In this chapter, we present a specific approach on how to teach math through mathematical modeling and simulation. The literature review is presented from the Math Education Community and the advantages for the students using this approach focuses on how to apply Math in their professional lives. We also introduce a framework of reference on using matching technology to help the students make some transitions in the modeling cycle. Several examples from a course in an undergraduate program are shown and we develop some conclusions for basic education and for high school level. Previous research studies developed from a qualitative point of view have helped to demonstrate the potential use of this approach for students to achieve better understanding of this science.

Abstract: Implementation of minimum  service standards of basic education (SPM Dikdas) policy of junior high school level in Purbalingga has ups and downs in its development, sometimes up sometimes down, so it is interesting to examine how the implementation process is run. For that, the case study technique was taken in two junior high schools, they are SMP N 6 Satu Atap Rembang Purbalingga and SMP N 3 Purbalingga. The purpose of this research is to analyze the extent of the process of implementation SPM Dikdas policy in SMP N 6 Satu Atap Rembang Purbalingga and SMP N 3 Purbalingga. This research use is Qualitative Descriptive method with purposive sampling technique. The results of this study indicate that the implementation process of SPM Dikdas in SMP N 6 Satu Atap Rembang has not run well because it is still lack of manpower in the Administration Section in SMP N 6 one Roof Rembang while while in SMP N 3 Purbalingga has been run quite well run by the actors. The purpose of the SPM Dikdas Implementation Program is Sufficiently clear, but sometimes the objectives are not achieved maximally because the planned activities that are made still seem less bold because hampered by the tight rules and availability of funding sources. The development of MSS program in SMP level is quite good, but still less quickly because it is hindered by human resources that still do not meet the criteria of SPM Dikdas indicator. The other parties have participated well enough but there needs to be better coordination between the parties so that there is a better communication relationship to accelerate the process of program implementation and the uncontrollable factors experienced by the implementors are funding factors and natural factors which also includes the factors that greatly affect the process of implementation of SPM Dikdas. Keywords:  Policy of SPM Dikdas, Implementation Process  Abstrak: Implementasi Kebijakan Standar Pelayanan Minimal Pendidikan Dasar (SPM Dikdas) Tingkat Sekolah Menengah Pertama di Kabupaten Purbalingga mengalami pasang surut dalam perkembangannya, kadang naik kadang turun, sehingga menarik untuk diteliti seperti apa proses implementasi dijalankan.

The goal of this proposal is to teach the basic aspects of light from the point of view of quantum mechanics at high school level. To this end, we have adapted Feynman´s Path Integral Method of Quantum Mechanics. This is a continuation of previous works where we considered the quantum behaviour of matter. The situations were to promote the conceptualization of the electron as a quantum system, the probabilistic function and the transition quantum–classic. Now, the goal is to build a new proposal to teach the behaviour of the light from an actual vision and from a unified model: the quantum mechanics, from the reconstruction of a reference that also uses the approach Path Integrals of Richard Feynman. It is adapted for secondary school students using vectors and sums, and it is inserted in a problems context about the light. Careful and accurate language is used, avoiding terms like photon or expressions like particles of light or wave-particle duality, because these ideas could present obstacles to understanding key aspects of quantum theory. This proposal is an alternative to avoid historical approaches commonly used so far and it is being implemented in two groups of students in secondary school (15-16 years old). Key words: Feynman method, light, quantum mechanics, secondary school, teaching.

The newly published English textbooks for Iranian students have been developed and distributed by the ministry of education of the Islamic Republic of Iran since 2012 and in this article, the researchers intend to represent the findings of a textbook evaluation over the series. This newly introduced series titled “Prospect” includes three consecutive textbooks Prospect 1 to 3 designed for grades 7th to 9th of junior high school. This series is a critical turning point from various content and methodological aspects mostly due to a paradigm shift from GTM to communicative approach. The main aim of this paper is to evaluate the English Textbook "Prospect” series from teachers’ point of view and represent experts' recommendations to help the material developers in improving the series. The data of this research is gathered from English teachers working in junior high school level and the population of the research included male and female teachers teaching in capital city of Tehran. The researchers developed a questioner and distributed it among a sample of 100 English teachers (50 male and 50 female teachers). The findings of the research showed that “Prospect” series is evaluated very poor in field of shape and printing quality. Teachers believed that the main pitfall of the books is lacking high quality illustrations which foster students learning. Although many teachers and practitioners participating in the research have found the new series a considerable step forward, it seems that the series faces some serious shortcomings.

Perception of high school managers in Fortaleza on the importance of physical education as curriculum component.BACKGROUND: The Basic Education in Brazil has been through hard moments during 2010 decade. Among these moments, can be put in the spotlight the advance from the MP n° 746/2016 into 13.415/2017 Law and the institutionalization of the New High School level in Brazil. Through this new law, the Physical Education could be excluded from the group of essencial disciplines in the Basic Education. Due to this, many struggling movements took place in order to maintain the Physical Education as an essencial discipline in Basic Education. OBJECTIVE: The research investigated the perception of managers of high schools, belonging to the public network of the state of Ceará, Brazil, on the importance of PE classes. METHODS: The study is characterized as a field and exploratory research, with a quantitative and qualitative cross-sectional character, with the application of a Likert-type questionnaire, with multiple choice items about each question, varying the options between “total disagree”, “Partially disagree”, “partially agree” and “totally agree”. Managers of regular and professional schools participated in the study. Thus, the sample of the present study was composed of 40 regular and full-time school managers from a total of 119 schools, making up 33% of the schools listed as public for the current study. Data collection took place between the years 2018 and 2019. RESULTS: The managers consider the PE important in contribution to the student´s integral formation (92,5%), the workload should be increased (62,5%) and that the discipline contributes to an increase in the amount of the student´s physical activity practice. CONCLUSION: Based on the perception of managers of state schools in the city of Fortaleza-CE, the Physical Education curricular component is important for the formation of students. As well, they consider that the workload of the discipline could be increased due to the important influence of the discipline on the practice of physical activity.

This series can be used to supplement most general-mathematics textbooks. The teaching of general mathematics at the senior high school level can be difficult for a variety of reasons. Difficulties include the wide range of computational ability of the students, poor attendance, lack of relevancy from the student's point of view, the lack of good instructional material that meets the wide range of ability, and the lack of adequate visual aids that can be used on an individual basis.

Tertiary institutions in South Africa are experiencing alarming undergraduate drop-out rates. This has partly been attributed to students’ inadequate preparation, and failure to gather information on, and planning for, their careers. The need for sound career guidance at the high school level is key, making the role of Life Orientation (LO) increasingly prominent. The aim of this study was to determine what benefits high school learners derive from attending career talks. To this end, a qualitative study was conducted with Grade 10 learners studying STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) at a township high school in Mamelodi, Tshwane. Data were collected using a qualitative questionnaire and analysed thematically. The findings demonstrated the importance of role models sharing information on their careers and work experiences. Another finding pertained to the importance of information on diverse careers, for the development of learners’ career self-efficacy as students of STEM in a township high school context. The findings highlight the importance of LO teachers organising career workshops. The study will benefit the Department of Basic Education, businesses, and employers as key stakeholders, by helping to enhance the career development of future employees and entrepreneurs.
