In today's fast changing world, where knowledge relevant today can became obsolete tomorrow, higher education institutions are putting great efforts into empowering students to be able to meet demands of the employers from the start. Besides the phenomena of the fast-changing needs for new knowledge, which should be included in curricula, there is the challenge of training students to have adequate skills necessary for doing business in the 21st century. Those skills, soft and generic should allow students to be able to cope more efficiently and effectively with the changes and demands of the contemporary business environment. The research subject of this paper is the perception of the business environment, i.e. employers, on the importance of knowledge and skills in the field of business economics that students of business schools acquire during undergraduate studies. The research goal is to gain a comprehensive and detailed insight into the opinion of the employers on the knowledge and skills they consider most important for the employment of undergraduate students of business schools. In addition, the aim is to articulate the types of activities and forms of cooperation with companies that, in the opinion of employers, can contribute to greater harmonization of the content of study programs in the field of business economics with the needs of practice. The research starts from the specifics of business economics studies in business schools, since this type of study differs from academic studies primarily in terms of training students in applied knowledge.

Knowledge and skills have become the most crucial resource capital which enables organizations to survive in the ever changing business environment. One of the common strategies for organizations to increase their performance and productivity is through training and the main role of human resource development is to fulfil the needs of the organizations by providing employees with up to date expertise, information, knowledge and skills. Since huge financial investments and enormous time are allocated for training, organizations hope that the training will lead to the desired workoutcomes. However, this does not always happen. There is only a small percentage of training programs which had successfully shown lasting transferability to the workplace and this indicates thatunderstanding and improving the training transfer process is still a major concern for training researchers and practitioners. As training transfer is influenced by several variables at different levels of analysis, this study attempts to investigate the relationship between training transfer determinants, the involvement of different stakeholders and training activities in the training process. Specifically, this study investigates the influence of training transfer determinants on goal setting amongst small businesswomen. In addition, it will emphasize the roles of primary stakeholders in the social networkat different times during the training process towards achieving training transfer. Therefore, the framework postulates social networks as a moderating variable in enhancing training transfer andgoal setting amongst small businesswomen.

AbstractSome scholars assert that entrepreneurship has attained “considerable” legitimacy. Others assert that it “is still fighting” for complete acceptance. This study explores the question, extrapolating from studies of an “elite effect” in which the publications of the highest ranked schools differ from other research-intensive schools. The most elite business schools in the USA, but not the UK, are found to allocate significantly more publications to mathematically sophisticated “analytical” fields such as economics and finance, rather than entrepreneurship and other “managerial” fields. The US elites do not look down upon entrepreneurship as such. They look down upon journals that lack high mathematics content. Leading entrepreneurship journals, except Small Business Economics Journal (SBEJ), are particularly lacking. The conclusion argues that SBEJ can help the field’s legitimacy, but that other journals should not imitate analytical paradigms.Plain English Summary Academic snobs shun entrepreneurship journals. A goal for snobs is to exhibit superiority over others. For business professors, one way to do this is with mathematically sophisticated, analytical publications. Entrepreneurship journals, Small Business Economics excepted, do this relatively infrequently. These journals focus on the lives, activities, and challenges of diverse entrepreneurs. In the USA, the most elite business schools, compared with not-quite elite business schools, allocate significantly more of their articles to the journals of analytical fields such as economics, and fewer to entrepreneurship journals. This pattern is not found in the UK, where elites may have other ways to signal superiority. These elites, who accommodate entrepreneurship researchers, could pioneer with outputs of both relevance and scholarly quality, through collaboration between their practice-based and research-based professors.

The use of technology in UT instructional media allows students of the Open University of Indonesia (Universitas Terbuka, UT) to improve their knowledge and skills without being hampered by distance, space, and time. This study explored the perception of UT alumni and stakeholders about the benefit of using information and communication technology (ICT) and learning media obtained during their study period in UT. The information was gathered from a tracer study conducted in 2008, which was used to evaluate 5 study programs at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Educational Science in the use of ICT and instructional media. The data were collected from 37 UT regional offices through questionnaires to a sample of alumni teachers and their principals, as well as interviews with selected alumni and stakeholders. According to the surveys and interviews, both alumni and stakeholders perceived that alumni had improved in their knowledge and skills of ICT and learning media. However, according to alumni perceptions, the knowledge and skills they had learned from UT were relatively low. On the other hand, stakeholders perceived that the alumni had good knowledge and skills of ICT and learning media. We argue that differences in perception between alumni and stakeholders result from different experiences and expectations on the part of each group.

s not it deplorable that in a country that tops in the entire world in using several social media sites does not utilize the same media in acquiring knowledge and skills? In Saudi Arabia, undergraduate students spend a significant amount of time on social media every day, but they are reluctant (or not motivated enough) to use the same media for educational purposes. This study was carried out on the undergraduate English majors of King Khalid University in Muhayil Asir in Saudi Arabia. In the English department, every student carries at least one smart phone with Internet connection, and they are found occupied with their phones on the campus, sometimes even in classrooms, but they are weak both in subject knowledge and skills of English language. The teachers-cum-researchers were baffled with students’ competence because regular users of Internet and social media are supposed to be updated with the subject knowledge as well as confident in using English language. The researchers designed an empirical study to explore students’ rationale of using the social media and their language preference. The study concludes with gloomy findings that students use the media mainly for entertainment and ineffective communication in English language. The worst fact is: they are not motivated enough to use the social media for educational purposes.

In recent years, the concept of national competitiveness and favourable business environment is broadly associated with economic development. The countries are increasingly paying attention to their competitiveness on global markets by promoting national programs and founding institutions aimed at tackling competitiveness issues. A number of leading international organizations, research institutes and business entities carry out global comparative studies on nation’s competitiveness. However, the global competitiveness ranking results are often inconsistent with economic trends. This raises a question whether the international competitiveness ran kings provide a proper guidance for an individual economy in improving the business environment. The paper aims at revealing the factors behind the discrepancies in evaluating a national competitiveness by international institutions and national agents. The analysis is based on the datasets of two influential publications - Doing Business (the World Bank) and Global Competitiveness Report (World Economic Forum). The study was enriched by a questionnaire, specially tailored to assess the most problematic issues in measuring the business and investment environment. The research has shown that the international comparisons only partially correspond to the national perception of competitiveness. The paper also addresses policy insights for enhancing Lithuania’s competitiveness.

Planning and conducting the audit of financial statements involves understanding the entity and the environment in which it operates.  First and foremost this requires identifying the risks faced by the entity.  Identifying these risks can be a complex and difficult task since the auditor needs to not only understand the entity’s risk process but also independently understand the risks facing the firm.  Tackling this task will involve a comprehensive review of the external and internal factors affecting the business.  It is possible many identified business risks are related to financial reporting risk and ultimately to audit risk.  Therefore, the auditor must understand the linkage between risks, controls and the audit.  The objective of this paper is to examine the risks faced by U.S. companies conducting business in China.  This paper attempts to identify a wide array of risks faced by U.S. companies to demonstrate how important it is for the company and the auditor to understand the business environment.

The article aims to present Afghanistan’s business environment and elaborates on the huge potential for investment in an uncertain place. A number of literatures has been reviewed from different international and government-related institutions and also quoted government high-level officials to identify these potentials and uncertainties. The review of the studies and research by international institutions suggests that the government of Afghanistan is actively working to prepare a business-friendly environment for domestic and foreign investors. However, political instability, lack of electricity, crime, theft and disorder, access to land and corruption still remains as the major constraints of doing business in Afghanistan. It is a fact that reviving Afghanistan’s business environment in this critical situation of conflict, declining international aid, and ongoing political chaos can be extremely difficult. However, reviving its business environment and utilizing the opportunities cannot wait for the end of the ongoing conflict and current political uncertainty. What Afghanistan needs to do is think creatively to recognize what can be done in the time of conflict and political uncertainty to take advantage from those opportunities. Although the extension of the article analysis requires more evidence to judge, the analysis challenges the general understanding of the business environment and points to important new avenues of research.

The article is devoted to the issues of actualization of problems and novelties in the context of theoretical and legal segments of the bankruptcy procedure. The activities of economic entities are influenced by external and internal factors, but the issues of their solution remain in most cases in the discussions of politicians, scientists and representatives of the business environment. The effectiveness of legal entities has recently proved that the application of bankruptcy proceedings has intensified. However, remediation issues do not always have and receive adequate support. The consequence of these phenomena is the cessation of activities not only of small and medium-sized businesses, but also of individual large businesses. The main task of modern enterprises on the verge of bankruptcy is to develop tools and tools that allow to predict and analyze potential crises, to design options for their resolution and the appropriate information and economic base of management. Practical entrepreneurial activity proves that a number of issues remain unresolved and need more in-depth research and attention. This phenomenon indicates the modernity and relevance of the study given the realities of the functioning of legal entities. The article draws attention to the legislative regulation of bankruptcy procedures, identifies the priorities of legislative initiatives. The question of the scientific position of scientists concerning the characteristic of the conceptual categories "bankruptcy" and "remediation" is investigated. The author's vision of the essential characteristics of these categories is given, the substantiation of expediency of their adaptation in activity of domestic enterprises is given. A package of anti-crisis management measures has been developed taking into account the current realities of doing business. Proposals for improving the legislative regulation from the standpoint of reorganization procedures are presented. The development, approval and adaptation of the "Regulations on the stages of remediation" is proposed. From the author's point of view, it is expedient to include in the structure of the legislative regulator: conceptual apparatus for reorganization procedure, definition of methods and techniques of evaluation of clearly defined criteria with establishment of their normative limits, coverage of monitoring procedures.
