The aim of the research was to assess the knowledge and prevalence of anemia among rural and urban school children. A quantitative approach was used for the present study. The study population wasthe school children, 9-14 years of age studying in 6th to 9th standard of rural and urban schools of Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. The sample size consisted of 50 children from urban and 50 children from rural school. The objectives of the study were to assess the knowledge of anemia among children in urban and rural school. Compare the knowledge of anemia among children in urban and rural school. To find out the association between knowledge and selected demographic variables. Among the urban school children 14(28%) had inadequate knowledge, 26(52%) had moderately adequate knowledge, and, 10(20%) were having adequate knowledge. Among the rural school children 35(70%) had inadequate knowledge, 12(24%) had moderately adequate knowledge, and 3(6%) had adequate knowledge. There is significant difference in the level of knowledge regarding Anemia among urban and rural school children. There is significant association between knowledge of urban school children and occupation of mother. There is significant association between knowledge of rural school children and educational qualification of father.

Background: The practice of hand washing is a simple effective way to prevent infection cleaning of the hands can prevent the spread of germs and micro organisms. Hand hygiene is recognized as a leading measure to prevent cross –transmission of microorganism. Infection due to microbes is a evolving problem in worldwide and horizontal transmission of bacterial organisms to cause a high mortality rate increased. Hand washing with soap and water can prevent a significant proportion of childhood diarrhoea and respiratory infections, the two main global causes of child mortality.  Objectives: The objectives were to assess the existing level of knowledge and practice of school going children on hand washing, to find out the correlation between level of knowledge and practice on hand washing among school going children and to find out the association between level of knowledge and practices of school going children on hand washing with their selected demographic variables. Methods: A quantitative evaluative approach with descriptive research design was adopted. 50 school going children were selected by the purposive sampling technique. Results:  The collected data was tabulated and analyzed. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used. In the level of knowledge majority of the school going children (52%) had inadequate knowledge, 28% of them were had moderately adequate knowledge and only 20% of them had adequate knowledge. The mean knowledge score on hand washing was 10.4 and the standard deviation was 4.31. The mean practice score on hand washing was 21.52 and the standard deviation was 7.4. Conclusion: The study results shows that most of the school children were having inadequate knowledge and less desirable practices of hand washing. A structured teaching program on hand washing is very important for incorporating the knowledge among school children.

Background: Hypertension is one of the most common diseases worldwide. Early diagnosis of Hypertension is an important strategy in its control. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of hypertension and risk factors among school going children and to find its relationship with regard to age, sex, height, weight and BMI criteria and comparing the values with available standards.Methods: It is a prospective cross-sectional study done in the age group of 10 to 16 years. Children were selected from urban and rural areas in and around Mysore city. Blood pressure measurements were taken by mercury Sphygmomanometer as per recommendation of American Heart Association. Three readings of blood pressure were recorded for each subject and were correlated with age, gender and anthropometry. All the statistical operations were done through SPSS.Results: The present study was conducted amongst children in the age group of 10-16 years in rural and urban schools. A total of 2000 children were included in the study. BP measurements of 1000 subjects in three urban school children and 1000 school children in one rural school children in Mysuru district were done. In rural school children prevalence of systolic hypertension was 2.8% in males and 0.9% in females. In urban school children prevalence of systolic hypertension was 2.1% in males and 1.2% in females.Conclusions: Blood pressure measurement in children is pivotal in clinical examination. Periodic measurement of blood pressure would identify hypertension at an early age. Further studies are needed to know the exact prevalence of hypertension and long term follow up studies are required to know the effect and risk factors associated in children with sustained hypertension.

Background: The study was conducted to know the prevalence of anemia in rural school children located within 15km radius of Yenepoya Medical college hospital, Mangalore and to study the risk factors associated with anemia also to correlate the detection of anemia by clinical examination and by lab estimation of hemoglobin.Methods: A total of 550 children in the age group of 6-15 years were included in this study. Parental informed consent was obtained. A preplanner questionnaire was used to collect the health and socio demographic details. Blood was collected by venepuncture method and haemoglobin was determined by automated sysmex machine. Diagnosis of anemia was made according to WHO cut off value of Hb.Results: Out of 550 children 114(20.6%) were anemic. There was no significant difference between age and sex. Anemia was found to be more prevalent in children with h/o passing worms, undernourished, pica and low socio-economic status. Out of 550 children 174 children had conjunctival pallor on clinical examination. Among that 58 (33.3%) children had anemia on hemoglobin estimation. Majority of the children 116 (66.7%) who had pallor on clinical examination was found as non-anemic on hemoglobin estimation. On kappa co efficient, statistics showed that two examinations to detect anemia was 18.47 %, which indicates poor agreement.Conclusions: The overall prevalence of anemia among rural population is variable depending upon the region. Major factors which influence the prevalence of anemia were nutrition, socioeconomic status, pica and worm infestation. Clinical diagnosis by examination of pallor is poorly correlated by estimation of haemoglobin, hence anemia cannot be diagnosed by detection of pallor alone and it requires lab haemoglobin estimation to prevent wrong diagnosis of anemia.

Pregnancy in woman’s life brings many perspective changes. For the first-time mothers, which initiates a new social role, and they experience motherhood. Pregnancy happenings take place both emotionally and physically in mothers. The changes like neuroendocrine and biological that occur during pregnancy have profound psychological effects on expectant mothers. The pregnancy brings many emotions that play a very vital role in the development of the fetus during pregnancy. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching programs on pregnancy-related specific emotions, and it’s management among Primigravida women. Methodology is a quantitative evaluative study was conducted among 60 Primigravida women of selected community, Bailhongal. The pre-experimental, one-group pre-test, and post-test research design was selected. Results: In the pre-test, the majority of the Primigravida women had 56.7% inadequate knowledge and 38.3% had moderate knowledge. After administration of structured teaching programme, 66.7% of the subjects had adequate knowledge; 23.3% had moderate knowledge and only 10% had inadequate knowledge regarding Pregnancy-related specific emotions, and it’s management in the post-test. The overall analysis of level of knowledge of Primigravida women regarding Pregnancy-related specific emotions and its management showed that mean knowledge scores of the subjects at pre-test were 13.75 (45.83%) found to be inadequate knowledge regarding Pregnancy-related specific emotions and its management. After administration of structured teaching program, mean knowledge scores of the subjects at post-test were 23.5 (78.33%) found to be significant. Conclusion: Findings of the study show that there was a significant difference in pre-test and post-test knowledge scores of Primigravida women. From this, it is concluded that the structured teaching program is effective in improving the level of knowledge of Primigravida women. And there was

BACKGROUND HIV infection is one of the most leading infections in the world. According to WHO HIV constitutes to be a major global public health issue, having claimed almost 33 million so far. There were an estimation of 38.0 million people living with the HIV at the end of 2019. As a result of concerted international efforts to respond to HIV , coverage of services has been steadily increasing. In 2019, 68% of adults and 53% of children living with HIV globally were receiving lifelong antiretroviral therapy (ART). There is no cure of HIV infections , however effective antiretroviral drugs can the control of virus and help onward transmission to other people. The knowledge regarding HIV infections in the public is a not much. The study focuses on the effectiveness of self instructional module on knowledge regarding the HIV among the drivers in Kancheepuram, Chennai. The objectives of the study was to assess the pre and post test of the self instructional module. For the study 60 samples were adopted by purposive sampling technique. The pre test was conducted by giving the structured questionnare then the module was given and then the post assessment was conducted. The study was conducted for 1 week. In the pre assessment 52(86.7%) were having inadequate knowledge and 8(13.3%) had moderately inadequate knowledge. In the post test 50(83.33%) had moderately adequate knowledge and 10(16.67%) has adequate knowledge. The effectivess of self instructional module was calculated by the paired t test (t=12.880) was found to be statistically highly significant at p<0.001 OBJECTIVE To assess the pre test level of existing knowledge on HIV among drivers. (2)To determine the effectiveness of self instructional module on HIV among drivers. (3)To find the association between the level of knowledge with their selected demographic variables METHODS Quantative research approach and pre experimental one group pre test post test design was used to assess the effectiveness of self instructional module on HIV to drivers. After obtaining permission from Saveetha College Of Nursing , the investigator selected 60 drivers by using purposive sampling technique. The sample who met the inclusion criteria were selected by purposive sampling technique . The investigator introduced and explained the purpose of the study to the samples and obtain the written confirmed. The purpose of the study were explained to the drivers. Section A: It consist of the demographic variables which include Age, sex, education. Occupation, monthly income, religion, marital status, type of family and dietary pattern.Section B- It consist 25 multiple choice questions to assess the effectiveness of self instructional module. RESULTS The drivers most of them 26(43.3%) were in the age group of 41 – 50 years, all 60(100%) were male, 45(75%) were private employee, 21(35%) had monthly income of 9000 – 11000 and above 11000 respectively, 45(75%) were married, 32(53.3%) belonged to nuclear family 45(75%) were non-vegetarian. Section B : Assess the pretest level of existing knowledge on HIV among drivers. The finding of the pretest 52(86.67%) had inadequate knowledge and 8(13.33%) had moderately adequate knowledge. Whereas in the post test, 50(83.33%) had moderately adequate knowledge and 10( 16.67%) had adequate knowledge on HIV among drivers CONCLUSIONS The findings revealed that the existing level of knowledge on HIV among drivers was improve the knowledge about HIV to be effective awareness by administered self instructional module

Background: Autism is a developmental disorder characterized by difficulties with social interaction and communication and by restricted and repetitive behavior. Mothers of toddlers should have knowledge on Autism to identify the child in earlier age and to treat the child. Objectives: The study aimed to assess the level of knowledge on autism among the mothers of toddlers. The objectives were to find out the level of knowledge on autism among the mothers and to find out the association between the level of knowledge on autism and selected demographic variables of the mothers of toddlers. Materials and Methods: A non-experimental, descriptive study was conducted. The sampling technique was snow ball sampling technique with the sample of 50 mothers of toddlers and questionnaires were formulated, a structured interview schedule was used to assess the level of knowledge on autism among the mothers of toddlers. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the collected data. The data collection procedure was done for period of 2 weeks. The study was initiated after obtaining prior permission from the concern authorities. Results: The findings of this study revealed that 44% of the mothers of toddlers had inadequate knowledge, 44% had moderately adequate knowledge and only 2% had adequate knowledge on autism. There was significant association between level of knowledge and demographic variables such as age, occupation and previous knowledge on Autism of mothers of toddlers.

Back ground: An experimental study was conducted to assess the effects of instructional teaching programme (ITP) on knowledge and practices of mothers regarding prevention of pneumonia in children, Pooncherry, Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu, India.Objectives of the study were to assess the effectiveness of ITP on prevention of pneumonia on level of knowledge and practices among mothers of under five children. Materials and Methods: Non probability purposive technique was adopted for this study. Samples who met inclusion criteria were participated in the study. Self-structured interview schedule for knowledge  and structured rating scale for practices were used to collect the data. Results: The study results shows that in the pre test 15.13 % of the mothers had adequate knowledge, 24.34 % of the mothers were had moderately adequate knowledge and 60.53 % of the mothers had inadequate knowledge and  and in post test 63.17% of mothers were had adequate knowledge, 28.94% of the mothers had moderately adequate knowledge and very few (8.55% ) mothers had inadequate knowledge. Pre test practices score shows that 63.82 % of the mothers had less desirable practice, 22.37% of the mothers had moderate desirable practices and 13.81% were had highly desirable practices whereas in the post test 63.82% of them had highly desirable practice, 23.03% of them had moderate desirable practices and 13.16% of them had less desirable practices. The mean pretest knowledge score was 5.45 ± 1.47 and the mean posttest knowledge score was 8.49 ± 0.71 and the t value was 15.17, it shows that statistically there was an improvement in the post test knowledge score. The mean pretest practice score was 22.38 ± 2.76, the mean posttest practice score was 43.64 ±1.97 and the t value was 13.35, it shows that statistically there was a significant improvement in the post test practice score. The instructional teaching programme on prevention of pneumonia was statistically effective in promoting the knowledge and desirable practices among mothers.

ObjectiveRecent data on sustained hypertension and obesity among school-going children and adolescents in India are limited. This study evaluates the prevalence of sustained hypertension and obesity and their risk factors among urban and rural adolescents in northern India.SettingA school-based, cross-sectional survey was conducted in the urban and rural areas of Ludhiana, Punjab, India using standardised measurement tools.ParticipantsA total of 1959 participants aged 11–17 years (urban: 849; rural: 1110) were included in this school-based survey.Primary and secondary outcome measuresTo measure sustained hypertension among school children, two distinct blood pressure (BP) measurements were recorded at an interval of 1 week. High BP was defined and classified into three groups as recommended by international guidelines: (1) normal BP: <90th percentile compared with age, sex and height percentile in each age group; (2) prehypertension: BP=90th–95th percentile; and (3) hypertension: BP >95th percentile. The Indian Academy of Pediatrics classification was used to define underweight, normal, overweight and obesity as per the body mass index (BMI) for specific age groups.ResultsThe prevalence of sustained hypertension among rural and urban areas was 5.7% and 8.4%, respectively. The prevalence of obesity in rural and urban school children was 2.7% and 11.0%, respectively. The adjusted multiple regression model found that urban area (relative risk ratio (RRR): 1.7, 95% CI 1.01 to 2.93), hypertension (RRR: 7.4, 95% CI 4.21 to 13.16) and high socioeconomic status (RRR: 38.6, 95% CI 16.54 to 90.22) were significantly associated with an increased risk of obesity. However, self-reported regular physical activity had a protective effect on the risk of obesity among adolescents (RRR: 0.4, 95% CI 0.25 to 0.62). Adolescents who were overweight (RRR: 2.66, 95% CI 1.49 to 4.40) or obese (RRR: 7.21, 95% CI 4.09 to 12.70) and reported added salt intake in their diet (RRR: 4.90, 95% CI 2.83 to 8.48) were at higher risk of hypertension.ConclusionHigh prevalence of sustained hypertension and obesity was found among urban school children and adolescents in a northern state in India. Hypertension among adolescents was positively associated with overweight and obesity (high BMI). Prevention and early detection of childhood obesity and high BP should be strengthened to prevent the risk of cardiovascular diseases in adults.
