This paper investigated the forming defects causation and related resolving measures by combining numerical method with experimental technique. A practical case of one auto-body panel stamped parts with forming defects was studied in detail. A new approach determining the causation of forming defects and finding out resolving ways was proposed. Firstly, uses numerical method to analyze the characteristics of the whole forming process by dividing the forming process into virtual steps, so as to obtain the forming feature such as stress & strain distribution during the stamping process. Secondly, uses experimental grid method to measure the real plastic strain distribution of the defective area thus to analyze the forming rule of this area. By synthesizing both methods and carrying out extensive analysis, it is possible to make sure the cause of the defects and put out solving scheme further. The study shows that numerical combined with experimental method is an effective way in analyzing and resolving forming defects for auto-body parts.

This document explains and demonstrates an experimental method to determine principal plastic strains in industrially stamped sheet panels. The principal strains distribution after a given stamping process can be obtained using computer aided grid experimental method. In contrast with FLD (Forming Limit Diagram) obtained by the material testing, the measured results of strain distribution can be used to determine the sheet metal’s formability allowing to determine at which point the sheet metal cracks or uneven stretch occurs and other forming defects. The main principle and related theory of this approach are discussed. One automobile panel stamped part as a practical case was studied, the strain distribution of the part after a given stamping process was measured and calculated, a demonstration of how to deal with the results in comparison with FLD to determine and solve forming problems is analyzed.

AbstractThe radial infeed rotary swaging is widely used as a diameter reduction forming process of axisymmetric workpieces, improving the mechanical properties with excellent near net shape forming. In the present study, rotary swaging experiments with different parameter setups were performed on steel tubes and bars under different material states and several resulting property modifications were investigated such as stress-strain curve, hardness, fatigue strength and surface residual stresses. The results show a significant work hardening induced by the rotary swaging process and an improvement in the static and dynamic mechanical properties was observed. Furthermore, the hardness distribution was homogenous in the cross section of the rotary swaged workpieces. Moreover, depending on the process conditions, different residual stresses distribution were generated along the surface.

Motorbike shock absorbers made with a closed die employ a tube-forming process that is more sensitive than that of a solid billet, because the tube is usually too thin-walled to conserve material. During tube forming, defects such as folding and cracking occur due to unstable tube forming and abnormal material flow. It is therefore essential to understand the relationship between the appearance of defects and the number of forming steps to optimize technological parameters. Based on both finite element method (FEM) simulations and microstructural observations, we demonstrate the important role of the number and methodology of the forming steps on the material flow, defects, and metal fiber anisotropy of motorbike shock absorbers formed from a thin-walled tube. We find limits of the thickness and height ratios of the tube that must be held in order to avoid defects. Our study provides an important guide to workpiece and processing design that can improve the forming quality of products using tube forming.

AbstractIn this study, in order to obtain the maximum possible formability in tailor-welded blank AA6061 sheets connected by the friction stir welding (FSW) procedure, the incremental sheet forming process has been utilized. The results are presented both numerically and experimentally. To obtain the forming limit angle, the base and FSWed sheets were formed in different angles with conical geometry, and ultimately, the forming limit angle for the base metal and FSWed sheet is estimated to be 60° and 57.5°, respectively. To explore the effects of welding and forming procedures on AA6061 sheets, experimental studies such as mechanical properties, microstructure and fracture analysis are carried out on the samples. Also, the thickness distribution of the samples is studied to investigate the effect of the welding process on the thickness distribution. Then, the numerical process was simulated by the ABAQUS commercial software to study the causes of the FSWed samples failure through analyzing the thickness distribution parameter, and major and minor strains and the strain distribution. Causes of failure in FSWed samples include increased minor strain, strain distribution and thickness distribution in welded areas, especially in the proximity of the base metal area.

A new stretch-forming process based on discretely loading for three-dimensional sheet metal part is proposed and numerically investigated. The gripping jaw in traditional stretch-forming process is replaced by the discrete array of loading units, and the stretching load is applied at discrete points on the two ends of sheet metal. By controlling the loading trajectory at the each discrete point, an optimal stretch-forming process can be realized. The numerical results on the new stretch-forming process of a saddle-shaped sheet metal part show that the distribution of the deformation on the formed surface of new process is more uniform than that of traditional stretch-forming, and the forming defects can be avoided and better forming quality will be obtained.

In the theory of nonlinear oscillations, in order to identify the resonance curve we usually try to eliminate the diphase Ѳ in the equations of stationary oscillations. We obtain thus a certain frequency-amplitude relationship. In simple cases when the mentioned equations contain only and linearly the first harmonics (sin Ѳ, cos Ѳ) the elimination of Ѳ is elementary, by using the trigono-metrical identity sin2 Ѳ+ cos2 Ѳ = 1. In general, high harmonics (sin2 Ѳ, cos2 Ѳ, etc.) are present. Consequently the expressions of sin Ѳ, cos Ѳ are cumbersome or do not exist and the analytical elimination of Ѳ is quite inconvenient or impossible. For this reason, to identify the resonance curve of complicated systems, we use the numerical method. Below, intending to develop the analytical method, we shall propose a procedure enabling us to transform the "original" complicated equations of stationary oscillations into the so-called associated ones, only and linearly containing sin Ѳ, cos Ѳ. The equivalence of the original and associated equations will be treated and the associated resonance 'curve-that is determined by the associated equations-will be analyzed The discussion will be restricted to a simple practical case in which, beside sin Ѳ and cos Ѳ, only sin2 Ѳ and cos2 Ѳ are present. Nevertheless, the method proposed and the results obtained can be generalized.

The title of this research is “Formation and Meaning of Compound Words from Onomatopoeia and Human Body Parts in Japanese on Social Media Twitter”. This research focuses on the forming process and meaning of compound words from onomatopoeia and human body parts in Japanese on social media twitter. This research was analysed by using formal and informal method. Compound words formation analysis used word formation theory from Kageyama and Kishimoto (2016) and the meaning of compound words analysis used semantic theory from Chaer (2012) and characteristic of Japanese onomatopoeia from Akimoto (2002). The result of this research is on the 25 data was analyzed, there are 14 data formed from the composition process and 11 data formed from the composition process followed by the shortening process of the words and part of speech classification in all data has changed. For the meaning, 22 data have grammatical meaning and 3 data have lexical meaning and all data have derivative meaning from the basic onomatopoeia.

To improve the effect of multi-point stretch forming of sheet metal, it is proposed in this paper to replace a fixed ball head with a swinging ball head. According to the multi-point dies with different arrangements, this research establishes finite element models of the following stretch forming, i.e., fixed ball heads with conventional arrangement, swinging ball heads with conventional arrangement, swinging ball heads with declining staggered arrangement, and swinging ball heads with parallel staggered arrangement, and then numerical simulation is performed. The simulation results show that by replacing a fixed ball head with a swinging ball head, the surface indentation of the part formed was effectively suppressed, the stress and tension strain distribution of the part formed was improved, and the forming quality was improved; the thickness of the elastic pad was reduced, the springback was reduced and the forming accuracy was improved; and when the ball head was applied to a multi-point die with staggered arrangement, a better forming result was achieved, where the best forming result was achieved in combining the swinging ball heads with the multi-point die with a parallel staggered arrangement. Forming experiments were carried out, and the experimental results were consistent with the trend of numerical simulation results, which verified the correctness of the numerical simulation.
