Abstract In addition to the ability to think, students need a thinking disposition to succeed in learning. However, the results of preliminary research indicate that the knowledge of prospective teachers, teachers, and lecturers is still low on thinking dispositions. Therefore, this problem can be solved by conducting a national webinar on dispositions of thinking. Thus, the purpose of this service is to provide participants with an understanding of the philosophical and psychological dispositions of thinking. This service method is in the form of a national webinar, which is a seminar held online. This webinar activity is divided into three stages, namely the material presentation stage, the question and answer stage, and the community service evaluation stage. The results of this community service evaluation show that the percentage of the results of filling out the questionnaire is 81% which means that it is in the very high category. This means that this national webinar activity was very successful in understanding the participants towards a philosophical and psychological review of thinking dispositions. This success is supported by the availability of material, internet signals, and the ability of the presenters to convey the material. Apart from that, there are also inhibiting factors in this seminar activity, namely inadequate material delivery time, signal constraints, and too many presenters.

The results of international comparison studies such as the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) have initiated intense discussions about educational reforms in Germany. Although in-service and pre-service teachers are an essential part of such reforms, little is known about their attitudes towards PISA studies. The present study aims to fill this gap through the investigation of pre-service teachers’ awareness, interest, perception, and attitudes towards PISA. A questionnaire was used to survey a sample of 107 university students who were participating in a teacher education program. The results reveal that 100% of the participants are aware of PISA. Nearly 69% of the participants think that the impact of PISA is rather high or very high, while 41% of them believe that PISA results are reliable. Accordingly, half of the participants seem to be interested in PISA results for their country. The present study discusses these findings in the light of the expected outcomes as proposed in standards for teacher education.

The present study aimed at describing the dispositions of students around a coffee plantation in solving algebraic problems, especially those pertaining to fraction and comparison. Critical thinking disposition denotes the initial milestone to developing students’ critical thinking skills. The study investigated four components of critical thinking dispositions, comprising of truth-seeking, open-mindedness, self-confidence, and inquisitiveness. The subjects under investigation were 45 students at the second grade of a junior high school situated around Garahan coffee plantation in Jember district, East Java, Indonesia. The study covered several phases, inter alia, (1) describing problems on Algebra to the students, (2) recording any activities of the research subjects when doing tasks given, (3) analyzing the students’ answer sheets based on four components of critical thinking dispositions, (4) conducting method triangulation projected to confirm the preliminary findings on the students critical thinking dispositions, and (5) determining the students’ critical thinking dispositions based on the results of direct observation, video recording, and interview. The study gained several findings related to the students’ dispositions. First, the students’ tendency in truth-seeking was characterized by their analysis on the problems given on themes regarding coffee. This prevented them from making mistakes as they checked some information, be it known or unknown, as the bases for problem solving. However, not every student was aware of what was unknown about the problem or what was required to solve the problem. Second, their tendency in open-mindedness was evinced by the fact that they were assured of their answer as they related it to their experience in planting coffee. Nevertheless, some students tended to ask their parent when they had to determine the amount of diameter comparison between two logs to be connected. Third, they tended to be confident in solving problems given as they had experienced the activities described in the problem when they assisted their parents in planting coffee, but still some students had yet to be sure of their answers as they lacked the experience in planting coffee. Lastly, they tended to possess sound inquisitiveness concerning various issues pertinent to solving algebraic problems, especially themed on coffee. They acquired the inquisitiveness by observing the actual activity in their environment. Nonetheless, their inquisitiveness could not be generalized to algebraic lessons at school.

Objective: Familial hypercholesterolaemia is a hereditary disease characterized by very high levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and an elevated risk of early-onset cardiovascular disorders. New drugs provide alternatives for the treatment of patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia. The study aims to explore a practical application of multiple-criteria decision analysis on prioritization of new and emerging technologies for familial hypercholesterolaemia. Methods: The decision model was constructed using the MACBETH method. There were three stages: structuring the problem, measuring the performance of alternatives, and building the model. The weights for alternatives and levels were obtained by indirect comparisons, which evaluated the attractiveness of the performance levels of the criteria using the swing weights technique. Results: The drugs lomitapide, ezetimibe, evolocumab, and mipomersen were selected as alternatives for decision-making. “Cardiovascular Death”, “Stroke” and “Acute Myocardial Infarction” had the three most significant weights. The criteria with the lowest weights were “Comfort” and “LDL-C Reduction”. The top-ranked technology was evolocumab, with an overall score of 59.87, followed by ezetimibe, with a score of 37.21. Conclusion: How to apply the result of a higher score in the actual decisionmaking process still requires further studies. The case in question showed that evolocumab has more performance benefits than other drugs but with a cost approximately 50 times higher
