Abstract. The effect of some factors on relationships between milk urea levels and fertility of 19 028 cows was analysed. The generalized linear model (GLM) of the SAS package (SAS 2004) was used in the statistical calculations. The increase in milk urea concentration was found to increase calving interval (r=0.05, P≤0.01), rest period (r=0.07, P≤0.01), service period (r=0.01, P≤0.01) and the number of services per conception (r=0.02, P≤0.01). Therefore, dairy breeders may find it advantageous to monitor urea concentrations, which could help to improve cow fertility. Herd milk production level, age of cow and lactation period were the factors that had the greatest effect on the relationship between milk urea levels and cow fertility parameters. The relationship between milk urea level and fertility was stronger in cows from herds with >6 000 kg milk yield, in first-calf heifers and in cows at 3 months of lactation.

This study was conducted to evaluate fertility grade of Friesian Holstein cows based on milk urea levels. A number of eight cows which fulfill the criteria of not pregnant and in second to sixth lactation, produced milk of 2.5 liters/day, and body weight ranging from 400-450 kg were used in this research. The cows were given fodder that consisted of 30 kg of forage and 10 kg of a mixture of concentrate (pollard, pulp out, and molasses), in the morning and afternoon. Milk and blood samples were taken once a week for five weeks in the morning before fed. Milk urea levels were measured using the urea FS (DiaSys) and blood samples were tested using enzyme linked immuno-sorbent assay (ELISA) with the progesterone hormone kit (DRG, Germany). The variables measured were pregnancy rate, service per conception (S/C), days open, and progesterone levels. Reproduction and milk urea levels data were analyzed by linear regression to determine the relationship between two variables. Progesterone data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the average calving interval, days open, and S/C were 607.5±170.27 days; 341.25±187.65 days; and 2.41±2.32 days, respectively. The average of milk urea levels was 14.16±2.55 mg/dL. Regression analysis showed a significant effect (P<0.05) and negative correlation between milk urea level and S/C. The average of non-pregnant progesterone hormone level was 12.04±7.13 ng/mL. In conclusion, the fertility grade of Friesian Holstein cows decreased when the milk urea level at 14.16 mg/dL and non-pregnant progesterone at 12.04±7.13 ng/mL.

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between milk production of PFH dairy cows with BCS at the first lactation at BBPTU HPT Baturraden. The study was conducted from March 20 to April 20 2018, with research material consisting of 250 production data records and 250 BCS data records that were corrected in lactation months 1 to 10 originating from BBPTU HPT Baturraden. Data analysis shows that milk production has a close relationship with lactation month, the results are shown by the equation y = -0.1223x2 + 0.6068x + 13.493 with R2 of 0.97. These results are reflected in the milk production curve which shows in the first month to the third month that there is an increase in milk production, with peak production being reached in the third month. Average peak milk production is 14.74 liters / head / day and average milk production Daily 12.12 liters / head / day. The results of the BCS analysis show that BCS has a close relationship with the lactation month, the results are shown by the equation y = 2.9133 + 0.0132x2 + 0.0365x shown with R2 of 0.95. The results on the BCS graph show that BCS is increasing as the lactation period progresses, the largest average BCS is obtained 3.79 in the 10th month. The relationship between milk production and BCS based on the analysis shows the equation y = -3,9224x2 + 18,894x - 7,6087, indicated by an R2 of 0.98.

SUMMARYThe records of 453260 British Friesian cows, accumulated by the Milk Marketing Board of England and Wales in 1981/82, were used to estimate the effect of the calving interval on milk production in the subsequent lactation. There was a clear relationship between the length of the dry period and the calving interval in which it occurred, such that the dry period was extended by 2·5 d for every 10 d extension of the calving interval. The relationship between the interval and milk production in the following lactation appeared more likely to be due to variation in the dry period than to variation in the calving interval itself. A dry period between 50 and 60 d was associated with maximum production of milk, fat and protein. Among cows with dry periods shorter than 55 d, fat and protein production increased by 8 and 3·5 kg/d respectively. For cows with dry periods longer than 55 d, production of fat and protein was reduced by 0·2 and 0·12 kg/d respectively. The modal calving interval was 355 d including a dry period of 51 d. The interval tended to increase with the age of the cow, at the rate of 3 d/month of age within parity. The best estimate of future calving intervals was the mean of all previous intervals of the cow.

The selection of animals at the lowest number of indicators is more effective compared to selection on many grounds. The main focus during the selection of Holstein cattle was to increase milk productivity, which meant the neglect of other important features, such as fertility (fecundity) of animals. The purpose of the work was to determine the level of milk productivity of cows of Ukrainian Black-and-White dairy breed in conditions of a particular farm, in which there would be a successful combination of reproductive capacity support for adjusting the selection of animals. The research was carried out in the breeding plant of the Ukrainian Black-and-White dairy breed of farm "Khliborob" of Kozyatinsky district of Vinnytsia region. The material of the research was the information of 212 first-calf cows of Ukrainian Black-and-White dairy breed of this farm. Indicators of dairy productivity were studied in 305 days of lactation according to zootechnical records. Reproductive ability of cows evaluated index insemination, age 1 st calving (months), duration (days) of service period, the period of pregnancy, the period between calving, the dry period, a rate of reproductive capacity (CRF), the calves are emitted per 100 cows (%) and the fertility index. The first-breed differentiation was carried out at a deviation of 0.7 σ from the mean of index (M) of the fertility index. Such a division makes it possible to divide the herd into 3 groups in a ratio of 1:2:1. The highest level of dairy productivity have characterized by animals of the I group with low fertility (the fertility index was on average 40.8), which significantly surpassed their peers of the III group with good fertility for the livelihood for 305 days of lactation for 434 kg, milk protein production – by 15.2 kg, total milk fat and protein production – by 26.0 kg (P ≤ 0.05). The increase in the duration of lactation and deterioration of fertility has associated with an increase in the duration of the service period, which is quite natural, since animals need more time to invade the genital organs and normalize their functioning and restore normal sexual cycle. The difference in the duration of the lactation period when comparing animals with different fertility in all cases was high-reliable at P ≤ 0.001 (td = 3.38–6.00). The effect of cow fertility on the duration of their lactation was ηx = 0.160 (at P ≤ 0.001). The main indicator that characterizes the economic efficiency of the industry is the profit received from the cow due to the receipt of the calfs and milk. Taking into account the duration of the service period, which exceeded the optimum terms, in the first days of the experimental groups, indicators of non-compliance of products in the form of calves per 100 cows were determined, which made 18.5%, 14.1% and 11.4% respectively. The force of influence on the fertility of cows at the age of their first calving was ηx = 0.507 (at P ≤ 0.001). According to the received data, the first-calf cows with a tiredness of 6274 kg of milk showed the highest calving output in the herd is for 100 cows (89.6%) and reproductive capacity (0.91). The lowest calf output (82.5%) and reproductive capacity (0.84) was found in cows with a milk yield of 6708 kg for 305 days of lactation. As the milk productivity increases, the duration of the service period extends from 123.1 to 158.3 days (r = 0.16 ± 0.07, at P ≤ 0.05), and the index of insemination – from 2.35 to 3,02 (r = 0.17 ± 0.08, at P ≤ 0.05). The relationship was straightforward and reliable. It is necessary to focus on improving cow fertility, which is the basis of effective milk production. For the successful management of dairy cattle breeding in the conditions of the "Hliborob" farm, we recommend to select the herds of heifers to be retrieved from animals with satisfactory fertility, since this will be economically beneficial for the farm and physiologically optimal for animals. A negative correlation was detected between milk productivity and reproductive capacity - with an increase in the fertility index per unit of hopes for cows, it would increase by 148.5 kg of milk. Under existing conditions of feeding and keeping on the farm it is expedient to select for further breeding of animals with a productivity level of 6.5 thousand kg of milk for 305 days of lactation. For a more complete realization of the genetic potential of milk production of cows of Ukrainian Black-and-White milk, it is necessary to improve the conditions of their feeding, maintenance.

The level of udder inflammation is one of the factors that can affect the production and quality of cow's milk. This study was aimed to determine the relationship between milk production and quality produced by mastitis cows. The material used was 30 Friesian Holstein (FH) dairy cows with a lactation period of III-V and a lactation month of 3-4. Inflammation degree of the mammary gland was determined by the California mastitis test (X1) and somatic cell count (X2) with a breed method relationship between milk production (Y1) or milk quality (fat: Y2, protein: Y3, and lactose: Y4) were determined by the multiple linear regression. The results showed that 30% of the udder quarter were healthy while 70% of the udder quarter were infected with mastitis with different levels of inflammation. There was a strong negative correlation (P 0,05; r = 0.740) between milk production, CMT and SCC score with Y1 = 16.126 - 3.064X1 - 0.001X2. Moreover, the correlation between milk production and milk quality (fat, protein, lactose) also showed a strong negative linear correlation (P 0,05) with the equation Y2 = 3.481 - 0.157X1 - 0.000X2 (r = 0.739), Y3 = 3.048 - 0.124X1 - 0.000X2 (r = 0.653) and Y4 = 4.605 - 0.106X1 - 0.001X2 (r = 0.623). In conclusion, the increased mammary inflammation level will result the decrease in milk production and milk quality.

The objective of the present study was to explore the effect of the level of inbreeding on milk efficiency of cows and on the content of milk components (fat and protein) in the 1st standard lactation period (305 days). The level of inbreeding (Fx) of inbred cows ranged between 1.25 and 12.5%. Efficiency parame- ters of inbred cows were compared with their contemporaries – half-sisters after the father (n=2567), raised on the same farm whose first lactation ended in same year. Out of the total database (567,036 cows) created in 1980–2002 we incorporated 885 inbred cows. To allow detailed analyses the inbred cows were divided into 3 groups according to the coefficient Fx (1.5–2.3%, 3.0–5.0% and 8.0–12.5%). The database was evaluated using the analysis of variance with 8 fixed effects including the commercial type, own breeding value and breeding value of mother, average efficiency of mother, reproduction parameters (year and age at calving and interval between the 1st and 2nd lactation) and total number of lactations. The statistical programme SAS 8.2 – GLM procedure (Copyright c 1999–2001 by SAS Institute Inc., Cary, NC, USA) was used for statistical analyses. Compared to their contemporaries the 323 kg reduction of milk production of inbred cows with the lowest value of Fx (1.5–2.3%) was insignificant; the decrease in the relative content of fat and protein was insignificant by 0.01 and 0.02%, respectively. Comparisons between contemporaries and inbred cows with Fx at the level of 3.0–5.0% showed a highly significant 407 kg reduction in milk efficiency. The fat content in milk of inbred cows increased by 0.11% (p<0.01) and the protein content by 0.03% (p<0.05) compared to their contemporaries. The reduction in milk production of inbred cows with the highest level of Fx (8.0–12.5%) was significant, i.e. –572 kg; the fat content increased insignificantly by 0.02%, while the protein content was the same in inbred cows and contemporaries. Comparisons of the milk production of inbred cows at various levels of Fx, taking into consideration the fixed effects, showed that the differences were most marked between groups Fx=1.5–2.3% and Fx=8.0–12.5%; the reduction in milk efficiency was –731 kg. A Fx coefficient higher by 1% reduced the milk efficiency of cows by 90.07 kg, while the fat and protein content increased by 0.001% and 0.002%, respectively.

Milk productivity of cows depends on the duration of the service period. Thus, with an increase of the service period from 60 to 121 days after the first calving, milk productivity of cows increases by 937 kg (P≥0.95), after the second calving - by 745 kg and after the third calving - by 926 kg (P≥0.95). Cows with a service period of less than 60 days had the lowest milk productivity of 6751 kg. Cows with a service period of more than 120 days gave 7688-8251 kg of milk. Milk productivity of cows is also influenced by the length of the dry period. Too short, as well as too long dry period has a negative effect on milk productivity. So, cows with a dry period of less than 40 days gave an average of 7011 kg of milk, with an increase of the dry period, milk productivity parameters increase. Cows with a dry period of 41-50 days produced 7465 kg, with a dry period of 51-60 days - 7785 kg, with an increase of the dry period from 61 to 70 days milk productivity increased to 8042 kg, finally, dry period of over 70 days leads to a decrease of milk productivity of cows up to 7211 kg. In terms of the calving interval, the experimental cows corresponded to the parameters of highly productive cows, being within the period of 12-14 months. The analysis of reproductive ability showed that the animals have average values for reproductive ability.
