This study was conducted to find out the types of lexical errors that high and low proficiency learners produced in their writing, and find the differences and similarities from the production of the two groups. To answer the research questions, the writers used the theory by James (2013) about lexical error classification. This study was a qualitative study. The sources of the data of this study were the lexical errors from 32 writing drafts. The writers divided the students into two groups: eight students from high proficiency level and eight students from low proficiency level. The findings showed that the high proficiency learners produced five types of formal errors and four types of semantic errors, while the low proficiency learners produced two types of formal errors and six types of semantic errors. In conclusion, the high and the low proficiency learners’ lexical error productions are due to the learners’ lack of knowledge in sense relation and collocation, and the learners’ wrong terms of near-synonyms production.Keywords: lexical errors, high proficiency learners, low proficiency learners, error analysis

The aim of the study was to examine the lexical errors made by EFL students. The technique for eliciting information employed was an achievement test. A sample of 30 Saudi female students was asked to write essays in English that were assessed by the researcher. The students were all majoring in English in the third year at King Khalid University. James (1998) taxonomy was selected as the most comprehensive framework for the analysis of the lexical errors in the students' writing. A total of 137 lexical errors were identified and analysed. These errors were divided into formal 117 (85.40) and semantic 20 (14.60). Formal mis- selection 54 (39.42) was the most frequent major category of lexical formal errors while mis-formation 15 (10.95) was the least frequent one. Confusion of sense relations 14 (10.22) was the most frequent among lexical semantic errors. At the individual level of lexical formal errors, the most problematic words for students were the vowel based types 24 (17.52) and borrowing and blending were not problematic at all. At the individual level of lexical semantic errors, the most problematic words for students were near synonyms 8 (5.84) and the least problematic words were general terms for specific ones and overtly specific terms 1 (0.73).Pedagogical implications for teaching vocabulary to EFL learners and recommendations for areas for further research were suggested.

In this study, we are to explore (1) features of HR reengineering, (2) the impact of business digitalization strategies on digital transformation and HR engineering, (3) the impact of business digitalization strategies and HR reengineering on talent value creation, and present the results of a qualitative study that offers insight into 42 “thought units”, which were “categorizing” into four dimensions corresponding to our research questions: (1) plan, (2) do, (3) check, and (4) action. The “check” dimension corresponds to the four key features of HR reengineering related to business digitalization strategy, and how to create talent value when a company successfully implements business-led digital transformation, HR reengineering, and talent value creation, including (1) talent planning, (2) talent introduction, (3) talent adjustment, and (4) talent development.

The learner’s proficiency level in communication using English as a foreign language was indicated by their capability to make use of strategies to communicate both in written as well as spoken forms. This qualitative study focused on finding out (i) the types of communication strategies used by the students in EFL classrooms at SMP Negeri 4 Singaraja, and (ii) the students’ reasons towards the use of their communication strategies. The data were obtained from observation and focus group discussion. All data were analysed descriptively. The results of the study indicated that numerous types of strategies were used by the students when communicating in the classroom. They are the use of fillers, self-repetition, code switching, appeal for help, self-repair, asking for confirmation, massage abandonment, omission, approximation, and literal translation. Various types of reasons were expressed by the students toward the use of communication strategies such as thinking time, anxiety, and proficiency level.

Despite the increase of seminary training, Black clergywomen continuously undergo subjugation, degradation, and humiliation in ministry leadership due to gender and race bias by clergymen. This article reports the findings of a qualitative study that examined the experiences of Black clergywomen regarding obstacles in ministry leadership and how these clergywomen ascribed meaning to their experiences. The two primary research questions were, “What are the experiences of Black clergywomen regarding obstacles in ministry leadership?” and “How do Black clergywomen attribute meaning to their experiences regarding obstacles in ministry leadership?” The results of the study indicated that bias of gender exists among clergymen; however, the Black clergywomen learned to embrace the experiences and learned from them. The conclusion of this article includes a discussion regarding the practical implications of the education of clergymen and clergywomen, and the re-evaluation of the perception of Black clergywomen and their experiences. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the experiences of Black clergywomen pertaining to challenges in clergy leadership and to explore how Black clergywomen attributed meaning to their experiences regarding challenges in ministry leadership.

Purpose This paper aims to find answers to two research questions: What is the perception of the Moravia community on tourism in their neighbourhood? What are the conditions under which they can accept slum tourism? Design/methodology/approach The foundation of this paper was laid during a field trip to Medellin, Colombia, in March 2018. More than three weeks were spent in the neighbourhood of Moravia, one of Medellin’s “barrios” or slums, where a qualitative study was led. Semi-structured interviews with the local community were done around the neighbourhood. Findings The main finding of this research is the positive perception of slum tourism within the Moravia community. The researchers found that the locals are proud when outsiders visit to see their neighbourhood. The locals felt that, it breaks the prejudice surrounding their homes, and tourists are seen as spokespeople for the barrio. There are visible improvements made to the barrio owing to tourism. This research drew attention to the conditions under which this type of tourism can be accepted in the neighbourhood: community participation, interaction between hosts and tourists, education and respect of tourists and the visible improvements to the neighbourhood. Originality/value Slum tourism is an understudied topic in Colombia, especially in Medellin. By researching on the host perception on slum tourism, this paper contributes to literature on slum tourism from a new angle.

ObjectivesHospice care (HC) is seen as a comprehensive approach, that enhances quality of end-of-life (EOL) care, for terminally ill patients. Despite its positive aspects, HC enrolment is disproportionate for rural patients, who are less likely to use HC in comparison to their urban counterparts. The purpose of this study was to explore decision-making experiences, related to utilisation of HC programmes from a retrospective perspective, with family caregivers (FCGs) in a rural US–Mexico border region.DesignThis qualitative study was conducted from May 2017 to January 2018 using semistructured face to face interviews with FCGs. Data were analysed using thematic analysis.SettingThe HC programme was situated at a local home health agency, located in rural Southern California, USA.ParticipantsTwenty-eight informal FCGs of patients who were actively enrolled in the HC programme agreed to participate in the study.ResultsConversation about HC as an option was initiated by home healthcare staff (39.3%), followed by physicians (32.1%). Emerging themes related to challenges in utilisation of HC and decision-making included: (1) communication barriers; (2) lack of knowledge/misperception about HC; (3) emotional difficulties, including fear of losing their patient, doubt and uncertainty about the decision, denial and (4) patients are not ready for HC. Facilitators included: (1) patient’s known EOL wishes; (2) FCG-physician EOL communication; (3) the patient’s deteriorating health and (4) home as the place for death.ConclusionsHC patients’ FCGs in this rural region reported a lack of knowledge or misunderstanding of HC. It is recommended that healthcare providers need to actively engage family members in patient’s EOL care planning. Optimal transition to an HC programme can be facilitated when FCGs are informed and have a clear understanding about patients’ medical status along with information about HC.

Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis interferensi fonologi, morfologi, leksikal, sintaksis, dan faktor penyebab interferensi bahasa Jawa ke dalam bahasa Indonesia pada keterampilan berbicara sis-wa SMA Negeri 1 Pleret. Subjek penelitian adalah seluruh siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 1 Pleret. Objek penelitian adalah interferensi bahasa Jawa ke dalam bahasa Indonesia pada keterampilan berbicara. Human instrument, yaitu peneliti sebagai instrumen utama. Data diperoleh dengan teknik SBLC, rekam, dan catat. Selain itu, wawancara dilakukan untuk mendapatkan informasi faktor penyebab inter-ferensi. Keabsahan data diperoleh dengan tiangulasi dan expert judgement. Analisis dilakukan dengan intralingual error analysis. Teknik metode padan intralingual yang digunakan adalah teknik HBB. Hasil penelitian yaitu, pertama, interferensi fonologi terjadi karena terdapat prenasalisasi berupa suara hidung yang mendahului fonem /b/, /d/, /j/, dan /g/. Kedua, interferensi morfologi terjadi karena terda-pat afiksasi yang dipengaruhi sistem afiksasi bahasa Jawa, yaitu (a) prefiks n-, ke-, ny-, ng-, m-, (b) sufiks -e, (c) konfiks ke – an yang mengacu ke - en, dan (d) penggunaan akhiran –nya yang merujuk pada panambang –e. Ketiga, interferensi leksikal terjadi karena terdapat penggunaan leksikal pada dan tak yang merupakan leksikal bahasa Jawa. Penggunaan leksikal tersebut menyebabkan kesalahan keba-hasaan serta semantis. Keempat, interferensi sintaksis terjadi karena (a) penggunaan pola frasa “adverbia pada + verba” dan “adjektiva + sendiri”, (b) penggunaan pola klausa “pronomina posesif (tak) + verba”. Kelima, faktor linguistik penyebab interferensi, yaitu kontak bahasa, transfer negatif bahasa, dan sistem bahasa yang berdekatan. Faktor nonlinguistik penyebab interferensi, yaitu kebiasa-an, dominasi penguasaan bahasa Jawa, dan sikap berbahasa. Kata Kunci: interferensi, analisis kesalahan, keterampilan berbicara   THE INTERFERENCE OF JAVANESSE LANGUAGE IN INDONESIAN IN THE SPEAKING SKILL OF THE STUDENTS OF SMA NEGERI 1 PLERET, BANTUL Abstract The aims of this research are to analyze the form of phonological, morphologycal, lexical, syntactic interference, and the factors causing interference of Javanesse language in Indonesian in the speaking skill. The subjects of this study were all eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Pleret. The object of this study was the interference of Javanesse language in Indonesian in the speaking skill. The research instrument was the human instrument. The data of this study were collected through SBLC, record, and noted techniques. The validity of the data was obtained through the triangulation technique and expert judgment. The intralingual error analysis was used for the data analysis. The results of this study show that: (1) phonological interference occurs because of nasal sound at the beginning of the phonemes /b/, /d /, / j/, and /g/; (2) morphological interference occurs because affixa-tion system is influenced by the Javanesse language, including (a) the prefix n-, ke-, ny-, ng-, m-, (b) the suffix -e, (c) the confix ke – an refering to ke - en, and (d) suffix -nya refering to the suffix –e; (3) lexical interference occurs because there are Javanesse lexical items causing the linguistic and semantic errors; (4) syntactic interference occurs because of (a) the use of the Javanesse language phrase patterns “adverbia pada + verba” and “adjektiva + sendiri”, (b) the use of the Javanesse language clause patterns “pronomina posesif (tak) + verba”, and (5) the linguistic factors which cause interference, include language contact, negative transfer, and proximity language system. The non-linguistic factor causing interference include domination of Javanesse language skill, speaking habits, and language attitude. Keywords: interference, error analysis, speaking skill

Language is a pivotal aspect of human being. By learning, language people can communicate with each other, get information from one to another and interact. Unfortunately, in the real condition, it is still difficult for Indonesian students to practice their English ability in daily conversation. This study deals to increase the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students' confidence in English speaking. This research used qualitative analysis by distributing questioner. This study suggest that EFL teachers should seek ways to increase students' collaboration in the classroom to help them gain confidence in speaking. The study involved the students in the fifth semester in the English Department at Tidar University. The researcher compared the gathered data with other relevant researches and theories involved in the study. Based on the research questions, the research result shows that students’ perceptions of self-confidence have a significant to decrease reticence in speaking skills. However, lecturers need to push the students in practice speaking English in front of a class, especially to improve the self-confidence when the students are communicating in English. Two research questions were formulated in this study. There are: (1) what are the factors of the EFL students’ reticence in speaking? (2) Do the students have high self-confidence in speaking skills? In conclusion, this article showed the results that EFL Learners’ self-confidence can be decreased the reticence in speaking ability or not. keywords: Self-confidence, speaking ability, EFL students, qualitative study

CLIL approach refers to Content and Language Integrated Learning. This paper discusses the self-efficacy of Malaysian Gifted Students (MGS) at GENIUS@Pintar Negara in understanding Arabic tasks in the classroom, for example, understanding the Arabic terms in the lesson of Haji. These terms are; a) dam tertib and takdir, b) dam tertib and ta’dil, c) dam takhyir and takdir, d) dam takhyir and ta’dil. Besides, by employing the CLIL, the MGS can improve themselves because the CLIL approach encourages their self-efficacy to completely deal with the language task. The present study employs; qualitative study by using an interview, verbal report, and observation. This method is an instrument to answer two research questions. a) How the individual of MGS adapts his/ her situation to understand the four Arabic terms of the dam in Haji after undergo the three principles stages of classroom task in CLIL? b) What is the best method to memorize the four Arabic terms of the dam in Haji? In this study, three participants took part in the pilot study, and seven participants took part in the actual study. The present study revealed that the MGS in the Pusat GENIUS@Pintar Negara prefer to be independent learners by using the internet to understand the four Arabic terms and memorize by using keywords related to the four Arabic terms in performing Haji.

The main purpose of this research is to understand the experiences and psychological wellbeing of nurses working in palliative ward. There were two research questions driving this research throughout the process of data collection and data analysis. Four nurses from the palliative ward participated in this research to provide details on their psychological wellbeing. Semi- structured interview questions together with observation and simple survey questions were used to gather the data. Thematic analysis was used to identify the meaningful themes for each research question. Six main themes were identified: autonomy, environmental mastery, positive relation, personal growth, self-acceptance and purpose in life. The findings are highly relevant with the theory and literature. The findings indicate that the participants have good psychological wellbeing due to their huge experiences in palliative ward.
