Research question: The aim of the study is to examine the inclination of engineering students in Serbia to adopt M-learning. Motivation: Mobile technologies provide new solutions in the current concept of learning. Students today have a new approach to learning since they live in the era of digital technology. The use of mobile technology in higher education came along with the technological enlightenment of professors and students, eradicating geographical boundaries and enabling cooperative learning. Idea: Mobile learning (M-learning) is unthinkable without the use of mobile devices and it plays an increasingly important role in the development of teaching methods in higher education. The research refers to the analysis and assessment of M-learning in higher education with the aim to identify problems and weaknesses related to the application of M-learning in order to set alternatives and criteria for the proposed model. Data: The survey was conducted through a questionnaire, and 341 correctly filled out questionnaires were collected. The obtained data were processed by the Visual Promethee software package. Tools: The research methodology was based on the Multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) method which was used in the form of PROMETHEE II/GAIA technique. In order to rank the student programmes from different study areas, groups of questions were used as criteria, and study programmes were used as alternatives. Findings: The acquired results indicated that M-learning was mostly used by the students of Engineering Management, since they frequently used mobile technology in certain required courses, as well as for obligatory business practice. It was also concluded that the study programme Metallurgical Engineering had the lowest performance concerning the implementation of M-learning among all other observed study programmes. Contribution: The conclusions of this study can add to the awareness-raising of the higher education institutions' interested parties and alert them to improve the quality of M-education by pointing out that there are differences in the adoption of M-learning depending on the type of engineering sciences.

Mobile technologies are widely employed in distance learning in higher education to provide students with an opportunity to learn regardless of time and place in order to obtain a higher education degree. However, little attention has been paid to a comparative study of business and engineering students' attitudes toward mobile technologies. The aim of the chapter is to compare business and engineering students' attitudes toward mobile technologies in distance learning, underpinning elaboration of a hypothesis. The meanings of the key concepts of distance learning, blended learning, and attitude are studied. Moreover, the study demonstrates how the key concepts are related to the idea of mobile technologies and shows how the steps of the process are related: students' attitudes toward mobile technologies in distance learning? empirical study within multicultural environments ? conclusions. The results of the present research show that both business and engineering students' attitudes toward mobile technologies are positive.

In response to education regulations for quality assurance (QA), universities in Indonesia strongly require an integrated management information system (MIS), such as Academic MIS (AMIS). In developing AMIS, the main issues that must be addressed are the urgent need for implementing university QA standards (even though departments have already implemented their best practices for years and show reluctance to change), changing requirements, and the need for a quick delivery system despite the fact that AMIS is very large in scope. This paper contributes to modeling AMIS, which is suitable for universities in Indonesia. This research has been conducted at one of the best private universities, Parahyangan Catholic University. Having measured the quality of AMIS using several key business measures, results indicated that the proposed model successfully resolved the issues at stake.

Abstract Hochschule Wismar, Germany, has been implementing Master programmes for international students since 1992. However, for most European universities, it is a rather new phenomenon. The purpose of the work is to analyse scientific literature on European higher education programmes for international students and to outline a theoretical framework of European higher education programmes for international students underpinning elaboration of new research question on master programmes for international engineering students. The research methodology comprises the study of the meaning of the key concepts of “framework”, “theoretical framework” and “international students”. Moreover, the logical chain of analysis is shown: theoretical framework → empirical study within a multicultural environment → conclusions. The case study research is applied. The empirical study was carried out at Hochschule Wismar, Germany in March 2017. Semi-structured interview served as the basis for data collection. The empirical findings allow complementing the elaborated theoretical framework consisting of the concepts on reasons for, language and impact of Masetr programme for international students with such a concept as European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). Directions of further research are proposed. The novel contribution of the paper is the newly formulated research question on master programmes for international students.

This paper attempts to provide some insights about the use and perception of undergraduate students about the applications of these devices at University and the importance they give to the adoption of mobile technologies in their education. The methodology used for this purpose was a designed survey distributed to different undergraduate students of Medical Schools from University of Salamanca. It collects information of the most relevant aspects that the students consider when they interact with mobile devices, how often they use them and the type of apps they download. Also, it makes an especial mention of training apps and their handling by the participants. The survey is based on the Technological Acceptance model of Davis. This model helps us to understand the current situation of mobile technologies from the point of view of students. This paper also analyses the existing relationships between the different factors that could influence in their attitude to accept the mobile technology.

The article is devoted to the development of higher education system in the interests of modernization of the country´s economy. The author considers the negative trends affecting the development of the national economy, in particular, unfavorable demographic situation, labour aging. The article shows a well-established model of the educational process, which cannot be used without change in these circumstances. The author presents the renovated model and technology of the learning process of higher education experts, which should be action-oriented and remain professional, and analyzes the necessary conditions for the implementation of the proposed model. An important feature of training in the intensive growth of the economy should be the cooperation of the teaching staff of educational institutions with technical staff, experts of enterprises and organizations - consumers of prepared graduates. Today employers´ requirements to future specialists are increasing. This makes it necessary to improve the quality of interaction between educational institutions and industrial organizations. The author recommends to extend the information communications of educational institutions with interacting companies and organizations, and offers some ways to improve the quality of training specialist through direct interaction with employers and changes in the system of relations between teacher and student.

Healthcare service is an essential mechanism for the well-being of the elderly from physical, social and mental health. Implications of mobile technology for Electronic healthcare (eHealth) are challenges in technological management and healthcare market for developing countries. eHealth support trends of the aging population in Asia that increase at an average to 30% in 2050.There is a need to identify and develop Emergency Medical Service (EMS) with electronic healthcare for elderly. This research is aimed to develop eHealth service model through mobile technology for developing countries to face with elderly patient demands in aging societies. The authors use systematic reviews to identify component of health situation and EMS from WHO. Then they develop the eHealth service model through mobile technology on basic of value co-creation concept with feasible applications. The findings show that eHealth is a significant service platform influencing effective in Demand increasing quality of service to elderly people. Mobile technologies in eHealth are key factors to increase quality of healthcare service to elderly people.

Abstract This paper presents research results from the field of mobile-assisted instruction of English for specific purposes for technical and engineering students. The research was structured in three phases: (1) Questionnaire 1 was applied to detect what sources of information students use in higher education, what types of mobile devices they own, what purposes they use them for, (2) how the process of instruction, particularly students´ autonomous work supported by mobile devices ran, (3) students´ feedback was collected by Questionnaire 2 to evaluate the mobile-assisted learning and provide proposals for future exploitation of mobile devices in higher technical language education. The results show students are sufficiently equipped with mobile technologies and exploit them for various purposes, including education and ESP. At the end, examples of helpful mobile applications are presented.

Curricular analytics is the area of learning analytics that looks for insights and evidence on the relationship between curricular elements and the degree of achievement of curricular outcomes. For higher education institutions, curricular analytics can be useful for identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the curricula and for justifying changes in learning pathways for students. This work presents the study of curricular trajectories as processes (i.e., sequence of events) using process mining techniques. Specifically, the Backpack Process Model (BPPM) is defined as a novel model to unveil student trajectories, not by the courses that they take, but according to the courses that they have failed and have yet to pass. The usefulness of the proposed model is validated through the analysis of the curricular trajectories of N = 4466 engineering students considering the first courses in their program. We found differences between backpack trajectories that resulted in retention or in dropout; specific courses in the backpack and a larger initial backpack sizes were associated with a higher proportion of dropout. BPPM can contribute to understanding how students handle failed courses they must retake, providing information that could contribute to designing and implementing timely interventions in higher education institutions.

The current study sets out to identify determinants affecting behavioural intention to use mobile technology in lecture classes. The research emphasizes the reason for using mobile technology during lectures with large number of students is to facilitate interactions among students and lecturers. The proposed conceptual framework has four main antecedents of behavioural intention: System perception, intrinsic motivation, system and information quality, and uncertainty avoidance. Sample data was collected from 396 tertiary students. Results from structural equation model on the sample indicated that behavioural intention was significantly influenced by system and information quality, followed by intrinsic motivator, and uncertainty avoidance. System perception was not significantly predictive of behavioural intention. The proposed model explained 54% of the variance in behavioural intention of mobile technology use in lecture classes. The study findings are indicative of the importance of system development efforts to ensure overall quality system design. The findings further suggest that mobile technology may serve as a tool to facilitate interaction among students and lecturers in large lecture classes.
