent); the main reason for watching was for entertainment. Overall, reported influence was insignificant, though Jamie Oliver was selected as the chef with most influence on the respondent’s food habits. Jamie Oliver’s campaign to improve school dinners was also the most recognised, and celebrity chefs were generally viewed positively. Research limitations/implications – The study population was quite specific in its gender, age and ethnicity, and therefore might not be representative of wider society. Further work could consider gender differences in chef influence, as well as different forms of exposure. Originality/value – Despite their ubiquity, academic research into the role of the celebrity chef in modern society is limited, where very few studies have assessed the influence of named chefs or the public perception of these figures. This paper gives an insight into this under-researched field.

The Chinese police started using body-worn video cameras (BWVCs) from 2010 in some cities and provinces. On July 1, 2016, shortly after the death of Lei Yang during arrest by police, the Ministry of Public Security ( Gong’anbu) introduced BWVCs as mandatory for all the Chinese frontline police officers through issuing Regulations on Audio and Video Recording of Onsite Law Enforcement for Public Security Units (RAVR). However, despite the nationwide use of BWVCs, the research literature on BWVCs in China remains sparse. Studies from the United States and the United Kingdom provide evidence of the importance of officers’ buy-in to the new technology. It is, therefore, essential to know Chinese officers’ views and evaluations of using BWVCs. Using an anonymized online questionnaire, adapted from published international prior studies, this article reports and evaluates the views of 255 Beijing officers of the Beijing Police Department. Our analysis suggests that, overall, there was a high level of support and a high level of self-reported use for BWVCs among respondents not only because they are required to use them but also because they wanted to. Officers perceived more benefits than disadvantages of using BWVCs and most thought BWVCs would help them in their daily work without reducing their enthusiasm for law enforcement. Some differences were found between officers from different working units and between male and female officers. There were also weak negative correlations between length of service as a police officer and supportive attitudes toward BWVCs. Most criticisms were about technical issues such as higher expectations on the battery life and BWVC reliability.

The purpose of this study is to measure the influence of masculine ideology on gender role conflict experienced by Karo men. The sample of this research is Karo male with 296 people with age range between 17 - 73 years and the average age is around 41.9 years. The scales used are The Male Role Norm Scale from Thompson & Pleck (1986) and The Gender Role Conflict Scale from O'Neil et al (1986). Regression test results showed that R = 0.469 and R2 = 0.220. This shows that the influence of masculine ideology on gender role conflict is 22% while the rest is influenced by other variables. This research is considered very important because the amount of research on gender role conflict in men is still limited in Indonesia but have a lot of negative impacts. Moreover, in general the tribes in Indonesia are dominated by patrilineal culture.

Abstract Battery replacement and fuel costs are the major recurring costs over a lifetime for HEVs. Here, the authors attempt to identify the optimal operating points for the minimum and maximum state of charge (SoC) along with power ratings of the motor and fuel converter to increase the battery life and fuel economy without any detrimental effect on vehicle performance. The simulations have been carried out on Ford C-Max Energi (2016) as a representative for PHEVs based on the Urban Dynamometer Driving Schedule (UDDS) and Highway (HWY) driving cycles. The software used for these simulations is the Future Automotive Systems Technology Simulator (FASTSim), developed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). The optimal determined values of the parameters led to a 3.8% reduction in the present value of the lifetime cost while improving the battery lifetime by over 18%. At the same time, a 4.3% improvement in the driving range have also been observed. This study will help in achieving optimal cost reduction in these vehicles.
