The investigation of information systems (IS) development usually relies on two different research approaches, namely, quantitative approach and qualitative approach. Both approaches are equally important and useful to the development of IS theories. No research approach should be considered to be superior or inferior to the other. However, the mainstream of Chinese IS research mainly follows the quantitative approach, whereas the qualitative approach is generally viewed as “too soft” or not scientific enough. As a qualitative approach, desk case-study research approach has been widely accepted and applied in a number of IS research in the West. However, in China, this approach is merely considered as an effective approach for teaching, but not valid for scientific research investigations. Thus, Chinese IS research have neglected a number of important experiences, viewpoints and lessons, which can be elicited from IS case-studies occurred in the past. This chapter generally aims at introducing and discussing the desk case-study approach in IS research. Specifically, this chapter discusses this approach through four incremental research stages, namely, defining the research question, establishing theoretical framework from literature review, case-study selection, and theory formulation through case-study analysis. Furthermore, two exemplary research projects are presented in this chapter to further clarify and substantiate the research methods, tools and processes. It is expected that by formulating a rigorous research framework and specifying incremental processes of theory development, this research approach could be accepted and used by Chinese IS scholars in the future.

The spread of radical or terrorist character values has begun to occur in many Islamic educational institutions. This fact must be a concern for Islamic educational institutions, including the MTs Islamic Boarding School (IBS) which is under the auspices of Islamic boarding schools. The IBS-based MTs Al-Qodiri 1 Jember has made efforts to overcome this, one of which is by integrating Sufi values in the subject curriculum. To describe the integration process in the institution, the researchers used a qualitative research approach and the type of case study research. The results of his research indicate that the integration of Sufistic values in subjects at MTs IBS has been carried out well. Sufistic values that have been integrated consist of the values of sincerity, simplicity, ukhuwah Islamiyah, independence and discipline. This integration process is carried out by means of all Sufistic values being internalized in several focus or sub-focus discussions related to other values. The integration of these character values into the subject curriculum is carried out in three aspects, namely into the syllabus, lesson plans and the learning process. This integration model can make it easier for teachers to carry out the process of planting, forming and habituation of Sufi values in the daily lives of students.

This paper discusses the challenges of records management that arise from the use of adapted buildings as records centres in Zimbabwe, despite the advantages of using such buildings. A qualitative research approach was used as well as a case study research design. Data were collected from seven officers of the Gweru Records Centre through semi-structured interviews. Personal observation was used to triangulate findings from interviews. It was found that the use of adapted buildings as records centres was a cheaper and quicker way of establishing records centres throughout the country. However, a number of preservation, security and management challenges cropped up as the conditions of the buildings and the environment of the adapted buildings were not conducive to the proper and professional management of records. This study is important in that it explores the prospects and challenges of using adapted buildings as records centres in Zimbabwe, an area that has not been researched by many authors. This provokes archival authorities and the government to seriously consider establishing purpose-built records and archival centres.

Abstract Background and Purpose: Motivation of this research is to explore the current trend in automating the business processes through software robots (Robotic Process Automation – RPA) and its managing within enterprise environment where most of the processes are executed by human workforce. As the RPA technology expands the demand for its coordinating grows as well. The possible solution to this challenge is shown in case study research in form of implementing orchestration platform to a concrete business process of onboarding in HR department of a multinational company. The aim of this paper is to explore the phases and activities of the pilot project implementation of Robotic Service Orchestration (RSO) in combination with RPA technology and to assess the potential benefits. Design/Methodology/Approach: Case study research approach was selected to explore the research phenomena, which is the implementation of RSO platform in combination with RPA technology and assessing incoming benefits. The case is formed with 2 companies – (1) multinational company with ongoing effort of automating onboarding process, (2) technology and consulting company delivering the automation solution. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with respondents from two involved companies and by analysing internal documents. Results: The analysis of case provided in this paper revealed some key insights: (1) strategical position of RSO and tactical position of RPA towards the existing legacy systems, (2) need for increased focus on initial process modelling phase, (3) Application Programming Interface (API) integration is more viable solution for RPA, (4) the biggest benefit of RPA - its agility, (5) future potential of the RSO replacing the BPMS. Conclusions: First of all, there is a need of higher number of software robots adopted in a company before orchestration could pay off. On the other side, current Business Process Management Systems (BPMS) solutions don’t offer functionalities for managing human and software robots workforce altogether. RPA is expected to expand and without proper orchestration the effectivity will not grow constantly.

In its development, madrasas experienced ups and downs in their development. The most basic problem is the management aspect. The following cases of management are interesting to note. There are schools or madrasas that initially experience setbacks, then can progress rapidly. On the other hand, there are schools or madrassas that initially developed, but then almost went out of business. One of the reasons is due to the management that is not mature enough, therefore personnel management in the world of education is very important especially in educational institutions especially Islamic-based educational institutions. This study aims to determine the application of personnel management in Islamic education institutions and supporting and inhibiting factors in its application. This research is a type of field research with a multi-case study research approach. Data collection methods used Participatory Observation and In-depth interviews. The steps of data analysis in this study use the analysis of the Miles and Huberman models. Pesantren, as an authentic educational institution initiated by Indonesian Muslims, provides parents aneffective alternative to educate their children. For years, pesantren has proven trusted in educating youthand establishing a standard in both general and religious educations. In this study, the researchers willdiscuss factors that motivate parents to entrust pesantren as the institution to educate their children. Thisstudy uses a qualitative descriptive approach. Data collection methods include observation, interviews, andthe results of relevant studies. After analyzing the data, the results indicate that there are two types ofmotives among parents. First is general motivation in placing children in pesantren, namely intrinsicmotivation which covers parents' ideals having a generation with the quality of faith and good moralconduct, forming morals, and building strong physical and mental. The other factor is extrinsic motivation, including intense, integrated, and comprehensive Islamic teaching, positive activities carried outcontinuously for 24 hours, and proper coaching methods. The two factors indicate that parents' motivationto entrust pesantren as an educational institution is relevant to current conditions in which the youngergeneration is prone to moral depravity
