The development of professional theriological publications in Ukraine published by the Ukrainian Theriological Society of NAS of Ukraine during 1998–2020 is considered. During these two decades, theriological publications, which began to develop as sets of preprints (1987, 1990, and 1992) and collections of scientific works of the Society (1988 and 1993), grew into thematic issues of the series Proceedings of the Theological School (1998–2010). The latter had no professional status, and therefore materials of theriological conferences and collections of scientific papers were published under the auspices of other issues with the appropriate status (2002–2011), primarily scientific bulletins of universities that participated in the organisation of annual workshops. In 2016 (vol. 14), the Proceedings of the Theriological School received the status of a professional issue, and since 2018 it has been published semi-annually under the title Theriologia Ukrainica with new ISSN and DOI registrations of all articles.

The bibliography brings together more than 250 scientific papers and books written by Alwyne (Wyn) Wheeler over fifty years, from 1955–2006. This chronological list shows that from the beginning his research followed three themes: taxonomy of historically important fish collections; identification and distribution of the British and European fish fauna ; the status of British fishes in a changing environment. Until the mid-point in Wyn's career he published regularly on the identification of fish remains in archaeological sites in Britain and Europe. Wyn also wrote under an alias, Allan Cooper, and these have been listed separately. The bibliography concludes with a selection of the regular columns he contributed to angling magazines.

Adapted physical activity (APA) is characterized by a strong orientation to professional practice. Currently, there exists limited empirical research about the professional status of APA in the context of rehabilitation. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to describe and understand the professional status, role, and work tasks of APA specialists in Norway. For the purpose of the study, the authors conducted group interviews with APA specialists and individual interviews with unit leaders at six rehabilitation institutions in the national specialist health care services. The results highlight the content of the work tasks, the roles in the cross-professional teams, the status in the institutions, and what the participants perceive to be the knowledge base for their profession. Although these results may be specific to the Norwegian context, the authors also discuss possible implications of their findings for APA in an international perspective.

The question of whether teaching is a profession, with all the status and responsibilities that entails, is not as settled as some believe. Emma García and Elaine Weiss look at the requirements and characteristics of a profession and examine data from teachers and find that teaching, as currently experienced by teachers, does not measure up to the traits of a profession, though it would merit the status,. Although teaching has credentialing requirements, many teachers lack the credentials associated with effectiveness. In addition, teachers do not receive the professional support needed to grow professionally, and they lack the societal respect and influence other professions enjoy. Teachers also receive lower pay than their peers, and many experience emotionally and physically damaging work environments.

This article reports on a study of Australian men and their accounts of living and working in Japan as English language teachers. In this site, recent research has explored Japanese discourses of desire for the West, Western men, and English language learning. These patterns of desire have afforded white Western men a privileged personal and professional status in Japan, and enabled access to employment opportunities as teachers of English language. At the same time, white Western men working as English language teachers face the challenge of negotiating competing discourses that threaten their social status. In particular, their employment in a lowly-regarded profession and a reputation for sexual promiscuity potentially position Western male language teachers as the ‘white trash’ of Asia. My analysis of interview data focuses on the ways in which the men negotiate these discourses, and construct ‘respectable’ Western heterosexual masculinities by mobilising a binary distinction between singleness and marriage. Marriage to a Japanese spouse is presented as a bulwark against alignment with problematic discourses that threaten the status of white masculinity: it is associated with fidelity and maturity, and with integration into Japanese social, linguistic and professional communities. However, the articulation of marital status also reinforces a marginalised position for teachers who do not conform to heteronormative expectations.

Chapter 6 draws together the findings of the previous chapters to explore the status of fundraising work: is it a profession, a job, a calling or a vocation? This chapter begins by reviewing the debate on professionalism, exploring the different ways this concept is defined and why professional status matters, before discussing claims for and against counting fundraising as a profession. In the absence of defining traits of a profession (such as a verifiable, agreed body of knowledge and formal qualifications after extended study), and the absence of a public consensus that the value and caliber of fundraising expertise deserves the status of a profession, it is suggested that fundraising is instead best understood as a ‘creative profession’. As contemporary fundraising involves a combination of creative innovation and managerial skills, and as fundraisers possess many of the traits commonly found in the creative class such as passion, openness, ability to synthesise, non-conformity and internal motivation, it is argued that fundraisers can accurately be described as a type of creative professional.

Sweden was the first country in Europe to introduce compulsory sex education into school curricula as early as 1955. It is nowadays integrated in the education systems of many European countries. Is the contemporary approach to sex education realistic in Serbia, as well? In other words, has the state modernised its education system and adapted it to the present-day requirements and needs in this field? With that respect, the paper considers a number of topics related to sex education: contemporary definition of the concept, respect of the relevant human rights, new needs for this type of information, the implementation principles, barriers and models in the European countries, the role of schools, health care institutions and the media, as well as the good practices in Europe. Besides the research results published in scientific papers, important inputs for consideration of the above topics were also taken from the relevant studies of the World Health Organisation, the International Planned Parenthood Federation and the European Society of Contraception and Reproductive Health. This has provided the basis for the status assessment and the formulation of expectations with regard to the implementation of youth sex education in Serbia. The emphasis is on working with youth as the key target group for education in this field, although sex education is significant in all stages of life.

LPTK as a producer of educators must be proactive towards a world-class higher education (world class university / WCU). The study was conducted in 2014. The results of this study by using a number of criteria indicate that LPTK has shown dynamics to strive towards world universities. Yet the dynamics are still small and limited, because faced with a certain number of constraints, namely (1) the lack of academic qualifications of teaching staff come from overseas graduates, as required as one of the criteria towards WCU; (2) improving the quality of lecturers is often hindered by foreign language skills, the elderly, funding, and limited provider institution quality graduate programs; (3) sending lecturers to continue their studies abroad are still hanging from the directorate Higher Education; (4) the submission of budgetary limitations that do not provide the flexibility to call / use a guest lecturer / adjunct lecturer who come from abroad; (5) there are many new courses that achieve accreditation status B / C in the assessment of BAN PT, so they concentrated on improving the status of accreditation of the study programs; (6) the reliance fund / budget delivery of education LPTK against the government (APBN), so the lack of flexibility in allocating funds specifically aimed at supporting the WCU program; (7) the appointment of a lecturer / lecturer in LPTK are insufficient to meet the needs, especially in terms of the angle ratio of the number of faculty and students; and (8) lack of journals in college container itself or else outside an accredited institution of national / international lecturers publish scientific papers. Keywords : higher education, LPTK, dynamics, world class university
