Cold laser therapy has been largely utilized to enhance wound healing caused by several bio stimulatory characteristics conferred via laser rays obviously capable towards stimulate the restoration of flexible tissues wounds. Notwithstanding, the performance of pro-inflammatory interleukins has not been investigated yet. Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) represents an individual of largely imperative proinflammatory cytokines, which could be concerned in wounds therapeutic. The target of this work was to investigate the influence of a 980nm laser on the IL-1β expression and its secretion in wound healing in laboratory mice. Wounds with a standard-sized of 2cm have been carried out on the face of forty-laboratory mice. Animals have been divided into two groups; half of them undergo cold laser treatment at 980 nm, continuous illuminations, output power 5 W, beam spot area at the target had 0.7 cm2, and an energy density had 643 J/cm2 delivered without delay after wounds procedure. Furthermore, the other half of the animals had been set up as a control group. Next, the animals have been divided into four groups interconnected to the healing time intervals. A repairing operation area has been uprooting and further stained by the immunohistochemistry method towards identifying the appearance of (IL-1β). Cold laser therapy has proficient to amplify the appearance of (IL-1β) near the beginning of healing stages plus boosting epithelialization remodeling procedure within one to two weeks of healing time. Cold laser therapy tested in this work resulted in enlarged expressions of (IL-1β) in the laser treatment group considerably next to one week of healing time, which has an effect on wound healing. The aim of this paper was to evaluate the effect of using artificial dermis matrix plus autologous split-thickness skin (ADM and ASTS) in the treatment of deep-burns in hands of severely burned patients? We recruited a total of 58 patients with large area burns greater than 80% that were eschar-excised. Twenty-eight of them were treated with ADM and ASTS (test group); 30 were treated with autologous medium-thickness skin (AMTS) (control group). The healing time of the hand wound was noted, clinical and photographic evaluations were performed, and a Jebsen-Taylor hand function test was compared and analyzed in the two groups. The wound healing time in the test group (24.22?3.34 days) were longer than that of the control group (13.42?3.36 days) and statistically significant. The healing time of skin graft donor sites was shorter than that of the control group (7.14?1.63 vs. 14.28?2.37 days) and statistically significant (P<0.05). The 3rd and 6th month follow-up with clinical and functional evaluations revealed no differences between the two groups. In addition, there was no obvious scar formation and less pigmentation in either group. The repair of deeply burned hands with artificial dermis matrix was beneficial to both wound healing and the donor site, and was beneficial to the whole body rehabilitation of severely burned patients.

Abstract Background The lower third of the nose is one of the most important cosmetic units of the face, and its reconstructive techniques remain a big challenge. As an alternative approach to repair or regenerate the nasal tissue, the biomaterial-based strategy has been extensively investigated. The aim of this study is to determine the safety and efficacy of human acellular amniotic membrane (HAAM) to repair the full-thickness defects in the lower third of the nose in humans. Methods In this study, 180 patients who underwent excision of skin lesions of the lower third of the nose from 2012 to 2016 were included; of the patients, 92 received HAAM and Vaseline gauze treatments, and the other 88 patients received Vaseline gauze treatment only. The haemostasis time and the duration of operation were recorded during surgery; after surgery, the time to pain disappearance, scab formation and wound healing, and the wound healing rate were measured. Results Immediately after the HAAM implantation, a reduction of the haemostasis time and an accelerated disappearance of pain were observed. Compared with the control group, the formation and detachment of scab in patients who received the HAAM implantation were notably accelerated, postoperatively. When the diameter of the lesion exceeded 5 mm, the HAAM implantation was found to enhance the wound healing, although this enhancement was not seen when the diameter was less than 5 mm. Additionally, the HAAM implantation significantly reduced bleeding, wound infection and scar formation, postoperatively. Conclusions HAAM-assisted healing is a promising therapy for lower third nasal reconstruction leading to rapid wound healing and fewer complications and thus has considerable potential for extensive clinical application in repairing skin wounds. Acupuncture regulates inflammation process and growth factors by increasing blood circulation in affected areas. In this study, we examined whether acupuncture has an effect on wound healing in injured rat. Rats were assigned randomly into two groups: control group and acupuncture group. Acupuncture treatment was carried out at 8 sites around the wounded area. We analyzed the wound area, inflammatory cytokines, proliferation of resident cells, and angiogenesis and induction of extracelluar matrix remodeling. At 7 days after-wounding the wound size in acupuncture-treat group was decreased more significantly compared to control group. In addition, the protein levels of proinflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) and interleukin-1β(IL-1β) were significantly decreased compared to the control at 2 and 7 days post-wounding. Also, we analyzed newly generated cells by performing immunostaining for PCNA and using several phenotype markers such as CD-31,α-SMA, and collagen type I. In acupuncture-treated group, PCNA-positive cell was increased and PCNA labeled CD-31-positive vessels,α-SMA- and collagen type I-positive fibroblastic cells, were increased compared to the control group at 7 days post-wounding. These results suggest that acupuncture may improve wound healing through decreasing pro-inflammatory response, increasing cell proliferation and angiogenesis, and inducing extracellular matrix remodeling.

Low-intensity laser therapy aims at pain suppression, edema reduction and acceleration of wound healing. The main goal of this study was to clinically evaluate the effects of Aluminum Gallium Arsenate laser - 670nm in wound healing after gingivoplasty in 11 patients. Surgery was performed in anterior superior and/or inferior regions. The right side of the patient (test group) received a laser energy density of 4J/cm², in a 48-hour interval, during one week, totalizing four sessions. The irradiation was punctual in a contact mode in three points. The left side did not receive irradiation (control group). Clinical evaluation was performed by five specialists in periodontology through photography of the treated areas at post-surgical periods of 7, 15, 21,30,60 days. The observers pointed the best healed side. The Sign test was used for statistical analysis with a confidence level of 5% (P<0.05). The examiners found a better pattern of healing sometimes in the test and sometimes in the control group until 21 days after surgery. After this period there was no apparent difference between them. There was no statistical difference between the sides (p>0.05). These results have shown that low-intensity laser therapy did not accelerate oral mucosa healing after gingivoplasty.

Widespread use of surgical interventions in the abdomen of dogs determines the relevance of the study. The research tested the influence of therapeutic epidural blockade with 0.2% bupivacaine after surgical interventions on the background of potentiated local anaesthesia on the body of clinically healthy dogs undergoing ovariohysterectomy. In the control group postoperative analgesia was performed with the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug rimadyl on the background of potentiated thiopental anaesthesia. Wound healing rates were determined in 10 animals of both control and experimental groups; blood counts and the level of inflammatory response were indicated in 5 animals of each group. The dynamics of reparative processes and complete wound healing in dogs of the experimental group occurred earlier than in animals of the control group, which confirmed the fact that the use of bupivacaine had a beneficial effect on tissue regeneration. The results of morphological and biochemical parameters of blood in animals of the experimental group manifested only an increase of leukocytes by 1.58 times, fibrinogen by 2.02 times, while in dogs of the control group the level of erythrocytes, haemoglobin and hematocrit decreased, leukocytes increased by 1.74 times, platelets decreased by 2.87 times and fibrinogen increased by 1.72 times. Among the stress response markers in the control group there was a 1.94 times increase in glucose level after surgery. In the experimental group there was a decrease in the intensity of the inflammatory reaction in dogs, accompanied by an increase of anti-inflammatory interleukin 4 (IL-4) only on the seventh day – 1.86 times, while in the control group the level of anti-inflammatory interleukin 1 receptor antagonist (IL-1RA) after three days increased by 2.30 times, after seven days – by 2.48 times, and the level of proinflammatory interleukin 6 (IL-6) after surgery increased by 2.57 times. It will be promising to conduct further research on the influence of therapeutic blockades with bupivacaine in animals in cases of various surgical interventions and pathological conditions, which will lead to faster recovery of animals and alleviate pathological processes.

Abstract Background: Hydrogen-rich water (HRW) has been shown to be one of underlying therapeutic strategies regarding wound treatments. This study explored the effects of drinking HRW on skin wound healing in dogs. Eight circular wounds were analyzed in each dog. The experimental group was treated with HRW twice daily, while the control group was provided with distilled water (DW). The wound tissues of dogs examined histopathologically. The fibroblasts, inflammatory cell infiltration, the average number of new blood vessels, and the level of malondialdehyde (MDA) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity in the skin homogenate of the wound was measured using the corresponding kits. The expression of Nrf-2, HO-1, NQO-1, VEGF, and PDGF were measured by real-time fluorescence quantitative method. Results: We observed that HRW wound had significant average healing rate and faster average healing time. Histopathological results showed that the average number of blood vessels and the average thickness of epidermis were significantly different from the DW group. The MDA levels were higher in the DW group than in the HRW group but the SOD levels were higher in the HRW group than in the DW group. The results of qRT-PCR showed that the expression of each gene was significantly different between the two groups. Conclusions: The results showed that HRW treatment could promote skin wound healing in dogs, accelerate wound epithelization, reduce inflammatory reaction, stimulate the expression of cytokines related to wound healing, and shorten wound healing time.

Objectives. Laser therapy is a promising new treatment for patients with recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS). However, the clinical effect and security issue of laser therapy remain controversial. This systematic review was conducted to evaluate the clinical effectiveness and security of laser treatment in RAS patients. Methods. Five electronic databases were searched (MEDLINE (PubMed), EMBASE, ScienceDirect, the Cochrane Library, and Web of Science) to identify all studies that were about randomized controlled clinical trials, involving the effect of laser therapy in RAS patients. Conclusion. Twenty-three studies were retained for full-text analysis after screening the titles and abstracts of potential articles, but only 10 studies satisfied the inclusion criteria after the full texts were reviewed. The included studies reported a comparison of the effectiveness between the laser treatment and placebo laser therapy (or conventional drug therapy) when managing the RAS patients. It can be concluded that laser therapy has the superiority in relieving ulcer pain and shortening healing time when compared with placebo group or medical treatment group. Although laser therapy is a promising effective treatment for RAS, high-quality clinical studies with large sample size must be further performed to confirm the effectiveness of this therapy.

BACKGROUND: Minor recurrent aphthous stomatitis (MiRAS) is one of the most common, recurrent, and painful mucosal pathological condition. It is characterised by round or shallow oval ulcers, less than 10 mm in diameter, surrounded by a thin erythematous halo. It involves non-keratinized mucosa such as the labial and buccal mucosa, the ventral surface or borders of the tongue and the floor of the mouth, but it is uncommon to occur on the keratinised mucosa. It heals spontaneously within 10-14 days without scarring. There is no curative remedy to prevent its recurrence; also, available modalities only reduce the symptoms and severity of the lesion. AIM: Since these lesions may be extremely painful, we decided to estimate the pain-relieving and healing properties of low energy level laser therapy using diode laser 660 nm on MiRAS. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Twenty healthy patients suffering from minor aphthous ulcers were randomly selected from the Out-Patient Clinic of Oral Medicine Department, Faculty of Dentistry, Alexandria University. They were equally divided into two groups, study group who received 660 nm diode laser irradiation while the control group received placebo (sodium bicarbonate rinse). The visual analogue scale, size reduction, effectiveness indices and functional disorders were compared between the groups. RESULTS: Both groups presented a statistically significant difference from baseline to follow up periods. But, diode laser 660 nm treatment showed more remarkable improvements in reduction of healing time, pain and lesion size. CONCLUSION: We concluded that diode laser 660 nm should be further considered as an effective alternative therapeutic regimen to patients who suffer from recurrent aphthous stomatitis.
