Evaluating the Competitiveness of the Vietnam Textile and Garment Industry

In the context of the country's increasingly innovative and deeply integrated with the world, especially since Vietnam joined the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 1995, our country has been competing increasingly fierce in all fields and all economic sectors, including the textile industry. Up to now, the position of these two industries has been increasingly affirmed in the world consumption market. Currently, garment and leather products are present in many countries around the world with increasing export turnover and in which large enterprises play an important role. However, in order to maintain our position and improve our competitiveness, we need to re-evaluate the competitive advantages as well as the limitations of enterprises and Vietnam's textile and garment industry. This paper uses the diamond model method to show the competitiveness ability of Vinatex enterprises through 4 main factors: Firm strategy, structure and rivalry, factor conditions, demand conditions, related and supporting industries. From there, we come up with solutions that contribute to solving the difficulties, paving the way for the further development of these two industries. Keywords: Competitiveness, Diamond model, Garment & Textile, Vinatex, Vietnam

This paper tries to find out why shadow banking system has become so competitive in the global financial system and how it can be controlled. For this reason we use Porter’s diamond model to find the competitive advantages of shadow banking. Based on the results of this study it can be concluded that factor conditions, chance and government do not contribute to the competitiveness of shadow banking industry. On the other hand the results suggested that related and supporting industries, firm strategy, structure and rivalry, and demand conditions contribute to the competitiveness of shadow banking industry. It is important to regulate the activities of shadow banking industry in order to prevent this industry from creating systemic risk.

India has the largest acreage under cotton in the world but yield is poor (308kg per hector). The country has a well developed textile industry of cotton as well as synthetic fibres/yarn supported by silk, wool and jute. The Textile Industry in India (including the garment industry) is contributed 6 percent of the gross domestic product and 18 percent of the total foreign exchange earnings of the country. Indian textile industry can be broadly classified into the organised sector comprising mechanized spinning and composite mills and the unorganized sector comprising power looms and handlooms. The garment industry alone provides employment to more than 4 million workers and supports the people working in ancillary units.

The article examines some of the world’s economic realities in the context of a pandemic. It is noted that the world will experience the economic consequences of the pandemic for several more years. Well-established supply chains have been disrupted, some cranes have fallen into deep recessions, and the recovery of some of the world’s leading economic sectors is still in doubt. No one could have imagined that such a large industry as the oil industry, in the literal sense, will go into negative territory, and the air carriers will remain practically out of work. However, this took place in real life and was reflected in economic history. Therefore, in order to overcome these negative trends in the future, it is necessary to learn from the mistakes of today, this will make it possible to prevent the shutdown of economically important industries in the future and allow the economy to develop, even if not at a high pace, but still within the framework of a certain progressive development. The purpose of the work is to analyze some of the economic events that took place during the pandemic in order to identify the causes of their occurrence and further development trends.

In the world today, energy efficiency plays a key role in economic development of the countries. Over the period of 2013-2017 the energy intensity of economic entities in Ukraine decreased by 64.9 % or 0.0174 kgoe/UAH. However, its level is one of the highest in the world. The objective of this article is to reveal the main factors, which affect this tendency. In order to do this the decomposition analysis is used through the application of the Logarithmic Mean Divisia Index (LMDI-I) method. This paper uses both additive and multiplicative models to identify the impact degree, which the structure and energy intensity of economic sectors (namely industry, transport, service sector, agriculture and others) have on the overall energy intensity of economic entities. The results indicate that in the period under review the sectoral energy intensity factor has the greatest influence on the total energy intensity, whereas the impact of the economic structure is insignificant.

THE EEC TEXTILE AND CLOTHING INDUSTRIES, THE NEW COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES - In spite of using new technologies, the textile and clothing industries remain intensive in workforce and thus sensitive to wage costs. The European firms must therefore find other competitive advantages based on product differentiation, quality and design. German and Italian T&C industries are good examples of how quality and design can help "mature" industries maintain a successful place in the world market. Nevertheless, the cost of production remains a problem. The use of the outwear processing traffic (OPT) allows the European textile industry to mantain the quality patterns of its products, profiting from cheap workforce. This more advantageous situation is due both to innovation and to low production costs.
