A unified method of disclosing blind ranges, reducing or eliminating measurement ambiguity has been proposed and investigated, which allows, within the framework of a typical long-range detection session of an air object by a pulse-Doppler radar, to reduce time costs, expand information content, and unify algorithmic support of a detection session. At the heart of: unified adaptive-robust procedures for controlling radiation parameters (guaranteeing the observability of an object) and processing ambiguous quasi-measurements of range (in absence of detection) and real measurement (in initial detection).

The rapid forced transition to distance learning in the spring of 2020 served as an impetus for the development and introduction of new forms of education. Such a massive introduction of distance learning quickly revealed the advantages of traditional full-time education. The first meetings with students after the experimentally remote semester showed a noticeable loss of students of some of the learning skills, for example necessary for working in a team. In addition, it is impossible to teach many technical disciplines qualitatively to a student without his presence in the classroom. In the course of individual remote work with students (which entailed increased time costs), it became clear to teachers which points in the course should be paid more attention to, what to change in the presentation of educational material. Thanks to technological progress, new ways of conducting classes have appeared in a remote form. Such classes can complement traditional full-time education

Abstract Recent research into machines involved in the power generation process has demanded deep investigation of model-based techniques for fault diagnosis and identification. The improvement of critical fault characterisation is crucial in the maintenance process effectiveness, hence in time/costs saving, increasing performance and productivity of the whole system. Consequently, this paper deals with a common fault in hydrodynamically lubricated bearings assembled in rotating systems, namely, that of abrasive wear. Research on this topic points to an interesting query about the significance of model detail and complexity and the identification of its characteristic parameters for the important stages of fault diagnosis and fault identification. For this purpose, two models are presented and analysed in their completeness concerning the fault signature by vibration measurements, as well as the identification of fault critical parameters which determine the machine lifetime estimation, maintenance procedures and time costs regarding performance and productivity. From this study, the detailing in fault modelling has a substantial impact on fault parameter identification, even if its improvement is not so expressive in fault diagnosis procedures involving standard signal processing techniques of vibration signatures.

The article presents the results of a statistical analysis of medium-sized tuna vessels, which made it possible to determine the range of changes in their main elements, choose a prototype vessel and conduct a series of variational studies to determine the influence of the main elements of a tuna vessel (change in the calculated length and width) on its quality. Incorrectly chosen main dimensions in the early stages of design lead to financial and time costs during the design and construction of the vessel. In this regard, it is important at the early stages of design to select the optimal dimensions, to have quality indicators for each of the selected dimensions of the vessel. For the variants of the vessel under consideration, theoretical drawings, curves of the elements of a theoretical drawing were constructed and digitized. Based on the results of studies of seaworthiness (stability check and assessment of towing resistance), as well as analysis of the frequencies of natural vibrations of the hull by the first tone, when changing the calculated length and width of the vessel, the corresponding conclusions were drawn.

Support for region queries is crucial in geographic information systems, which process exact queries through spatial indexing to filter features and subsequently refine the selection. Although the filtering step has been extensively studied, the refinement step has received little attention. This research builds upon the QR−tree index, which decomposes space into hierarchical grids, registers features to the grids, and builds an R−tree for each grid, to develop a new QRB−tree index with two levels of optimization. In the first level, a bucket is introduced in every grid in the QR−tree index to accelerate the loading and search steps of a query region for the grids within the query region. In the second level, the number of candidate features to be eliminated is reduced by limiting the features to those registered to the grids covering the corners of the query region. Subsequently, an approach for determining the maximal grid level, which significantly affects the performance of the QR−tree index, is proposed. Direct comparisons of time costs with the QR−tree index and geohash index show that the QRB−tree index outperforms the other two approaches for rough queries in large query regions and exact queries in all cases.

Purpose As costs continue to rise in oncology, a strategy that has been implemented to limit these costs is use of alternative sites of care. However, there are differences in regulatory standards between common sites of care such as freestanding infusion clinics and hospital outpatient departments. The costs associated with United States Pharmacopeia compliance were evaluated in order to better understand the cost of universally compliant hospital outpatient departments. Methods Annual operational costs associated with United States Pharmacopeia compliance were estimated for a 30-chair infusion clinic with United States Pharmacopeia <797> and <800> pharmacy cleanrooms for non-hazardous and hazardous drugs, respectively. Annual United States Pharmacopeia compliance costs included: competency assessments, personal protective equipment, closed system transfer devices, labels, cleaning supplies, and environmental monitoring. One-time costs included initial cleanroom construction and renovations. Published information and benchmarks provided baseline assumptions for patient volume, staffing, and unit costs. If no published data was available, prices were estimated based on a similarly sized clinic. Results Recurring annual costs for a 30-chair fully compliant infusion clinic were calculated to be $785,207. One-time costs associated with initial construction and renovations were estimated to be $1,365,207–$1,535,207 and $965,207–$1,005,207, respectively. Conclusions Costs associated with increased operational oversight and regulatory standards are a major contributing factor to the facility fee of hospital outpatient departments. Ultimately, all sites of care share in the goal to provide optimal patient care while considering all aspects of patient care, including cost. Therefore, a move towards consistent regulatory standards across all settings would aid in preventing discrepancies in care.

Abstract Primary Subject area Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Background Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) account for over 35% of pediatric in-hospital clinical costs, thus implying that a better understanding of care expenditures within these units is the first step for improving efficiency of care. The Canadian Neonatal Network (CNN) algorithm is the first to provide case-specific costs based on resource usage among preterm infants born < 37 weeks but has not yet been validated for other populations in the NICU. Objectives To validate the CNN costing algorithm in six case-mix categories with real-time costs obtained from hospital-specific financial software (CPSS) in a tertiary-level NICU and assess the variations in proportion of cost centers across case-mixes. Design/Methods A retrospective cohort study of all patients admitted within 24h of birth to a Level 3 medico-surgical NICU 2016-2019. Patient demographics, clinical information and CNN predicted costs were obtained from the CNN database. Real-time costs were obtained from the hospital financial software (CPSS). Total and daily costs were compared between sources using Pearson correlation coefficient (r) and paired Student’s t-test. Costs were adjusted to account for inter-institutional and -provincial price variations using the Cost of Standard Hospitalization Stay from the Canadian Institute for Health Information. Proportions of each cost center across the different case-mix categories were compared using Chi-square analyses. Results Among the 1795 live infants admitted into the NICU, 167 (9.3%) were < 29 weeks gestational age (GA), 193 (11%) were 29-32 weeks GA, 457 (25.5%) were 33-36 weeks GA, 144 (8%) had major congenital anomalies, 179 (10%) were term infants diagnosed with Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE) and 672 (37%) were term infants with no HIE or major congenital anomalies. Median NICU costs varied according to each case-mix from $10,025 for term infants without HIE or congenital anomaly to $180,145 for infants born < 29 weeks (Figure 1). Despite high variation in total NICU costs, there were small variations in median daily costs (range: $1,312-$1,941). Overall, the CNN algorithm strongly correlated with CPSS total costs across all 6 case-mix categories (r range 0.90-1.00, p-value < 0 .01) (Figure 2). We report a consistent strong predictive performance of the algorithm in 5/8 pre-specified cost centers among preterm infants (r range 0.77-0.99, p-value < 0 .01). Unit producing personnel (nurses and physicians) consistently comprised the largest proportion of total costs (64-78%) for all case-mix categories. Conclusion The CNN algorithm accurately predicts NICU total costs for six case-mix categories. Costs per day were comparable across different case-mix categories, and unit producing personnel represented the highest proportion of costs suggesting that reductions in length of stay would be the most efficient method to reduce NICU costs.
