Abstract The current rapid modernization must also have an influence on students' consumption. This study aims to determine the effect of the independent variable, namely the intensity of economic learning in the family and the intensity of communication with peers on the dependent variable, namely the consumption behavior of the 2018 Economics Education S1 students, State University of Malang partially and simultaneously. This research is a quantitative research with the type of explanatory research which aims to explain the influence of the independent variable on the dependent variable and to find out how much influence these variables have. Suggestions from this study are: (1) students are expected to be able to apply economic learning that has been taught in the family to realize rational consumption behavior in daily life, 2) students are expected to be in a peer environment and be able to bring good influence because they have received economic learning from his family so that he is able to consume rationally.

AbstractBackground and aimsDuring the COVID-19 lockdown, problematic Internet use (PIU) has become a serious issue among residential college students, who remain physically isolated from off-campus society. This study constructs an integrated model to investigate the influencing mechanisms of internal locus of control (LOC) and objective peer effects.MethodsResidential college students (n = 494) were surveyed from a single department of a Chinese university. An item from the World Value Survey was employed to measure internal LOC, while objective peer effects were assessed via friends’ mutual nominations. Finally, PIU was measured using Young’s Internet Addiction Tests, while a social network analysis and logit regression were combined to estimate various factors’ effects on PIU.ResultsIn our sample, the prevalence rate of PIU was 30.6%, and while internal LOC was a protective factor for PIU, its protective role was diluted when exposed to a peer environment with high PIU prevalence. Furthermore, indegree performed contrasting roles on PIU under various network conditions. It acted as a protective factor when exposed to a low prevalence of PIU in a peer environment; however, it became a risk factor when PIU peers were prevalent. Lastly, the protective efficacy of betweenness was activated when individuals had more than one PIU friend.Discussion and conclusionsFurther intervention studies focusing on individuals with a weak internal LOC are recommended during the lockdown. Additionally, interventions that consider the network structures carefully, may enhance the prevention of PIU.

The purpose of this study was to determine the most dominant factor in students' difficulties in completing their thesis. In this study, researchers used data mining techniques using the C4.5 algorithm. Sources of research data used were obtained from interviews and questionnaires to students randomly in the STIKOM Tunas Bangsa Pematangsiantar environment. The research variables used were motivation to graduate on time (C1), ability to write scientific papers (C2), availability of learning resources (C3), guidance process (C4), and peer environment (C5). In this study, the alternative used as a sample is the student of STIKOM Tunas Bangsa, semester eight. The results of the classification using the C4.5 algorithm and testing with rapidminer software found that the most dominant factor in student difficulty in completing theses was the motivation to graduate on time (C1) with a gain value of 0.204593531.

Objective: To find out the correlation between parenting style and peer environment with adolescent emotional mental problems in SMP N 2 Sokaraja. Method: This was a quantitative descriptive correlational research with a cross-sectional approach. There were 107 respondents from 7th and 8th grade taken as the research sample using a proportional stratified random sampling technique. The data obtained were analyzed using Chi-Square test. Results: The results showed that 43.9% male respondents and 56,1% female respondents. The average age of the respondents was 13 years. There were three parenting styles applied by the respondents parents namely permissive parenting (25 respondents / 23.4%), authoritarian parenting (44 respondents / 41.1%) and democratic parenting (38 respondents / 35.5%). The peer environment of 41 respondents (38.3%) was in a good category, while that of the rest (66 respondents / 61.7%) was in a poor category. There were 69 respondents (64.5%) who experienced emotional mental problems and the rest (35.5%) did not. Based on the results of the bivariate analysis, the significance level of parenting was 0,000 (0.000 < 0,05) and that of the peer environment was 0.002 (0.002 < 0,05). Conclusion: There is a correlation between parenting style and peer environment with adolescent emotional mental problems in SMP N 2 Sokaraja. Keywords: adolescents, emotional mental, parenting

Abstract In the aftermath of the financial crisis of 2007–2009, the growing body of literature on financial networks has widely documented the predictive power of topological characteristics (e.g., degree centrality measures) to explain the systemic impact or systemic exposure of financial institutions. This study shows that considering alternative topological measures based on local sub-network environment improves our ability to identify systemic institutions. To provide empirical evidence, we apply a two-step procedure. First, we recover network communities (i.e., close-peer environment) on a spillover network of financial institutions. Second, we regress alternative measures of vulnerability (i.e. firm’s losses)on three levels of topological measures: the global level (i.e., firm topological characteristics computed over the whole system), local level (i.e., firm topological characteristics computed over the community to which it belongs), and aggregated level by averaging individual characteristics over the community. The sample includes 46 financial institutions (banks, broker-dealers, and insurance and real-estate companies) listed in the Standard & Poor’s 500 index. Our results confirm the informational content of topological metrics based on a close-peer environment. Such information is different from that embedded in traditional system-wide topological metrics and can help predict distress of financial institutions in times of crisis.

Discrimination at School and its Consequences in the Sphere of the Psychosocial Functioning of Individuals Discrimination is a widespread and firmly established phenomenon in society. Its manifestations can be observed already at the stage of relations between children. School as a natural peer environment is a meeting place for different people with certain characteristics, where some individuals, due to the presence or absence of certain features, differ from the general public and it is the sequalities that cause discriminatory behaviour towards them. Discrimination is based on stereotypes and prejudices formed and functioning in society and has specific consequences for all spheres of life, both for those experiencing discrimination and those discriminating others.
