The study compared the use of the lexical glossing and inferencing strategies that impact toward the students’ reading comprehension. The objective of the study was to find out the effective strategy to use for enhancing the students’ reading comprehension. The population of the study was 40 Informatics Systems students of Potensi Utama University. The data collection was used written test by comparing the scores results after giving the treatment. The written test was conducted to identify students’ reading comprehension performance toward the use of lexical glossing and inferencing strategies. The data was analyzed applying an experimental research design. There were two tests in this study before and after treatment. Before treatment without using the strategies, the first test was applied to first group and second group. After treatment with using the strategies, the second test was applied to the first and second group. The first group was taught using lexical glossing strategy, while the second group was treated using lexical inferencing strategies. The test resulted that the students in the second group using lexical inferencing strategies could guess the unfamiliar word meaning correctly that impact toward the students’ reading comprehension. While the students in the first group using the lexical glossing strategy make erroneous guesses about unfamiliar word meaning that impact on the students’ reading comprehension. Therefore, it can be concluded that lexical inferencing strategy was recommended to teach to enhance the students’ reading comprehension.

The aim of this study is to discover the effect of applying SQ3R method inreading comprehension. Experimental research design is used as the research method.This research took place at SMA Nasrani 2Medan. There were 2 classes chosen as thesample with 30 students in each class. The classes were divided into two groups namelyexperimental and control group. The experimental group was taught by using SQ3Rmethod and the control group was taught by using conventional method. The instrumentused to collect the data was a set of multiple choice tests, which divided as pre test andpost test. The result of the research was analyzed by using t-test formula. The resultshowed that t-test was higher than t-table (4,23>2,00) at the level of significant 0,05with degree of freedom (df) 58. It means that hypothesis alternative (Ha) is acceptedwhich shows that SQ3R method significantly improves the student’s readingcomprehension.

The purpose of this research is to determine students' reading comprehension skills before and after using the PQ4R learning model. This research was motivated by preliminary studies, which showed that students' reading comprehension skills are still low in conventional learning models. This is a quantitative research consisting of a one-group pretest-posttest research design. Data were obtained from 22 students of state elementary school 03 Sontas using a written test of 6 (six) questions. The research showed differences in students' reading comprehension skills before and after learning using the PQ4R model.

Some problems are faced by students in reading of English text. The interesting strategy is needed to teach them. Story Pyramid Strategyis one of strategies to teach reading comprehension. This strategy forces students to review and summarize the main points of a story. The research aimed at knowing the effectiveness of using story pyramid strategy in teaching  narrative text toward students’ reading comprehension was conducted in SMAN 1 Serang. The research design of this reseacrh was quasi experimental research with quantitative approach. The  research  finding  showed  that  Story Pyramid  Strategy  is  effective in  teaching  narrative  text  toward  students’ reading comprehension to Senior High School.

The purpose of this research is to prove the benefits of isotonic drinks promised by the manufacturers. This is a quasi-experimental research design involving 20 non-athlete male students. The data were analyzed using t-test.From the data analysis, it was found that there was a significant difference between aerobic endurance before and after drinking isotonic drinks, tobserve (5.398604) > ttable (1.729) at level significant α = 0.05. Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that isotonic drinks has a significant effect towards students’ aerobic endurance.

This study aims to determine the effect of image coloring activity on fine motor group B children in PAUD Bukit Selanjut Kelayang Sub-district Indragiri Hulu Regency. This research is an experimental research using one-group pretest-posttest design to know comparison before and after treatment. Subjects of this study amounted to 7 children, with the objects is the influence of picture coloring activities on motor fine capabilities of group B Children in PAUD Bukit Selanjut Kelayang Sub-district Indragiri Hulu Regency. The population of this research is students in kindergarten PAUD Bukit Selanjut Kelayang Sub-district Indragiri Hulu Regency amounting to 13 children, whith a sample of 7 children consisting  4 from a man dan 3 from a woman. The sample is done by purposive sampling technique, that is by determining the sample through certain consideration.  Data collection techniques used are test, observation and documentation. While the technique of data analysis using t-test test using SPSS Windows ver. 17. The results showed that thitung = 27,000 with Sig = 0,000. Because sig value <0,05 and thitung = 27,000 bigger than ttabel = 2,447, it can be concluded that there is significant influence after giving treatment in picture coloring activity. so Ho is rejected Ha accepted which means there is influence before and after being treated to fine motor abilities of children. The influence of picture coloring activity on fine motor ability of group B children in PAUD Bukit Selanjut Kelayang Sub-district Indragiri Hulu Regency is 56,25% (in medium category).Keywords: Smooth Motor Capability, Picture Coloring Activity

Abstract: This study was conducted to investigate the effect of lexical inferencing strategies on students’ reading comprehension. The purpose of the study was to find out whether the use of lexical inferencing strategies had effect on students’ reading comprehension. The population of this study was 90 Informatics Engineering students of Potensi Utama University in the fifth semester of 2014-2015 Academic Year. A placement test was given to 90 students to select 60 similar English proficiency level students. The instruments used for collecting data were written test and spoken test. These tests were conducted to identify students’ reading comprehension performance toward lexical inferencing strategies. These data were analyzed applying an experimental research design involving pre-test and post-test. A pre-test and post test were administered for control and experimental groups. The first, control group was taught using conventional method, while the second, experimental group was treated using lexical inferencing strategies. The results of the test showed that the use of the lexical inferencing strategies had significantly affected to students’ reading comprehension performance. Hence, it was concluded that lexical inferencing strategies was recommended to teach to improve the students’ reading comprehension performance.

This research deals with the effect of using skimming method in teaching reading comprehension  smk negeri 2 pematangsiantar on narrative text. The problem of this research are “what is the students’ ability in reading  without using skimming method at Grade XI students’ of SMK N.2 Pematangsiantar. What is the students’ ability in reading by using skimming method at Grade XI students’ of SMK N.2”. The purpose of this research are to find out the students’ ability in reading without using skimming method at grade XI students in SMK N 2 Pematangsiantar on reading narrative  text, to find out the the students ability in reading by using skimming method to the skill of grade XI students in SMK N 2 Pematangsiantar on reading narrative text. To answer the problem the researchers uses theories: Micklukey and Jefferies (2007), Grellet (2000), Milter (2001), Jhon and Dara (2005), David Nunan (1991), Douglas Newton (2000), Douglas Brown (2003), Rae Pica (2000), Roger Brown (1973), Ronald Carter (1998), Scoot Thornburry (2002), Wilga Rivers (1987), Diane Larsen (1990), Judi Willis (2008), Jack and Theodore (1986). The research design is a quantitative research. As an experimental research, it aims to know the effect of the technique that given and apply whether it influences to the object or no. In this research in collecting the data the researcher has to do three steps, they are pre-test, treatment, post-test. The researchers find out that the effect of using skimming method can increase the students’ skill in reading of narrative text. It can be proven from the test of students’ score in posttest of experimental class which the treatment the researchers did the treatment by using skimming method. By using skimming method, the students can increase their ability in reading of narrative text.

Research that examines the picture of student discipline before and after the application of positif reinforcement techniques and the effect of the application of positif reinforcement techniques to increase student discipline in SMA Negeri 20 Pangkep. This study aims to determine the level of student discipline as well as determine the effect of positif reinforcement techniques on increasing student discipline in SMA Negeri 20 Pangkep. Data collection techniques in this study used a questionnaire with a sample of 35 students from all grade X students with a population of 162 students in SMA Negeri 20 Pangkep. This type of research used in this study is an experimental study with one group pretest-posttest village design research design. The results showed that there was a difference between the test results before and after being given a positif reinforcement technique treatment of 0.660 at a significance of 0.879> 0.05. While the value of t arithmetic is smaller than t table (21,707 <1,697) at a significance level of 5%, it means that there is an influence on the application of the Positif Reinforcement technique to the discipline of student learning in SMA Negeri 20 Pangkep

Abstrak. Dalam pembelajaran membaca bahasa Jepang, seringkali siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam membaca dan memahami isi bacaan karena banyaknya huruf, kosakata, dan pola kalimat bahasa Jepang. Dalam membaca, siswa tidak hanya membaca saja melainkan siswa harus memahami isi bacaan tersebut. Hal ini dikenal dengan membaca pemahaman (dokkai). Dokkai bukanlah hal yang sederhana, sehingga diperlukan sebuah metode yang dapat mengatasi kesulitan siswa dalam pembelajaran membaca bahasa Jepang terutama kesulitan terhadap dokkai. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan penerepan metode PQ4R (Preview, Question, Read, Reflect, Recite, Review) dengan teknik “temukan kesalahannya dulu” dalam pembelajaran membaca bahasa Jepang. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuasi eksperimen dengan desain penelitian yaitu one group, pretest-posttest design. Sampel penelitian ini sebanyak 25 orang yang diambil dari populasi siswa kelas XI SMAN 15 Bandung Tahun Ajaran 2015/2016. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah tes dan angket. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data, dapat diketahui nilai t hitung sebesar 7,03. Nilai t tabel sebesar 2,06 pada taraf signifikansi 5% dan 2,80 pada taraf signifikansi 1%. Dengan demikian, diperoleh hasil t hitung lebih besar dibandingkan nilai t tabel pada taraf signifikansi 1% (7,03> 2,80). Dengan ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pada kemampuan membaca  bahasa Jepang siswa sebelum dan setelah perlakuan dengan menggunakan metode PQ4R teknik “temukan kesalahannya dulu”.  Kata kunci: metode PQ4R, teknik “temukan kesalahannya dulu”, membaca bahasa Jepang. Abstract. In the learning of the Japanese, students having difficulty in reading and understanding the contents of the Japanese, for example, Japanese characters, the number of vocabulary, and the sentence patterns in Japanese. In Japanese reading learning, students not only read but they have to understanding about content. This is called reading comprehension (dokkai). Dokkai is not a simple things. Therefore, a method that can overcome those difficulties in needed, especially the difficulty of dokkai. The purpose of this study was to describe the application of PQ4R (Preview, Question, Read, Reflect, Recite, Review) method with the specific technique "find the mistake first" in learning to read Japanese. This research is a quasi-experimental research using the design of one group, pretest-posttest design. The research sample are 25 students drawn from the population of students of class XI SMAN 15 Bandung in Academic Year 2015/2016. The instruments used were  tests and questionnaire. Based on the analysis, the t-count is 7.03. The t-table value is 2.06 at the 5% significance level and 2.80 at 1% significance level. Thus, according to the result, t-countis greater than t-table at a significance level of 1% (7.03> 2.80).  Therefore it can be concluded that there are significant differences in the students ability to read Japanese before and after the treatment using the PQ4R method with "find the mistake first" techniques. Keywords: PQ4R method, "find the mistake first" techniques, Japanese reading.
