Today adulthood seems to be characterized also by a certain number of obligations and the assumption of responsibilities. It is an age in which the life course in the form of an institutional processing program seems to be undermined. This can be seen in the extended periods of schooling, teaching, training and the associated shortening of the working phase of a lifetime. Adulthood is to be understood as a social construct resulting from current demands and ideas. A diverse multidisciplinary presentation of the demands placed on adults will be discussed and a holistic representation of the concept of the adult will be developed. Which educational, biological, philosophical, legal, economic and psychological approaches and theories are relevant here? In view of this, adulthood can currently be defined on the basis of various interdisciplinary characteristics. Adulthood is defined as a phase that is open to development and begins with (sexual) maturity. The adult moves between dependence and autonomy, striving for autonomy. The adult is also characterized by responsibility and "wisdom". Adulthood is therefore to be understood from the perspective of contemporary educational science as a phase of development in which the relationship of the individual to himself and his environment changes through the mastering of age-related demands and the examination of the social and material environment. The adult thereby experiences himself/herself as a legally mature being who assumes economic and social responsibility for him/herself.

This article discusses the basic concepts of Berdyaev’s philosophy, traces the relationship of his philosophical view and political convictions. This relationship is revealed through the concept of personality, which is the central concept of Berdyaev’s philosophy. Through the attitude to the personality, we can reveal the attitude of N. A. Berdyaev to the institution of the state, understand the social preferences of the Russian philosopher, who has come a long way from the representative of Russian Marxism to Russian religious philosophy. Having understood his ideas about the ideal structure of society, we can understand the attitude of N. A. Berdyaev to the Soviet state. The article distinguishes between two different types of relationships: the individual and society - collectivism and communitarianism. Berdyaev’s view is shown in the origins of Russian communism, which, in the opinion of the philosopher, are found not only in Western European philosophy, but also in the historical mentality of Russian people.

Self-esteem is central to personal education. The social environment directly affects the formation of self-esteem. While functioning, it affects human behavior, self-regulation and is influenced by the values of the individual. Self-esteem is a complex education that includes both intellectual and emotional components. Many experts believe that self-esteem is not only a person's assessment of himself, but also his place among the people around him. Accordingly, it affects the relationship of a person with others, the effectiveness of his activities and the further development of the personality.

Inspired by life course and osteobiography approaches, this article explores the life and death of an individual associated with the lakam title (“banner” in Colonial Yukatek Maya; thus, a “standard-bearer”), a nonroyal elite of Late Classic period Maya society (AD 600–850). Although these elites are depicted on polychrome vessels and carved monuments, little is known about their life experiences and mortuary practices. The present analysis centers on an individual found at Structure GZ1, a temple with a hieroglyphic stairway, at the Maya archaeological site of El Palmar, Mexico. Using osteological, archaeological, and epigraphic data as different lines of evidence, we examine the relationship of the individual to his affiliated group. At the time of interment, there were a wide array of social, cultural, and political events both shaping and reshaping the body and identities of the individual during a period of political turbulence.

The study on the signs of socio-economic constitutionalism addresses only certain aspects of this broad issue. The article says that the Constitution of the Russian Federation lays down the potential of a socially oriented economy, examines the relationship of the social and economic foundations of the constitutional system with the foundations of the socio-economic status of the individual and the problems of the country's economic development. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that the significance of constitutional values in the context of socioeconomic constitutionalism during the economic crisis is indicated, a correlation is established between the effective development of a socially-oriented economy and the implementation of constitutional norms that enshrine the principles and guarantees of socio-economic rights as basic guidelines, not fully implemented. The scientific result of the study was the proposal of the need to develop and implement a state standard of social well-being. In connection with the use of such a standard, law enforcement practice may in the future contribute to positive shifts in Russian socio-economic constitutionalism in the context of the formation of answers to the challenges of globalization.

The article describes the meaning of the philosophical category of “values”, its integration with culture, the role and significance of cultural values, the formation of a culture of being, examples of interpretations of philosophers of the 19th and 20th centuries are given. The categories of objects that are cultural values are highlighted. Also, the article discusses in detail the axiological approaches in philosophy and highlights several facts that deserve special attention. While working with this article, we come to the conclusion that the “Axiological Turn” describes in great detail the relationship of people, both just one-on-one with each other, and with a group, with society. The key moment in this event is the development of such forms of thinking inherent in culture and man, which will help maintain good relationships with the environment, with nature, with society. The “axiological turn” helps people to understand the importance of feeling a part of society and how important the development of language is as a means of intercultural communication. “Axiological turn” describes culture as an integral composite phenomenon, consisting of independent elements, but related to each other. All these elements are characteristic of any group of people and are one of the main sources of communication, self-identification and also the integration of the individual into the social system.

The results of an empirical study of the relationship between citizenship and trust on a sample of students from three universities (N = 252) are presented in the article. A trusting relationship is based on goodwill, honesty and on the desire to understand, accept another person with all his individual characteristics. The civic position in the work is considered as the social civic activity of the individual, proceeding under the influence of the socio-cultural environment. This is a moral position that encourages a person to feel like a part of civil society, expressed in the presence of a person’s system of socially significant moral guidelines that determine his sense of duty and responsibility to society, his willingness to actively defend his rights and interests and therefore act for the benefit of the people, society. The concepts of “adoption of standards” and “civic identity” are revealed. Diagnostics, in the presented study, was carried out using the Questionnaire of Confidence Relationships, the Questionnaire of Civil Identity (two scales: attitude to the norms of civil society, active civic position); projective methodology “Civic identity” (the methodology studies the significant values of civil society on seven scales). It was found that the educational and regional characteristics of the studied groups of students have an impact on the level of trust and civic characteristics of Russian student youth.

Abstract Four decades on from the publication of 'The Ageing Enterprise', this paper provides a critical review of the relationship between social theory and social policies for later life. To what extent do current theoretical perspectives in gerontology bear the influence of ideas laid out in that pioneering book? How has the ‘ageing enterprise’ fared given the dominant ideology of neo-liberalism and the precarious lives faced by people moving through the life course? The paper considers these questions in the context of globalization processes, and the imposition of austerity policies. The paper will consider the continuing importance of ‘The Ageing Enterprise’ by reviewing three main themes: first, assessing the changing relationship between the state and social policy; second, through examining current perspectives within critical gerontology; third, highlighting new forms of empowerment developing amongst older people, and the relationship of these to the values and ideas expressed in ‘The Ageing Enterprise’. Part of a symposium sponsored by the Women's Issues Interest Group.
