Spatial orientation behavior is universal among animals, but its neuronal basis is poorly understood. The main objective of the present study was to identify candidate patterns of neuronal connectivity (motifs) for two widely recognized classes of spatial orientation behaviors: hill climbing, in which the organism seeks the highest point in a spatial gradient, and goal seeking, in which the organism seeks an intermediate point in the gradient. Focusing on simple networks of graded processing neurons characteristic of Caenorhabditis elegans and other nematodes, we used an unbiased optimization algorithm to seek values of neuronal time constants, resting potentials, and synaptic strengths sufficient for each type of behavior. We found many different hill-climbing and goal-seeking networks that performed equally well in the two tasks. Surprisingly, however, each hill-climbing network represented one of just three fundamental circuit motifs, and each goal-seeking network comprised two of these motifs acting in concert. These motifs are likely to inform the search for the real circuits that underlie these behaviors in nematodes and other organisms.

Pedagogical universities are in the area of great attention from the society and the state because of their increasing role in forming the human capital of the territories. The purpose of this article is to explain the necessity and possibility of creating a mission and strategy for the development of pedagogical universities in (macro) regions on the basis of a post-non-classical understanding of pedagogical education. Methodology and methods: to construct the mission of the pedagogical university, claiming to play an active role in the ecosystem of education in the region, the post-non-classical methodology was used in understanding pedagogical education as an open, system-synergetic approach (ecosystem as its kind), as well as the typical of the post-non-classical methodology, methods of reconstructing the experience of designing an open pedagogical education in a heterogeneous (academic and teaching) professional community. Research results: three missions of the regional pedagogical university are characterized: education, research and impact on society, from the standpoint of the ecosystem approach and the concept of an entrepreneurial university. A pedagogical university acts as a key element of the ecosystem if it demonstrates an entrepreneurial type of behavior, overcomes resource constraints due to the dominance of the third mission over education and research, subordinating them to the task of creating a cohort of agents of change – vanguard groups of future a working teachers in the territory. Conclusion: the missions of the pedagogical university should be subordinated to the influence on the entire pedagogical corps of the region by increasing the density of connections in educational and professional communities.

Abstract A theoretical investigation of the mechanism of uniaxial compression impact on elastic-plastic materials is described in this paper. The method of analysis is similar in some respects to that previously given for tension impact on such materials. It is concluded that four different kinds of behavior can occur, depending upon the impact velocity. In the lowest velocity range the behavior in compression is similar to that found in tension. In this case stress and strain are propagated from the point of impact as a zone or wave front of ever-increasing length. This type of behavior ends at a velocity corresponding to the “critical” velocity found in tension impact. Within the next higher velocity range, stress and strain are propagated as a shock-type wave, or wave of very small length in which the transition from low to high stress and strain is very abrupt. At still higher impact velocities, there occurs “flowing deformation” in which the material is too weak to maintain coherency. Here there is a steady flow of the material toward and against the hammer, after which it flows in a thin sheet radially outward over the face of the hammer. The final possible state occurs at impact velocities greater than the speed of an elastic wave, so that no disturbance can escape from the hammer into the medium. Here the behavior is essentially that of a fluid, impact force being independent of strength of material.

The present work explores the potential of tea fibre waste as an adsorbent to remove phenol and nickel from wastewater in both single and binary component mode. The properties of the tea fibre such as surface area, pore volume and particle size were improved by treating with hydrochloric acid. The isotherm models were verified for single component system to find the adsorption mechanism. The equilibrium data were obeying Freundlich model. The simultaneous adsorption of two pollutants were carried out in order to evaluate the interaction mechanism such as synergic, antagonistic or non-interaction effect. It was observed that overall the system was exhibiting synergistic type of behavior.

Relational Frame Theory (RFT) is the simplest form of operant theory since it claims nothing more than a particular type of behavior, arbitrarily applicable derived relational responding, is an operant. While the theory is simple, its implications are not, and adoption has been slow until recently. RFT was first formally described in 1985 and in the 35 years since, hundreds of studies have been conducted on relational learning from an operant point of view. The present paper briefly summarizes that history and examines some of its key claims. So far, the empirical program delineated by RFT has held up remarkably well. Future directions are delineated that will enable a more comprehensive evaluation of the importance of the RFT research program, and a more thorough exploration of its profound implications.

Social Enterprise (SE) is an increasingly important sector for generating employment and distributing wealth in market structures. The social business type two (SB2)—a very specific type of SE—is a category that has challenged orthodox theoretical elements in its main assumptions and behavior in the markets. SB2 is mainly classified within the category of microenterprises because they have a very small number of employees. A new official business classification is important to differentiate enterprises not only by size, but also by type of behavior. There is a new indicator that compares the profit levels of microenterprises with the poverty line as a representative tool to classify Mexican microenterprises into profit seekers and SB2. When these outcomes are contrasted with a discrete choice model under the logistic functional form, the probabilities that this indicator classifies a microenterprise with entrepreneurship by necessity, installed capacity maximization and no profit seeking as SB2 is 80% for microenterprises up to ten workers, and goes up to 92% for microenterprises with one person. With such a new classification, better policies could be promoted to support SB2, and help address both the lack of opportunities from the market economy and poverty menace.

The article highlights the relevance and necessity of educating the children of older pre-school age in the principles of safe behavior. The features of laying the foundations for safe behavior of children of older pre-school age have been analyzed. The pedagogical conditions for laying the foundations for safe behavior among children of older pre-school age have been defined and substantiated. The characteristics of a preschool student with experience of safe behavior are presented. The article considers a topical issue of pedagogic that is the formation of the personality with a safe type of behavior. The article establishes the necessity of a purposeful educational guidance to form a basis for safety behavior in visually impaired children.

The research tests the proposition that risk aversion is a basic goal of bureaucratic decisionmaking within the Urban Development Action Grant Program (UDAGP) and that this type of behavior influences the spatial distribution of UDAGP grants. The results demonstrate that risk aversion is evident and that it tends to divert funds away from those cities with high distress. Political accommodation is shown to be evident in cases where bureaucrats are faced with high-risk projects. This accommodation influences the spatial distribution of UDAGP funds.

The article examines the manifestations of verbal aggression among students and draws attention to one aspect of it – the insulting words as a component of aggressive human behavior. The study is based on surveys conducted in 19 schools across Bulgaria. A classification of offensive vocabulary has been made. The study registers global trends in modern society, asking questions to psychologists, teachers, sociologists, namely – can aggression be prevented, transformed into a constructive type of behavior, whether the individual could affect the hostile environment etc.
