The purpose of this study was to determine smartphone addiction and leisure boredom perception levels in ice hockey players in Turkey, examine them in terms of age, sex and educational level, and investigate the correlation between smartphone addiction and leisure boredom perception. The population of the study consisted of athletes actively playing in ice hockey leagues in Turkey. The sample group comprised a total of 85 athletes (51 males and 34 females) who were selected randomly from the population and were voluntary to participate in the study. In the study, a questionnaire with three sections was used as the data collection tool. The first section of the questionnaire was a personal information form prepared by the researcher to determine the age, sex, and educational background of the participants. In the second section of the questionnaire, the Smartphone Addiction Scale-Short Version (SAS-SV) was used for measuring the smartphone addiction levels of the participants. In the third and last section of the questionnaire, the Leisure Boredom Scale (LBS) was used for determining the leisure boredom perception of the participants. In the data assessment, the SPSS 26 package software was used. After transferring the data collected via the data collection tool into the electronic environment, the normality was first tested and then non-parametric analyses were performed upon detecting that the data were not normally distributed. When examining the findings of the study, it was observed that most of the participants were male, had high school education and below and were aged 15 to 17 years. In addition, the mean scores of the participants were higher in the Leisure Boredom Scale Boredom Subscale, moderate in the Leisure Boredom Scale Satisfaction Subscale and higher in the Smartphone Addiction Scale-Short Version. It was determined that the female participants had higher mean ranks in the Leisure Boredom Scale Boredom Subscale compared to the male participants at a statistically significant level. When examining the correlation between the smartphone addiction and leisure boredom perception of the participants, it was also observed that there was a statistically significant, positive, and weak correlation between the smartphone addiction and the boredom subscale of the leisure boredom perception.

Students who receive architectural education are expected to be individuals who can think critically. For this reason, it becomes a necessity to cultivate creative individuals who are curious, inquiring and multi-faceted thinkers. The aim of this research was to determine the levels of tendency for critical thinking of first-year and fourth-year architecture students. The research sample consisted of 88 (54 females, 34 males) first-year and 83 (47 females, 36 males) fourth-year students who are studying at Karadeniz Technical University, Faculty of Architecture, Department of Architecture. The "California Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory (CCTDI)" was used as data collection tool in the research. In addition, information about the demographic characteristics of students were collected through the Personal Information Form. Findings of the research showed that there was no statistically significant difference between the GPAs and critical thinking tendency levels of the first-year and fourth-year students. It can be argued that all students need some guidance to attach importance on critical thinking starting from the first year of the program. Keywords: academic achievement, architectural students, critical thinking, critical thinking tendency.

This study aims to analyze participation motivation of the students studying in the department of Physical education and Sports teaching. The study population consists of 160 students from the Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching in Kazım Karabekir Faculty of Education at Atatürk University in the 2019-2020 academic year. The study sample is 99 students out of 160 students by choosing the random sampling method. A form consisting of two parts has been used as a data collection tool in the study. In the first part of the data collection tool, there is a personal information form, including the students’ age, gender, and sports information branch. In the second part, participation motivation questionnaire has been used. Normal distribution criteria have been controlled using Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk tests in the obtained data. Non-parametric tests have been used in the next stage’s statistical analysis. While comparisons of gender and sports type have been fulfilled with the Mann Whitney-U test, the Kruskal Wallis test has been used for the age variable. Consequently, it has been observed that the most crucial reason directing students to sports is “skill development” and the least important reason is “friends”. When looking at the values obtained from the Participation Motivation Questionnaire by gender, it is evident that there is no statistically significant difference according to the scores obtained by male and female students from the sub-dimensions of the scale.
