Since very little is known about how to deal with conflicting and ambiguous information as a work attribute an attempt was made to define this particular construct and subject it to empirical research. An instrument (the in basket exercise) was developed to measure employees' efficiency in dealing with conflicting and ambiguous information. This instrument together with instruments for measuring a number of related traits were administered to 468 subjects. It was determined that the capacity to deal with conflicting and ambiguous information has a certain relationship with intelligence and sensory cognitive judgement. No relationship could be found with certain personality traits. In all probability a separate construct is indicated by this research.OpsommingMin informasie bestaan omtrent die hantering van teenstrydige en dubbelsinnige inligting as kritieke vermoë in vele werksituasies. Met hierdie ondersoek is daar gepoog om die konstruk te omlyn en aan 'n empiriese verifiering te onderwerp. ‘n Meetinstrument (posmandjie) is ontwikkel om die hantering van teenstrydige en dubbelsinnige inligting te meet en is saam met ander meetinstrumente ter omlyning van die genoemde konstruk aan twee groepe proefpersone geadministreer. Daar is vasgestel dat hierdie vermoë verband hou met intellektuele vermoëns en sensories kognitiewe oordeel en nie met sekere persoonlikheids- en ander determinante van mens like gedrag nie en dat dit na alle waarskynlikheid dui op die bestaan van 'n afsonderlike werksvermoë of konstruk.

Abstract Based both on a historical approach regarding the evolution of the environmental education between 1960 and present days, and on empirical research as well, the author proves that the efficiency of the environmental education could be much higher if included within the broader sphere of moral and civic education and if it is driven by a more extensive ideal sprung from the fundamental human right to a clean and well preserved environment, by the contemporary moral and civil values. The author pleads and motivates for an increased capitalization of the humanities and social sciences, of art, of environmental ethics and aesthetics in shaping “the ecological personality” of the tomorrow people. When shaping these personality traits through environmental education activities, one must emphasize the importance of practice and applied actions aimed to protect the environment, and in general, the practice of civic-moral education methods.

There is a limited understanding what the constituent elements of the ethical leadership are. Although various researchers defined ethical leadership as a specific leadership style, with typical personality traits and behaviors, the precise instantiation of the content of ethical leadership was only seldom investigated. The body of empirical research on ethical leadership is only slowly beginning to build up. Furthermore, the ethical leadership in Central and Eastern European countries (CEE countries) is permanently an under-researched issue. This article focuses on the interdisciplinary perspective in regard to the empirical research of ethical traits and behaviors of leaders and the level of preference of respective leadership attributes. First, selected influential theoretical considerations of the issue of ethical leadership are being discussed. In the application part of this article, particular ethical leadership personality traits and behaviors are being identified through the qualitative-quantitative research lens. Next, four ethical leadership styles within the cluster of five CEE countries, namely Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia are specified. Cross-country variations are a matter of concern, too. In the Slovak – CEE countries comparison significant differences concerning the level of preference of ethical leadership styles are indicated. Impact of various demographic predictors on the level of preference of ethical leadership is researched, too.

Social interactions are one of the most relevant contexts of our lives and they are intimately connected to the conceptualization, dynamics, development, and consequences of personality. In this chapter, I will first analyze the way social interactions unfold via interaction states of all interaction partners and describe how people differ in social interaction processes. Following the PERSOC model, I will argue that these individual differences are a key window to understanding the nature of some of the most popular personality traits (e.g., extraversion, dominance, shyness, agreeableness, narcissism), as well as their effects on and development in social relationships. Empirical research on individual differences in interaction state levels, contingencies, and fluctuations is summarized. In closing, I describe a couple of current limitations, and outline perspectives for understanding and assessing personality traits as dynamic social interaction systems.

Sidney Blatt personified in many ways the striving toward an inclusive, broad-minded, nonsectarian, and nondogmatic psychoanalysis. Intrigued and inspired by many trends in psychoanalytic thought and neighboring disciplines, he believed deeply in the coexistence and mutual contributions of a psychoanalytic clinical practice and of systematic empirical research on development and its disruptions, evolving personality traits, and the ways psychoanalytic treatment becomes effective. Carl Rogers, David Rapaport, and John Bowlby were among the figures who played a significant role in the development of his rich and complex thinking and productive work.

Summary The profile of an intuitive decision maker and the use of intuition in decision-making practice The aim of this paper is to determine the relationship between the personality traits identified in the literature as characteristic of an intuitive decision-maker and the use of intuition in the decisionmaking process. In order to empirically verify this issue, the author conducted a pilot study. The article consists of three principal parts and is both theoretical and empirical in nature. The first part presents the essence of intuition and attempts to define this ambiguous concept. Next, the personality traits, abilities and predispositions which make up the profile of an intuitive decision maker are discussed. The final part of the paper is devoted to presenting the results obtained in the course of this empirical research.

The tendency to lie is a part of personality. But are personality traits the only factors that make some people lie more often than others? We propose that cognitive abilities have equal importance. People with higher cognitive abilities are better, and thus more effective liars. This might reinforce using lies to solve problems. Yet, there is no empirical research that shows this relationship in healthy adults. Here we present three studies in which the participants had free choice about their honesty. We related differences in cognitive abilities and personality to the odds of lying. Results show that personality and intelligence are both important. People low on agreeableness and intelligent extroverts are most likely to lie. This suggests that intelligence might mediate the relationship between personality traits and lying frequency. While personality traits set general behavioral tendencies, intelligence and environment set boundaries.

The article deals with the issue of personality traits in adolescence. Particular attention is paid to the strategies of interaction between adolescents in conflict situations. The authors used a psychodiagnostic complex to analyze the behavior of adolescents in conflict situations. In the course of empirical research, the prevailing strategies of behavior in conflict were identified: cooperation and adjustment. The results of the comparative analysis revealed a number of relationships between personality traits in adolescence and behavior in conflict situations. The article focuses on the study of the relationship between adolescents' accentuations, their socio-psychological attitudes, psychological components of temperament, general abilities and preferred strategies of behavior in conflict.

Uncivil behavior at work can have numerous consequences for individuals and the organization. This paper examines the interplay of personality traits and organizational culture as antecedents of workplace incivility. Empirical research on a sample of 251 employees has shown that the perceptions and occurrence of workplace incivility can be significantly related to personality traits and features of organizational culture. When looking at the combined effect of personality and organizational culture, culture determines one’s perception and experience of incivility stronger than personality traits alone. The research showed that personality trait agreeableness and emphasizing values related to clan, market or adhocracy culture could reduce the odds of workplace incivility.
