Physical chemistry has been an aspect of chemistry which students find difficult at the secondary and tertiary levels of education. In the past, the effort of researchers has been focused on the research that will identify various causal factors which can be attributed to the performance of the learners in this aspect of chemistry. Also, very few experimental studies, has been carried out to improve students’ performance. In order to find the right bases for all research that will improve students’ achievement, there is a need to profile the misconceptions in the aspect of physical chemistry which is chemical equilibrium. The purpose of this study is to determine students’ misconceptions regarding the concepts of chemical equilibrium. To diagnose students' misconceptions in this area, a two-tier multiple-choice question on chemical equilibrium test was administered to 300 high school students in Ilesa Metropolis of Osun- state, Nigeria. Descriptive analysis was used in analyzing the data, students’ responses in a Chemical Equilibrium Misconception Test (CEMT) were categorized. The results revealed widespread misconceptions among students in the areas related to (1) equilibrium constant (2) heterogeneous Equilibrium (3) Approach to chemical equilibrium, (4) Application of Le-Chatelier Principle and (5) adding a catalyst.

The purpose of this study was to identify how secondary education students define the concept of justice, based on which criteria they define their experiences as just/unjust, what they see as the source of injustice, how they feel and how they behave when they face injustice. This study was designed as a qualitative research study. Open-ended questions were asked to the students and they were asked to give detailed answers. Descriptive analysis was used in analysing the collected data. The study group consisted of students studying at 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades in different types of high schools (Anatolian High School, Vocational School for Girls, Science High School). A total number of 268 high school students participated in the study. We used convenience sampling to choose the study group. The results of the study indicated that students defined the concept of justice with the “equality, equity non-discrimination, respect, rights and freedoms, conscience, rights, deciding the right, being fair and needs” concepts. The students see grades, school rules and non-communication they experience with their teachers and principals as unjust, so they point the school principals as the source of injustice. Besides, the students indicated that they had negative feelings when they experienced something that is not just but preferred to stay silent.

Abstract Implementation of demonstration method in the teaching of chemistry is assigned as the right strategy to improve students’ achievement as it is proved that the method can bring an abstract concept to reality in the class. The study is conducted to vocational high school students in SMKN1 Pargetteng getteng Sengkut Pakfak Barat at accademic year 2013. The teaching has been carried out three cycles on the teaching of chemistry topic of colloid system. In the study, the class is divided into two class, experiment class and control class. The demontration method is used to teach students in experimental class while the teaching in control class is conducted with lecture method. Both are evaluated by using multiple choise tests before and after the teaching procedures, and the ability of students to answer the problems are assigned as students’ achievements. The results showed that demonstration method improved students’ achievement in chemistry. The students in experimental class who are taughed with demonstration method (M=19.08±0.74) have higher achievements compare with control class (M=12.91±2.52), and both are significantly different (tcalculation 22.85 > ttable 1.66). The effectivity of demostration method in experimental class (97%) is found higer compare to conventional method in control class (91%).

FAMILY COUNSELING, FOR THE PREVENTION OF DRUG USE IN THIRDYEAR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ABSTRACT The current work addresses one of the most pressing issues of current times such as the high rate of drug use in educational institutions, which greatly affect Ecuadorian society. Its objective is to analyze the guidelines for improving family orientation, and develop appropriate interpersonal relationships that promote family unity, value the principles, and that young people learn to say "no" to a possible proposal to use prohibited drugs, that the only thing that is achieved is to materialize in an unsuitable state before the community, to consider that the consequences for health are devastating, people who at an early age suffer from diseases that in many occasions are very serious, causing discomfort not only their own but also the family. I can mention as contribution of this article; and based on established results that it is essential and important to maintain the assistance of a professional specialized in psychology, scientific and motivational dialogues, together with medical care, will cause the affected person to eradicate drug use. There are many factors that cause great negative influence on families, based on the fact that the world currently lives the trend of consumerism which greatly influences that there is less dialogue at home, the emergence of technology is another of the adverse situations. The professionals responsible for providing family counseling should always consider that the behavior of the human being should be understood from the point of view of their way of thinking, only in this way will a culture be developed that allows families to make the right decisions when forming to their children, which in the future will be evident as useful beings to society. KEYWORDS: drug use; family orientation; moral values.

This study aims to develop a Three-tier Diagnostic Instrument on Chemical Equilibrium (TT-DICE) to diagnose high school students’ misconceptions related to this topic. TT-DICE consists of thirty items, asking for students’ answers, reasonings, and levels of confidence. Three-stages development models developed by Treagust applied in developing TT-DICE. First-stage was a literature study to analyze the main concepts and students’ misconceptions in CE. The next step is the development of the TT-DICE prototype, consisting of item development, preliminary experiments, interviews, and revisions. The third stage of validity checking starts with content validation by experts and practitioners. A field test conducted to determine the reliability and quality variables are supporting TT-DICE items. These variables are Item Validity (IV), Difficulty Level (DL), Discrimination Index (DI), and effectiveness of distractors. Content validity by validators showed that the TT-DICE is valid with a very high category (96.1%). The results of item validity show that 88.9% of the items are valid. Testing of DL, DI, and the effectiveness of distractors in general, shows a good category. The Reliability of the three-tiers TTDICE using Alpha Cronbach is a high and very high category, respectively (0.83, 0.81 & 0.91). The overall validity test results also concluded if the TT-DICE is valid, reliable, and suitable to diagnose misconceptions of Chemical Equilibrium.
