In the studies described in the article, the presence of antimicrobial activity in photosensitizers in experiments on bacterial cultures was confirmed. In the experiments, photosensitizers of the second generation were used: «Photoditazine», the active substance of which is dimeglumin chloride E6, and «Dimegin», which includes a derivative of protoporphyrin IX-2,4-di(1-methoxyethyl)- deuteroporphyrin IX disodium salt. In the described research work, the minimum concentrations of the studied drugs were determined by the method of sequential tenfold dilutions to obtain a bactericidal effect on strains of sanitary-indicative microorganisms Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella enteritidis.

ABSTRACT The effects of high-intensity pulsed-light emissions of high or low UV content on the survival of predetermined populations ofListeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli,Salmonella enteritidis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa,Bacillus cereus, and Staphylococcus aureus were investigated. Bacterial cultures were seeded separately on the surface of tryptone soya-yeast extract agar and were reduced by up to 2 or 6 log10 orders with 200 light pulses (pulse duration, ∼100 ns) of low or high UV content, respectively (P < 0.001).

ABSTRACT The antimicrobial activity of human β-defensin 3 (hBD-3) against multidrug-resistant clinical isolates of Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecium, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, and Acinetobacter baumannii was evaluated. A fast bactericidal effect (within 20 min) against all bacterial strains tested was observed. The presence of 20% human serum abolished the bactericidal activity of hBD-3 against gram-negative strains and reduced the activity of the peptide against gram-positive strains.

The aim of the present research work to investigate antimicrobial activity of some honey samples six winter honeys six summer honeys collected from different regions of Western Ghats. The microbes used in this study are Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Proteus mirabilis. Antibacterial activity of the honeys was assayed using the Disc diffusion method. Noticeable variations in the antibacterial activity of the different honey samples were observed. Among the microbes Staphylococcus aureus is the most sensitive against all honey samples shows the maximum inhibitor zone compare to summer honeys.

Recently, among hospital strains of microorganisms, an increase in the number of antiseptic-resistant strains of opportunistic pathogens has been registered, which significantly affects the effectiveness of these drugs. It is important to study their antimicrobial efficacy to justify rational use. The aim is to conduct a comparative study of the antimicrobial efficacy of antiseptics of decamethoxine, chlorhexidine, polyhexanide. During study we examined the antimicrobial activity against 186 clinical strains of microorganisms (Acinetobacter baumannii, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterococcus spp., Enterobacter spp.) isolated from patients with infectious complications in the postoperative period. The minimum inhibitory (MIC) and bactericidal concentrations (MBC) of 0.02 % and 0.1 % decamethoxine, 0.05 % chlorhexidine bigluconate, 0.1 % polyhexanide were determined; antimicrobial efficacy of drugs was evaluated by the index of antiseptic activity by conventional methods. The study found high antimicrobial properties of decamethoxine, chlorhexidine, which had a high bactericidal effect on clinical strains of S. aureus, Enterococcus spp., Enterobacter spp. Proved the benefits of antimicrobial activity of the drug based on decamethoxine (p<0.001). The polyhexanide has pronounced antimicrobial properties against A. baumannii, bacteria of the family Enterobactericae, P. aeruginosa. Thus, the leading gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus, enterococci) and gram-negative pathogens (enterobacteria, acinetobacteria, pseudomonads) are sensitive to polyhexanide, chlorhexidine and the domestic drug decamethoxin, with a probable advantage of the antimicrobial properties of the latter over all gram-positive and most gram-negative microorganisms.

This research work aimed at investigating some phytochemical constituents present in aloe vera based antiseptic soap and its activity against some selected microorganisms. The soap was produced using hot process and the antimicrobial activity was performed against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia Coli and Candida albicans using the method of agar well diffusion. The produced soap exhibited highest zone of inhibition on Staphylococcus aureus with 8.6 mm, 10.1 mm, 13.8 mm and 15.1 mm at 25 mg/mL, 50 mg/mL, 100 mg/mL and 200 mg/mL respectively, no inhibition was observed on E. Coli while the C. albicans was slightly inhibited by the soap by 7.6 mm, 9.0 mm, 13.2 mm at 50 mg/mL, 100 mg/mL, 200mg/mL respectively. The phytochemical screening conducted confirmed the presence of tannins, saponins, reducing sugar and flavonoid in the plant extract. The results of the investigations clearly indicated that aloe vera based soap had possessed antimicrobial activity against the tested microorganisms due to the presence of the confirmned phytoconstituents. Likewise pH, formability, and antimicrobial activity of the produced soap were comparable with the commercial soap.

Propolis antimicrobial activity has been limitedly studied in food, particularly in dairy products. We studied the antimicrobial activity of an alcoholic extract of an Italian propolis in sterile skim milk, pasteurized cow’s milk, and cow’s and goat’s whey cheese (ricotta). Following the determination of the minimal inhibitory concentration on Gram+ and Gram- bacteria, the extract was employed at 2 and 5% (P2, P5), using controls with the same ethanol concentrations (E2, E5) and without any addition. In milk trials, Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, and Pseudomonas fluorescens were tested. P2 and P5 samples registered significant decreases of Gram+ bacteria in skim milk. The same was true for P5 in cows’ milk, but only with S. aureus for P2. Ricotta was inoculated with L. monocytogenes, S. aureus and B. cereus and stored at 8.5°C. In cow’s milk ricotta, L. monocytogenes counts in P5 were always lower than control during the storage time, significantly so from the 14th day. In goat’s ricotta, L. monocytogenes counts in P5 were at least one logarithm lower than E5, whereas the extract didn’t show a significant effect on S. aureus and B. cereus. The antimicrobial activity of propolis, particularly on L. monocytogenes, could be employed in ready-to-eat refrigerated dairy products.

revious studies have shown that Punicagranatum (P. granatum) extract exhibited antimicrobial activity against a wide range of pathogenic microorganisms. Thus, the aim of study was to formulate and determine the effectiveness of antimicrobial properties of gel containing P. granatummethanol extract against selected common skin pathogens including Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcusepidermidis, Pseudomonas aeruginosaand Candidaalbicans.
