Low proficiency ESL learners often encounter a lot of learning problems, particularly due to their lack of vocabulary, which is evident in their incorrect usage of words. This study was an attempt to aid 85 low proficiency ESL learners to easily comprehend the forms and functions of 80 target words, selected from the 2000 level General Word List, using the syntactic tree structure approach. Prior to the intervention, a vocabulary test based on 80 words, which were later introduced to the students in their course book, was administered to the students. The same test was given again to the students upon the completion of the third lesson. To determine the possible significant influence of the intervention, the pre-test and post-test data were analysed using the paired-samples t-test. The analysis yielded a significant result (t (84) = 7.31, p < .05 (two-tailed)). When the students’ mean test scores of the two tests were compared, a statistically significant increase of 7.5 points was observed, implying the success of the intervention. The calculated effect size was also large (ŋ=.39). However, since no control group was introduced in the study, caution should be taken in making any strong claims on a causal relationship.

<p><em>Buerger Allen Exercise</em> mampu meningkatkan pemakaian glukosa oleh otot yang aktif sehingga glukosa dalam darah dapat menurun, dapat membantu mencegah terjadinya penyakit arteri perifer, serta meningkatkan aliran darah ke arteri dan berefek positif pada metabolisme glukosa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui nilai <em>ankle brachial index</em>pada penderita diabetes melitus tipe 2setelah melakukan <em>Buerger Allen exercise</em>. Jenis penelitian ini adalah <em>quasy-experiment </em>dengan<em> pre-post test design with control group</em><em>.</em> Jumlah sampel 60 penderita diabetes melitus tipe 2 dengan <em>purposive sampling</em>, dibagi menjadi 2 kelompok yaitu kelompok perlakuan dan kelompok kontrol. Responden kelompok perlakuan diberikan intervensi <em>Buerger Allen exercise</em> sebanyak 12 kali  selama 15 hari.Penelitian dilakukan di wilayah Puskesmas Kecamatan Nganjuk.Data hasilpengukuran nilai <em>ankle brachial index</em>berupa ratio dan diuji statistik dengan <em>Paired Samples Test</em>. Didapatkan <em>p value</em> 0.001 untuk kelompok perlakuan (<em>p value</em>&lt; 0.05) yang menunjukkan bahwa adanya perubahan bermakna secara statistik nilai <em>ankle brachial index</em> sesudah melakukan <em>Buerger Allen exercise</em>. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa nilai <em>ankle brachial index</em>pada penderita diabetes melitus tipe 2 meningkat sesudah melakukan <em>Buerger Allen exercise</em>.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Kata kunci :penderita diabetes melitus tipe2, <em>Buerger Allen Exercise, Ankle brachial index</em></strong></p><p> </p>

<p>Merapi eruption in 2010 in Yogyakarta caused people losing their homes and triggering traumatic effect. Elderly is one of victims that vulnerable to psychological problem. The common psychological late respons due to disaster is insomnia. The impacts of insomnia are decrease the level of immunity, increase mortality and decrease quality of life, thus it needs to be solved. One of the solution is by listening murotal Al-Qur’an that will give relaxation effect. The study was aimed to know the effectiveness of listening murotal Al-Qur’an to the changing of elderly insomnia level in shelter Dongkelsari, Sleman, Yogyakarta.The design of study was a quasy experimental pre post test with control group. Technique of taking sample was probability sampling and it was found that there were 37 elderly who live in shelter Dongkelsari Sleman Yogyakarta that fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Research instrument which was used to measure insomnia level is KSPBJ questionnaire rating scale and to listen for murotal Al-Qur’an (Ar-Rahmaan) was used laptop and speaker. The duration of listening murotal Al-Qur’an was 8 days with 12 minutes for each day. Data analysis was used paired samples t test and independent samples t test. The level of insomnia for control group pre test and post test is in moderate insomnia by the mean ± SD each of them is 9.3 ± 3.7 and 10.3 ± 3.4 (p&gt;0.05) and for intervention group there was a changing from moderate insomnia to mild insomnia by the mean ± SD each of them is 10.9 ± 3.6 and 8.2 ± 4.2 (p&lt;0.05). There was a significant differences between the intervention group and control group by the mean ± SD each of them is -2.8 ± 3.0 and 0.9 ± 3.5 (p&lt;0.05). In conclusion, listening murotal Al-Qur’an was effective to reduce elderly insomnia level in shelter Dongkelsari Sleman Yogyakarta.</p>

BACKGROUND: Oral health problems are ones that must be considered by the elderly. Dental and oral health in the elderly is essential and closely related to general health. Overcoming this problem needs necessary to optimize the elderly’s ability to maintain dental and oral hygiene by providing information and skills. AIM: The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of self-empowerment-based education packages on knowledge and oral hygiene of the elderly in the Darul Imarah district of Aceh Besar. METHODS: This study’s design was a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest design with control group design. This research is located in the village of Darul Imarah District, Aceh Besar. A sample of 80 older adults who were divided into two groups. Each group numbered 40 people. The criteria for this sampling were inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data analysis used univariable, bivariable, and multivariate using paired samples test and independent t-test. RESULTS: The results showed a difference in mean knowledge from post-test I to post-test II (P = 0.002). The results of the multivariate analysis of the knowledge, attitude, and behavior variables on the maintenance of dental and oral hygiene had a significant effect on the periodontal health status of pre-elderly (p = 0.001). The statistical test results showed that there was an effect of self-empowerment-based education on the knowledge of the elderly, p = 0.001. The results showed that there was no difference in knowledge in the control group in the post-test I and post-test 2 with a value of p = 0.72, and there was a difference in knowledge in the intervention group in the post-test I and post-test 2 with a value of p = 0.002. There were differences in dental and oral hygiene in the control group, and there were differences in dental and oral hygiene after being given the intervention with a value of p = 0.003. CONCLUSION: There is a significant effect of providing a self-empowerment-based education package to the elderly on the level of knowledge and oral hygiene status of the elderly in Darul Imarah District, Aceh Besar (p <0.05).

Early childhood learning motivation requires guidance and encouragement from older people as a driving motivator. Learning activities in schools are less innovative and interactive, so learning media is needed to increase children's learning motivation. The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of learning video media on the learning motivation of children aged 5-6 years. This research refers to experimental quantitative research using a nonequivalent control group design model. Data collection techniques using observation instruments, as well as documentation. Data analysis used SPSS 22 with paired samples test. The subject of this research was carried out at RA Asy Syifa for testing the instrument grid with a total of 30 children with the division of RA AR Ar Rahman class RA B as the experimental group totaling 15 children and RA Daarul Mukhlisin class RA B as the control group totaling 15 children. The results showed that the effect of learning video media on experimental group children before getting treatment (pre-test) got an average value of 33.87, and after getting treatment (post-test), the score was 36.80. The use of learning video media has a good influence in increasing the learning motivation of children aged 5-6 years. In addition, computer-based learning videos make children feel happy and interested, developing aspects of child development. The findings of this study contribute to knowledge about the importance of developing learning videos in early childhood education.

Cardiovascular endurance is the ability of cardiorespiratorysystem to provide oxygen for muscle, Hence they can do their work or contraction. Mental health is healthy soul condition and free of psychological symptoms. The aim of this research was to know zumba gymnastic to be able to increase cardiovascular endurance and mental health for subject with schizophrenia at RSJ of Bali Province. The methodology of the research used experimental randomized pre and post-test control group design. The samples consisted of 10 persons as controled groups, without being given treatment by researcher but being given daily activity of living and psychopharmaca. 10 persons as treatment groups provided zumba gymnastic, activity daily of living and psychopharmaca. The exercise was performed three times in a week, for six week with duration 45 minutes at RSJ of Bali Province, Bangli District. The result showed that in control groups, Cardiovascular endurance mean of pre-test 34.30±7.60 ml/kg/minute, post-test 34.00±7.57 ml/kg/minute (p>0.05) was analysed by paired samples test and without being increase mean of cardiovascular endurance. Mental health mean of pre-test 9.20±3.16, post-test 7.90±3.45 (p<0.05) was analysed by paired samples test showing increase mean of mental health was 1.3. In treatment groups, cardiovascular endurance mean of pre-test 31.80±3.15 ml/kg/minute, post-test 33.90±4.48 ml/kg/minute (p<0.05) was analysed by paired samples test, showing increase mean of cardiovascular endurance was 2.1 ml/kg/minute. Mental health mean of pre-test 6.50±2.51, post-test 2.50±1.18 (p<0.05) was analysed by wilcoxon test, showing increase mean of mental health was 4.00. it’s concluded that was that zumba gymnastic increaseds cardiovascular endurance and mental health for subject with schizophrenia at RSJ of Bali Province.

This study aimed at examining the effectiveness of demonstration technique to improve vocabulary and grammar element in teaching speaking at EFL learners. This research applied true-experimental design. The respondents of the study were 32 students (class IIA) as experimental group and 32 students (class IIB) as control group from the second semester of Economic Departments of Hamzanwadi University in the academic year 2016-2017. To collect the data, a pre-test and a post-test were given to the EFL learners. To analyze the data, the researcher applied SPSS 17 for windows. To analyze whether there was a significant difference in the mean score between pre-test and post-test, the researcher used a paired-samples t-test to get answer of the hypothesis. After performing a paired-samples t-test, the researcher found that there was a significant difference in mean scores between experimental and control group and t-test score is higher than t-table, it meant that demonstration technique was significantly effective in teaching speaking, especially to improve the element of vocabulary and grammar in teaching speaking at EFL learners.

This paper reports the findings of the implementation of full dictation and partial dictation in improving the awareness of using grammar knowledge in reconstructing listening texts among the EFL students at STBA (School of Foreign Languages) LIA Yogyakarta. Three groups participated in the study, i.e. two experimental groups (Group A and B) and a control group (Group C). A pre-test on listening to lectures was administered to the three groups. Over 9 sessions, Group C did the listening exercises in their textbook using dicto-comp technique, while in addition to the listening exercises which applied dicto-comp, the students in Group A was given full dictation exercises and Group B received partial dictation exercises. A post-test was given to the three groups after the ninth session. In addition to the post-test, a 5-point Likert-scale questionnaire assessing the students responses to the dictation exercises was given to the experimental groups. Results of paired-samples tests indicated that there was a significant difference between each groups pre- and post-test. The mean gain score of Group B was higher than Group A showing that Group B had better improvement in the post-test. Furthermore, Group B had better grammar points in their post-test compared to Group A. Group C also increased their scores but they still got their teachers assistance to point out their grammatical mistakes in their notes. This suggests that the dictations given to the experimental groups improved the students awareness in applying their grammar knowledge to reproduce a listening text they heard.

Learning and memorizing irregular verbs are some of the most difficult aspects of the language for non-native English learners. Research concerning games for education reveals that educational games have a large positive impact on learners’ skills and abilities. This research was divided into two phases including 1) the design, development and deployment of a mobile game used as an English learning tool for ESL learners and 2) an evaluation of the outcome. An Android mobile game was developed and then deployed on Google Play. In the evaluation phase, a quasi-experimental set-up with a non-equivalent pre-test and post-test control group design, was used to evaluate the impact of the use of the mobile game. The sample consisted of sixty-four tenth-grade students who studied English in a Thai school. There were two groups; the treatment group (N=32) and the control group (N=32) selected by cluster sampling. Both groups were given a pre-test to measure their prior knowledge. The sample then learned English in the class using conventional methods over a six-week period. During that period, the treatment group used the mobile game as a supplementary tool. Finally, both groups were given a post-test to measure the learning outcome. In this study, an independent t-test at the significance level of 0.01 was conducted. The results revealed that students who used the mobile game as a supplementary tool had statistically significantly higher learning outcomes.

Latar Belakang : Kadar kolesterol LDL yang tinggi dan HDL yang rendah berkaitan dengan penyebab utama terjadinya penyakit jantung dan pembuluh darah. Serat diketahui dapat menurunkan kadar kolesterol LDL serta meningkatkan kolesterol HDL. Nata de coco mengandung selulosa, hemiselulosa dan lignin yang memiliki efek hipokolesterolemia dalam darah.Metode : Jenis penelitian adalah true experimental dengan rancangan control group pre-test-post-test. Sebanyak 52 wanita dengan kadar kolesterol LDL ≥100 mg/dl dan HDL ≤50 mg/dl menjadi subyek dalam penelitian ini. Subyek dibagi menjadi 3 kelompok, yaitu kelompok kontrol, perlakuan 1 mendapat 160 g nata de coco/hari (serat 4.8 g) dan perlakuan 2 mendapat 320 g nata de coco/hari (serat 9.6 g). Intervensi dilakukan selama 14 hari. Metode phosphotungstic precipilation digunakan untuk menganalisis kadar HDL sementara kadar LDL dianalisis mengunakan rumus Friedewald. Darah diambil setelah subyek berpuasa selama 10 jam. Analisis statistik yang digunakan antara lain paired-samples t test, ANOVA dan Kruskal-Wallis.  Hasil : Konsumsi nata de coco sebanyak 160 g/hari dan 320 g/hari berturut-turut menurunkan kadar kolesterol LDL sebanyak 4.47% (p=0.091) dan 6.25% (p=0.044) serta meningkatkan kadar kolesterol HDL sebanyak 12.1% (p=0.001) dan 3.6% (p=0.361). Tidak terdapat perbedaan pengaruh pemberian nata de coco terhadap perubahan kadar kolesterol LDL antar kedua kelompok (p=0.863), namun terdapat pengaruh yang bermakna terhadap kolesterol HDL antar kedua kelompok (p=0.043). Sedangkan pada kelompok kontrol terjadi peningkatan kadar kolesterol LDL sebebesar 2.54% (p=0.005) dan penurunan kadar kolesterol HDL sebesar 0,56% (p=0.570).Kesimpulan : Konsumsi nata de coco sebanyak 320 g/hari berpengaruh terhadap penurunan kadar kolesterol LDL secara bermakna sedangkan pemberian nata de coco sebanyak 160 g/hari berpengaruh terhadap peningkatan kolesterol HDL secara bermakna.Kata kunci : nata de coco; kolesterol LDL; kolesterol HDL; wanita; dislipidemia.

Latar Belakang : Hiperkolesterolemia merupakan salah satu faktor risiko terjadinya penyakit jantung dan pembuluh darah. Konsumsi makanan tinggi serat dapat menurunkan risiko penyakit jantung dan pembuluh darah. Nata de coco mengandung selulosa, hemiselulosa dan lignin yang berperan dalam menurunkan kadar kolesterol total dalam darah. Metode : Jenis penelitian adalah true experimental dengan rancangan control group pre-test-post-test. Subyek adalah wanita hiperkolesterolemia dengan kadar kolesterol total ≥200 mg/dl, dibagi menjadi 3 kelompok, yaitu kelompok kontrol, kelompok perlakuan 1 mendapat 160 g nata de coco/hari (serat 4.8 g) dan perlakuan 2 mendapat 320 g nata de coco/hari (serat 9.6 g). Intervensi dilakukan selama 14 hari. Metode CHOD-PAP digunakan untuk menganalisis kadar kolesterol total, darah diambil setelah subyek berpuasa selama 10 jam. Uji normalitas menggunakan Shapiro-Wilk. Analisis statistik menggunakan uji paired-samples t test dan uji Kruskal-Wallis. Hasil : Konsumsi nata de coco dengan dosis 160 g/hari (serat 4.8 g) dan 320 g/hari (serat 9.6 g) dapat menurunkan kadar kolesterol total berturut-turut sebesar 5.17%  (p=0.049) dan 6.59% (p=0.011),  namun tidak ada perbedaan penurunan kadar kolesterol total antara kedua kelompok (p=0.857). Sedangkan pada kelompok kontrol terjadi peningkatan kadar kolesterol total sebesar 1.7% (p=0.024). Kesimpulan : Konsumsi nata de coco berpengaruh terhadap penurunan kadar kolesterol total pada wanita hiperkolesterolemia, namun tidak ada perbedaan penurunan kadar kolesterol total antara kedua kelompok.
