Image policy is a complex tool consisting of a strategy and a set of tactical measures aimed at improving the competitiveness of a recreation area and creating competitive advantages. Due to the government support and the performance of significant federal projects and social programs in the republic, there is a significant growth of popularity, loyalty and trust in tourism industry and sanatorium and resort services of Crimea in domestic and international markets. The article studies the resources that determine the territorial identity of the recreation area of the Republic of Crimea. The purpose of the study is to clarify the conceptual definitions of the image policy of the recreation region, to identify conditions, factors, objects and events that favorably affect the image of the territory. The hypothesis of the study is the assumption that the analysis of the current positioning of the Republic of Crimea in different areas of image policy will reveal the conditions, factors, objects and events that increase the competitiveness of the recreation territory and create its competitive advantages. The analysis of conditions, factors, objects and events has shown that the image of the territory is created at international, macro and meso levels. The Republic of Crimea, having been a part of the Russian Federation for seven years, has achieved significant results, as evidenced by national and international ratings. The study revealed that the Republic of Crimea, with its rich resource potential, is poorly represented in a number of ratings or is not represented at all in some significant ratings. Despite some positive trends, there is a number of problems that need to be solved immediately such as public utilities reorganization; development of entertainment industry; getting public-private partnership more involved in coastal facilities developing and maintaining. The existence and condition of objects of cultural and historical heritage, monumental parks of landscape and garden architecture, balneological resources and climatic conditions reflect territorial identity and favorably affect the image of the recreation territory.

The concept of sustainable urban development requires re-purposing of buildings and areas in service of local communities. Industrial complexes which are no longer used for their original purpose are often left to degrade, simply because their demolition requires large investments. In such circumstances, creative sector initiatives were proved to be of multiple importance. They do not require too much of financial investment and do provide authentic solutions for the given problem. Innovation in that domain significantly contributes to the tourism industry, in particular to some forms of selective tourism and to outbound markets whose demands are increasingly difficult to be satisfied by mass tourism products. Among examples from practice, the case of "Ciglana" in Karaburma (Brick factory) in Belgrade stands distinguished, as a place where the festival "Dev9t" dedicated to creativity has been organized. This area contains the memory of various layers and stages of Belgrade's industrialization and it is not under institutional protection. In this paper, the process of its adaptive reuse was discussed, as well as new meanings assigned to it by the festival activities.

But it opens a unique window of opportunities for Ukraine to become a world-famous religious destination. The WTTC drew attention to this, urging public and private sector leaders to work together to pave the way for the economic recovery, needed for the travel and tourist industry and create millions of jobs.

Purpose Iran is a country with substantial tourism potential. Iran’s tourism industry, however, was side-lined for decades due to international sanctions. The election of President Hassan Rouhani and the subsequent deal on Iran’s nuclear programme (reached on 14 July 2015) has resulted in softening of nuclear-related international sanctions and brought much needed relief to a struggling tourism industry in Iran. The purpose of this paper is to focus on the emergence of cruise tourism—as an attractive option for both domestic and international markets—with the introduction of the Iran’s first cruise ship, named “Sunny”, since the 1979 revolution. Design/methodology/approach This study is a short viewpoint piece based on the author’s interpretation of cruise tourism development in Iran and its future opportunities and challenges. Findings Following the nuclear deal, Iran has seen a substantial growth in inbound tourist numbers and attracted considerable investment in tourism-related infrastructure such as air transport and the hospitality sector. While cruise tourism is and remains an emerging phenomenon in Iran, it is evident that the country has a vested interest in developing this lucrative sector due to the country’s strong domestic market and potential to serve the international market. Originality/value This is an original topic which has never been investigated before. Cruise tourism is an emerging market in Iran and this study sheds new light on this new development. The paper focuses on the historical, current and future development of the tourism industry in Iran with a specific emphasis on cruise tourism.
