Coffee was one of the important plantation commodities in the national economy. This can be seen from the role of the coffee plantation sector in providing employment plants, providing the State's foreign exchange through exports. One of the goals of coffee farmers in managing their farming was to make a profit. In achieving this goal, farmers face several obstacles. By joining farmers in a farmer group forum can help explore the potential, solve the farming problems of its members, thus farmer groups have a strategic position in realizing quality farmers. The research was conducted in Sukasari Subdistrict, Sumedang Regency with the unit (subject) of analysis being 70 farmers who cultivated coffee in the harvest season from January to March 2020 Hypothesis testing. path. There was a positive relationship between the dynamics of farmer groups and farmer management. This was evidenced by the correlation value between the dynamics of farmer groups (X1) and managerial farmers (X2) which reached 84.1%. The better the group dynamics, the better the farmer's managerial, which consists of technical skills and business / skills aspects. The dynamics of farmer groups and farmer managerial influences positively on the success of coffee farming. the higher the value of farmer group dynamics (X1) and farmer managerial (X2), the effect on the increase in farming (Y).

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to analyze the role of specific internal states (i.e. the set of sustainable values and motivations) that underlie group formation and joint business idea identification of farmer groups in the context of Burundi. Design/methodology/approach Quantitative and qualitative data were combined in this study. Quantitative data were analyzed using basic statistics. Qualitative data were collected in focus group discussions with farmer groups. Findings Findings revealed that groups are not just formed on the basis of homophily (same level of internal states) but also on “compensation” and “committed leadership.” Moreover, prior sustainable behavior of members influences sustainability of new group business ideas and the nature (e.g. focus on farming) of that business idea. Research limitations/implications As this study was done at an early stage of group formation and does not include group dynamics over a longer period of time, further monitoring of the groups is needed to examine if the observed motivation persists. Originality/value Although there is a vast amount of literature on entrepreneurial and top management teams, literature on the (early) mechanisms of entrepreneurial group formation in an emerging economy and rural context is relatively scarce.

Coffee is an important commodity in international trade. However, coffee farming in Indonesia is mostly managed by smallholder farmers who still apply traditional technology. This study was aimed to: (1) analyze the level of institutional role, agribusiness capacity, autonomy of farmer, and sustainability of smallholder coffee farming; (2) analyze factors affecting autonomy of farmers and sustainability of smallholder coffee farming. This research was carried out in Bondowoso and Malang Regency, East Java, Indonesia through the approach of survey conducted on 376 coffee farmers of all smallholder farmings of Robusta and Arabica coffee. Samples were collected by multistage random sampling done in the two regencies. Survey method was used in this study. Data were collected during July-October 2019 using the method of questionnaire, interview, and observation. Data were analyzed by descriptive and inferential method through SEM Lisrel. Result of the study showed that institutional support was categorized as low, while agribusiness capacity, autonomy of farmers, sustainability were included in moderate category. Factors found to affect the level of farmer’ autonomyof farmers were the support of institutional role and agribusiness capacity of farmers. Factors directly affected the sustainability of smallholder coffee farming was autonomy of farmers, whereas the role of institution and agribusiness capacity of farmers were found to indirectly affect sustainability. To strengthen autonomy of coffee farmers towards the sustainability of smallholder coffee farming, agribusiness capacity building and strengthening is necessary. Therefore, all stakeholders (government, private institution, and community) will immediately design such program that involves the synergy of multi-institutions related to smallholder coffee farmers.

Abstract Soil bioengineering is part of vegetative land conservation activities, including covering all use of plants to maintain the carrying capacity of the land. The sustainability of coffee farming achievement in the upstream watershed area is closely related to the application of soil bioengineering technology. This study conducted to identify the recent studies of soil bioengineering technology and its application in coffee farming toward increasing the land productivity in the upstream watershed. The research location is a smallholder coffee plantation upstream of the Way Besay sub-watershed, spread over 3 sub-districts, Air Hitam, Way Tenong, and Sumber Jaya sub-District, West Lampung, Lampung, Indonesia. Coffee farmers as many as 167 people as respondents. The data analysis method used exploration of the applicability of soil bioengineering technology at the micro-level. The mapping of the role of soil bioengineering trace using the VosViewer tool. The results of the analysis show that the readiness level application of soil bioengineering technology in coffee farming includes the production and use of organic fertilizers made from local materials, the use of mulch as soil cover, agroforestry with a variety of tall canopy plants/MPTS, the planting of multiple cropping (planting various yielding crops), and plant diversification with alley planting. Soil bioengineering technology has a very high potential to increase land productivity to support sustainable coffee production in the upstream area of the Lampung watershed.

Abstract Arabica coffee is one of the plantation commodities that has an important role in Indonesia’s economic activities. Arabica coffee as one of the leading export commodities that contributes to the country’s foreign exchange. However, in reality the rate of growth in the value and volume of imports is greater than the growth of exports. This study aims to identify the problems of traditional Arabica coffee farmers in Indonesia. The results of a journal review show that some of the problems of smallholder farmers in Indonesia are low productivity, low farmer skills and knowledge, inadequate land use and climate, inadequate transportation facilities and infrastructure, coffee farming capital, market uncertainty and unstable selling prices, so that a strategy is needed to reduce and overcome these problems in order to improve the welfare of coffee farmers. The active role of the government is expected to be able to issue consistent policies to increase the competitiveness of Arabica coffee.

CCTV surveillance is a cultural practice and collective effort. CCTV not only involves a technical assemblage that is used to discipline the surveilled, it is also a social assemblage in which the informal practices of operators play a major role in the multiple interpretations of images. This paper provides insights into the daily work practices and discourses of CCTV operators and their supervisors through observations of and interviews in the control room of public CCTV surveillance in Rotterdam. By providing a better understanding of the role of people in socio-technical assemblages, this paper contributes to the discussion on human mediation in computerized networks. The paper contributes to the expanding literature on surveillance as a cultural practice by combining insights on social sorting with insights on collective evaluation of unfolding situations—i.e., how group dynamics within the control room influence how people are “judged.” Building on Goffman’s frame analysis, the paper reveals the crucial role of talk and humor in re-performing what happens on the streets as well as evaluating situations and the people watched. Moreover, it discusses how these collective re-performances of what is being watched both reproduce and reshape “othering” practices within the control room. The paper shows how humorous utterances play an important part in overcoming hierarchy and collectively managing emotions, and explores how this humor influences profiling on the basis of bodily appearance.
