Lifestyle diseases are the burning problem today. The disease-causing lifestyles are Gramya achara, Apatarpana achara and Santarpana achara. The diseases which are caused due to such acharas are called lifestyle diseases. This is usually caused by unhealthy dietary habits and lack of physical exercise, leading to excess generation of Kapha and Medas. When this Kapha and Medas start accumulating in various parts of the body, it leads to Vyadhisankara / Aupasargika roga. Aupasargika roga includes Purvothpanna vyadhi / Purvarupa vyadhi and Upadrava vyadhi. Such type of Aupasargika roga is Urusthambha where the pathology can be divided into Purvarupa and Upadrava. Chikitsa also follows the pathology of the disease. The same has been attempted to capture in the below conceptual study. Keywords: Santarpana achara, Aupasargika roga, Urustambha, Purvarupa Vyadhi, Upadrava vyadhi, Kapha, Meda.

Social isolation has adverse effects on mental health, physical exercise, and dietary habits. This longitudinal observational study aimed to investigate the effects of mood states and exercise on nutritional choices, on 176 college students (92 males, 84 females; 23 ± 4 years old) during the COVID-19 lockdown. During 21 days, nutrition and exercise were daily monitored, and the mood states assessed. A factor analysis was used to reduce the number of nutritional variables collected. The relationships between exercise, mood and nutrition were investigated using a multivariate general linear model and a mediation model. Seven factors were found, reflecting different nutritional choices. Exercise was positively associated with fruit, vegetables and fish consumption (p = 0.004). Depression and quality of life were, directly and inversely, associated with cereals, legumes (p = 0.005; p = 0.004) and low-fat meat intake (p = 0.040; p = 0.004). Exercise mediated the effect of mood states on fruit, vegetables and fish consumption, respectively, accounting for 4.2% and 1.8% of the total variance. Poorer mood states possibly led to unhealthy dietary habits, which can themselves be linked to negative mood levels. Exercise led to healthier nutritional choices, and mediating the effects of mood states, it might represent a key measure in uncommon situations, such as home-confinement.

wholesome management of disease states which include diet, habit and medicine for total reversal of disease. Skin is the largest part of the body which is the protective covering as well as a reflection of the internal system. In Ayurveda various dermatological diseases discussed with its etiopathogenesis, classification and management and also described the wide range of etiological factors for Skin diseases including dietary habits and psychosocial factors. Tvak is the reflection of rasa dhatu sarata, hence any derangement in rasa dhatu function directly implies vitiation of quality of skin. The review is to unveil the importance of rasa dhatu dushti assessment in tvak roga which can help in both treatment aspects i.e. nidana parivarjana and samprapti vighattana.

In Ayurveda, Grahani Dosha is one among the Mahagadas. In modern science, Grahani Dosha included into digestive disorders. It’s prevalence about 69% in current time because of faulty dietary habits, sedentary lifestyle, stress and side effects of modern drugs. This cause leads too many digestive diseases. The organ Grahani is the seat of Jatharagni (digestive fire) both are interrelated. It’s supported and nourished by the strength of Agni. Normally, it receives the in- gested food, which is retained by restraining the downward movement (Grahanati). After diges- tion it releases the food through sides of lumen to next Ashaya i.e. Pakvashaya. In abnormal conditions due to weakness of Agni, it gets vitiated and releases food in indigested form. When Agni is not proper the food will not be digested properly and this undigested food gets fermenta- tion and acts like poison in the body. It’s called Ama. Ama Utpatti leads to Grahani Dosha. Ag- nimandhya is important factor in the Samprapti of the disease Grahani Dosha. So it should be mainly treated for Agnivardhana by Drugs with Deepana (which enhances digestive power) and Pachana (digestive) qualities.

The gastrointestinal tract is often considered as a key organ involved in the digestion of food and providing nutrients to the body for proper maintenance. However, this system is composed of organs that are extremely complex. Among the different parts, the intestine is viewed as an incredible surface of contact with the environment and is colonised by hundreds of trillions of gut microbes. The role of the gut barrier has been studied for decades, but the exact mechanisms involved in the protection of the gut barrier are various and complementary. Among them, the integrity of the mucus barrier is one of the first lines of protection of the gastrointestinal tract. In the past, this ‘slimy’ partner was mostly considered a simple lubricant for facilitating the progression of the food bolus and the stools in the gut. Since then, different researchers have made important progress, and currently, the regulation of this mucus barrier is gaining increasing attention from the scientific community. Among the factors influencing the mucus barrier, the microbiome plays a major role in driving mucus changes. Additionally, our dietary habits (ie, high-fat diet, low-fibre/high-fibre diet, food additives, pre- probiotics) influence the mucus at different levels. Given that the mucus layer has been linked with the appearance of diseases, proper knowledge is highly warranted. Here, we debate different aspects of the mucus layer by focusing on its chemical composition, regulation of synthesis and degradation by the microbiota as well as some characteristics of the mucus layer in both physiological and pathological situations.

People’s altered life style, dietary habits makes many metabolic changes in the body and ultimately have made them victim of many diseases. Obesity is one of those diseases. It is not only a disease but also precursor of so many diseases like dyslipidemia, IHD, CAD, Hypertension, Diabetes etc. It is also a social stigma. In Ayurveda, the management of Sthaulya is described through various aspects. According to Charaka, Sthaulya is a Bahudoshaja disease. Hence its management should be planned with Virechana Karma and Shamana drugs. Following the dictum of Charaka for the management of complicated Bahudoshaja Vyadhi like Sthaulya, Virechana Karma is advocated along with effect of Shamana drugs. Keeping in view the above concept, a research work was carried out to assess the actual role of Virechana in the management of disease Sthaulya. In this study total 30 patients were treated with Virechana followed by Sansarjana Karma. At the end of study patients had shown significant effect on weight and B.M.I. parameters.

ABSTRACT Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder characterised by recurrent epileptic seizures. Understanding the mechanisms by which it initiates and develops, as well as its modulating factors, are of great scientific interest. Experimental models of epilepsy are useful for understanding these mechanisms. Homocysteine, an amino acid endogenously generated in the body, together with its reactive metabolite, homocysteine thiolactone (HCT), is recognised as a risk factor for a variety of diseases. HCT-induced seizures are a model of generalised epilepsy in which the coexistence of two types of epileptic activity has been documented. Th e complex interplay between sleep and epilepsy is still only poorly understood. Additionally, the relationship between physical exercise and epilepsy is quite intriguing, especially the mechanism underlying this relationship. Th e role of nitric oxide (NO)-mediated neurotransmission in the development of epileptic activity is highly debated in the existing scientific literature . In this review article, we described the modulation of epileptic activity in rats and focused on sleep, physical activity and NO-mediated signalling. First, we explain the characteristics of the experimental models of epileptic activity and the unique features of HCT-induced seizures. Second, the modulating eff ects of sleep and regular physical exercise training on epileptic activity, along with works from the authors, are discussed. Finally, the anticonvulsive eff ects of NO that is produced via nNOS and iNOS in HCT-induced seizures are reviewed.
