Fractions are among some concepts in mathematics that pupils in Nigeria primary find difficult to learn, and teachers find difficult to teach. These problems require solutions because mathematics knowledge is germane for technological advancement and national development. Pupils need to be actively involved in constructing their knowledge and digital mathematics learning games could be helpful. Thus, this study investigated the effects of digital mathematics games on primary pupils' achievement in fractions concepts. An appropriately validated pupil fractions achievement test (PFAT) was used to collect data for the study. Data collected were analyzed using t-test. It was revealed that pupils exposed to digital mathematics games performed significantly better than those exposed to conventional method. There is significant difference between achievements of male and female pupils exposed to game-based strategy.

Mathematics is a difficult subject and even becomes a phobia, more due to teaching conventionally  in where the teaching and learning process emphasizes more on teacher, working on problems, memorization and speed of arithmetic, so students lack understanding of what they are learning, which in this case does not have an understanding of the concepts taught. Students tends to be lazy and have low motivation to study mathematics both classically and to study independently at home. The growth of information and communication technology in society is reflected in policies to encourage the use of ICT in education and the development of educational multimedia. Multimedia includes using text, images, animation, video and audio to prepare courses for students in various levels of education. Attendance of multimedia technology can help students learn to be more interesting and help students understanding in learning. The purpose of the study was to know whether there was any significant difference in the result between the students of class IV Manyaran 01 Elementary School towards increasing their understanding in math who taught by using the interactive multimedia and who taught by conventionally. The result of the study showed that the interactive multimedia gave an effect to the improvement of the students’ understanding in mathematics.

The study examined the level of Perceived Usefulness (PU) and Perceived Ease of Use (PEOU) of social media within the framework of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) in order to ascertain the usefulness of social media among Pre-service Teachers in Ghana. Stratified random sampling was used to select 391 Pre-service Teachers for the study. Data was collected using a questionnaire and analysed based on descriptive statistics and an Independent sample t-test. This study found that majority of the Pre-service Teachers use two social media platforms; WhatsApp and Facebook. The study further established a significant difference between Pre-service Teachers whose usage of social media sites specifically affect their perceived usefulness and those that specifically affect their perceived ease of use. The study encouraged teachers to integrate e-learning applications like Blackboard, Google Classroom and Edmodo in their courses (using the blended learning approach) as they have social media-like features that students have already embraced. This study contributed to research on the possibility of integrating social media into teaching and learning in Colleges of Education in Ghana.

Over the years, perennial problem of classroom congestion, poverty level and low classroom utilization rates in Nigeria worsen the teaching and learning of Mathematics. This paper investigates the student-teacher ratio as yardstick for students’ performance in Mathematics in Junior Secondary School Certificate Examination (JSSCE). The enrolment of students, the numbers of teachers, together with students’ performances in Mathematics were sampled from four schools for a period of four years. Two of the schools have an average student-teacher ratio of (50:1), with performance average of (33% - 45%) and standard deviation (11.21); while the other two have average student-teacher ratio of (18:1) with performance average of (60% - 77%) and standard deviation of (8.43). Some statistical tools like standard deviation and T-test were used to test the Null hypothesis. At significant level (0.05) and degree of freedom (14), the t-value was 0.0000517, while the p-value was 0.999922. The results of the findings show that there was significant difference in student-teacher ratio and their performance in Mathematics, and invariably, may be among the factors that account for the credible performance accounted for in the private secondary schools as against their public counterpart. The result suggested that more teachers should be hired in order to decrease the number of students per teacher so that students’ achievement can be enhanced and hence, brings about National Development.

This article offers a retrospective analysis of mathematics teachers’ experiences as learners in school to examine their foregrounds. Based on Skovsmose’s notion, foregrounds are perceptions of possibilities, impossibilities, hope and despair made by an individual whose life chances are compromised by socio-political adversities and economic deprivation. Since foregrounds are imagined it is not possible to be certain about how the future is realised without engaging in a longitudinal study spanning decades. One way to attempt to do so is through memory work, that is, by excavating the memories of persons who are already living in their foreground. Three mathematics teachers were recruited through snowball sampling to share their memories of teachers of mathematics, learning mathematics in schools and how they envisioned the future. The analysis revealed how exposure to mathematics teaching and learning when they were learners is implicated in shaping the foregrounds of teachers, and the ways in which teacher foregrounds are connected to personal and national development. The participants’ narratives confirmed that, although a foreground is shaped by prevailing conditions, a view to a viable future requires an optimism that goes beyond present situations.
