Antioxidants are substances counteracting the effects of free radicals. Antioxidants are formed in several forms, encompassing vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals. Genjer or yellow velvet leaves (Limnocharis Flava) is an aquatic plant potentially beneficial alternative to natural antioxidants. This study aims to measure the antioxidant effect from the yellow velvetleaf ethanol extract on malondialdehyde (MDA) activities in livers of diabetic rats (Rattus novergicus) induced by alloxan in three different doses. The tested animals were randomly divided into five groups comprising six white rats previously induced with alloxan by intra-peritoneal injection. Group 1 was the negative control provided 0.5% CMC Na while group 2 was a positive control administered 0.45 mg glibenclamide. On the other hand, groups 3, 4, and 5 were the experimental groups that provided the extract of yellow velvetleaf as many as 32.5 mg/kg body weight (BW) ethanol, 65 mg/kg BW ethanol extract, and 130 mg/kg BW, respectively. Furthermore, the extracts were administered once on the 7th, 14th, and 21st days; the parameters observed were MDA activities in the rats’ livers. The Thiobarbituric Acid Reactive Substances (TBARs) method was then employed to investigate these actions. The one-way ANOVA was administered to examine the acquired data from the examination, followed by a post hoc test. The average points of the MDA level from group 1 to group 5 were 10.78 0.33, 3.71 + 0.19, 7.25 + 0.26, 5.76 + 0.25, and 4.01 + 0.22, correspondingly, according to the results. The one-way ANOVA test revealed that MDA levels in each test group were significantly different (p 0.05). Based on these findings, it may be concluded that feeding ethanol extract from yellow velvet leaves to diabetic rats reduces MDA levels in their livers, therefore preserving cells from harm.

One of the natural ingredients that to be used to inhibit bacterial growth is the Zingiber officinale. In Indonesia, there are 3 types of ginger which are distinguished by morphology, namely ‘emprit ginger (Zingiber officinale var. Amarum), ‘ gajah’ ginger (Zingiber officinale var. Officinarum), and red ginger (Zingiber officinale var. Rubrum). This research was conducted to determine the activity of extracts and fractions of three ginger varieties in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus using the disc diffusion method. The test group consisted of ethanol extract, n-hexane fraction, and ethyl acetate fraction from 3 ginger varieties, concentrations of 5, 10, 20% w / v, gentamicin 10 μg (positive control) and 10% DMSO (negative control). The test results showed that ethanol extracts and fractions from the rhizomes of three varieties of ginger have the ability to inhibit S. aureus at concentrations of 5, 10, and 20% w / v, increasing the concentration will increase the diameter of the inhibition zone. At a concentration of 20% of all samples, the one with the greatest resistance was the n-hexane fraction (diameter of inhibitory zone of emprit ginger 9.80 mm, elephant ginger 9.78 mm, and red ginger 9.90 mm). The difference in ginger variety only affects the antibacterial activity of the ethanol extract, but not the n-hexane and ethyl acetate fractions.

Abstract This study aimed to identify the effectiveness of SNEDDS of Pegagan Leaf Ethanol Extract (PLE) to reduce fasting blood glucose (FBG) levels in zebrafish. Centella asiatica (L.) Urb. or pegagan is among the medicinal plants widely used to treat diabetes in Indonesia. Maceration was employed with 70% ethanol to obtain a viscous extract for the formulation of SNEDDS with Capryol 90, Tween 80, and PEG 400 (1:6:3). Antihyperglycemic testing was conducted on five groups, consisting of normal, positive control, negative control, P I treatment, and P II treatment. On Day 1, all except the normal group was induced with 300 mg alloxan and soaked in 2% glucose solution for 7 days. On day 8, the treatment consisted of 25 mg/2 L metformin for the positive control, 100 mg/2 L SNEDDS for P I, 200 mg/2 L SNEDDS for P II, and no treatment for the negative control. The SNEDDS characterization obtained 100.6 ± 3.12 nm particle size and −7.93 ± 0.66 mV zeta potential, indicating that the SNEDDS had fulfilled the requirements of good preparation. The antidiabetic activity test found a 69.90% decline in FBG levels in 100 mg/2 L SNEDDS and 72.20% in 200 mg/2 L SNEDDS.
