The study assessed the relationship between demand and consumer preferences for differently processed (dried and iced) fish products in Abakaliki metropolis. Purposive random sampling technique was used to select the respondents (60 consumers and 20 marketers) who through questionnaire and interview schedule supplied the data used for the study. The data collected were analysed using both descriptive and inferential statistics in the forms of frequency and percentages. Economic benefit was assessed using gross margin analysis. The results obtained showed that most of the consumers (56.67%) and marketers (65%) of fish products were married females who were within the age range of 35 and 38 years. Mean household size was 7 and 6 persons for consumers and marketers respectively while mean annual income was N105,080 and N183,000 respectively. Results of economic analysis showed that marketers who sold mangala (Bangi mangala) fish in dried form made a gross margin of N1,649,580 while those who sold in iced form made a gross margin of N505,830. In conclusion, selling fish in dried form was more profitable given a net return of N3.631 to every N1 invested as against N1.810 gotten for iced fish marketing. The recommendation was that mangala fish should be processed and sold in dried form to enhance profitability. Keywords: Assessment, fish, demand, preference, Abakaliki metropolis

Optimism is a part of positive psychology which leads to better adaptive and coping skills and reduced stress level in an individual. The aim of the present research was to study the association of optimism and perceived stress among young adults. The sample consisted of 170 young adults (79 males and 91 females) within the age range of 18 to 25 years. Purposive sampling technique was employed for collecting the data. The Perceived stress scale-10 (PSS; Cohen, Kamarack & Marmelstein, 1983) and Life Orientation Test- Revised (Scheir, Carver, & Bridges, 1994) was used for measuring perceived stress and optimism respectively. Correlation and t-test was found using IBM SPSS software. Findings suggested that optimism was negatively correlated with perceived stress. Females were found to score significantly higher on perceived stress levels than males. While the gender difference in optimism level was reported to be insignificant. Future research needs to be conducted on the relationship between gender and levels of optimism.

Method of Data Collection: Data for the study were collected using structured questionnaires and interview schedules. Method of Data Analysis: Descriptive statistics, gross-margin analysis and profitability ratios were used in analyzing the data. Results and Discussion: The result of the analysis showed that majority of the fish farmers (70%) were males and within the age range of 31 - 50 years. The result equally revealed that majority of the farmers (86%) had at least a National Diploma with about 5 -14 years fish farming experience. The result further indicated that cost of feed and fingerlings were the major cost component involved in catfish production. The gross margin analysis and profitability ratios revealed that catfish production is very profitable in the study area with a net income of about N576, 667 and a BCR of 1.6. The study however revealed that the high cost of farm inputs and poor credit facilities were the major constraints to catfish production in the area. This study aimed to identify the relationship between father’s involvement in parenting and children anxiety level. The variables of this research were the father’s involvement in parenting (X) and the anxiety level of children (Y) using a descriptive quantitative approach. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling which consisted of children within the age range of 7-8 years old who experienced sexual abuse, having biological parents, and living in South Tangerang City. A total of 14 children were taken as the samples based on the sampling technique. Data collection was carried out through the scale of father’s involvement in parenting and the Spence Children’s Anxiety Scale. Simple linear regression was used to test the relationship between the father’s involvement in parenting and children anxiety level. The results showed that the significance score 0.000 < 0.05, it means that father’s involvement influenced the anxiety level of children experiencing sexual abuse.

Multistage sampling technique was used to select 140 respondents using purposive and random selection. A well-structured questionnaire was the main tool for data collection. Descriptive statistics was used to describe the socio-economic characteristics of the farmers, gross margin analysis was used to determine gross returns per hectare of sesame production. Results showed that males were dominant (61.4%) in sesame production in the area and some (39.3%) were between 41-50 years. Majority of the farmers (75.5%) were married, 50.7% had no formal education while 42.9% had farming experience of 6-10 years. The present study was conducted to explore the relationship between resilience self-compassion, mindfulness and emotional well-being of doctors working in critical and non-critical care units of patients. It was hypothesized that there is likely to be positive relationship between resilience, self-compassion, mindfulness and emotional wellbeing of doctors and resilience, self-compassion and mindfulness are likely to be positive predictors of emotional well-being of doctors working in critical care and non critical care units of patients. Further it was also hypothesized that there are likely to be gender differences in resilience, self-compassion, mindfulness and emotional well-being of doctors. Data was collected from doctors (n = 100) with age range of 25 to 55 (M = 28.27, SD = 5.88) using convenient sampling technique. The Brief Resilience Scale (Smith et al., 2008); Self-compassion Scale (Neff, 2003); Mindfulness Attention Awareness Scale (Brown and Ryan, 2003); and Scale of Positive and Negative Experiences (SPANE, Diener et al., 2009) were used to collect data. The results of correlation analysis showed that there was positive and significant correlation between resilience, self-compassion, mindfulness and emotional well-being of both groups of doctors. Regression analysis revealed that self-compassion was only significant predictor of emotional well-being. Moreover, significant gender differences were found on emotional well-being. Nevertheless, resilience, self-compassion and mindfulness abilities are alike in male and female doctors.

This study was conducted to identify the factors influencing tomato marketing in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. Primary data were collected from a total of 100 tomato marketers using a multistage sampling technique. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics, gross margin analysis and multiple regression analysis. The result obtained revealed that wholesalers had a higher gross margin than retailers. Gender, education level and transportation costs were found to influence the marketing margin of retailers, whereas household size and transportation costs influenced the marketing margin of wholesalers. The study therefore recommends that tomato marketers should be encouraged into wholesale marketing. This can be achieved by subsidization and the implementation of an efficient marketing system.

This paper examined the factors that influenced profit from cocoa beans marketing in Ogun State, Nigeria. Fifty (50) cocoa beans marketers were selected using a multi-stage sampling technique. Data were collected with the aid of a structured questionnaire designed to solicit information on the socio-economic characteristics of the cocoa beans marketers, their operating costs and return and problems associated with cocoa beans marketing in the study area. Descriptive statistics, marketing margin analysis, gross margin analysis and the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) regression technique were em-ployed in the analysis of the study data. The study revealed that men (84%) are more involved in co-coa beans marketing than women. Further, the study finds cocoa beans marketing to be a profitable venture in the study area having a gross margin of ₦137,719.27 (US $ 885.51) per month and a mar-keting margin of N40,600 (US $ 261.94). The percentage marketing margin was 34.73% which implies that the cocoa beans marketers realize a margin of 34.76% of the farm price. The result of the OLS regression analysis revealed that cost of transportation, communication cost, volume of cocoa traded and membership of market union are the significant determinants of the profit margin that accrue to the cocoa beans marketer. The identified constraints to cocoa beans marketing in the study area in-clude low quality of cocoa beans, poor transportation facilities and inadequate capital. The study con-cluded that cocoa beans marketing is economically rewarding in the study area. It recommends that the government should help to provide good transportation facilities. Also, agricultural and commercial banks as well as other micro credit financial institutions should assist in providing credit facility to the marketers as this will enable them expand their scope of marketing and consequently improve their profit margin.
