In order to study the vibration influence of tunnel drilling and blasting method on the built tunnel with small clear distance, taking the intersection of Zhuhai Dahengqinshan No. 1 tunnel and Zhuji urban rail tunnel as the engineering background, we used ABAQUS finite element software to conduct numerical simulation analysis on the influence of different blasting loads on existing tunnels with small clear distance in Zhuji tunnel construction. The following conclusions were drawn: the blasting construction of the tunnel under construction had the greatest impact on the vault of the existing tunnel; when the peak load was reduced by half, the stress value, vertical displacement, and resultant velocity of Mises were also reduced by half, which indicates that reducing the peak value of blasting load appropriately can ensure the safety of tunnel construction. When the peak load is 2.7 MPa, the measured and simulated values were less than the resultant velocity limit required by the specification. In addition, the relative error between the measured value and the simulated value was less than 5%, indicating the accuracy of the numerical simulation.

In recent years, with the increasement of the railway expansion projects, the blasting damage has caused great threat to the safety of the existing tunnel structure. However, few researches are carried out on the influence of tunnel blasting construction on existing small-angle crossing tunnel structure. In this study, the dynamic response of existing tunnel structure to the blasting activities in newly built tunnel is analyzed by numerical simulation. From the comparison of vibration velocity, lining stress, and the displacement of the existing tunnel structure, the blasting methods, surrounding rock condition, cross angle, and clear distance are proven to be the highly correlated factors for the dynamic response of the existing tunnel to blasting. Then, combined with the analytic hierarchy process, the vibration velocity is selected as the optimal index to indicate the dynamic response to blasting activities.

Blasting has been widely used for economical and rapid rock excavation in civil and mining engineering. In order to study the influence of relative horizontal distance and relative vertical distance between two tunnels on the dynamical response of the two tunnels, 10 numerical simulation cases are done by LS-DYNA 3D models under surface explosion by controlling the clear distance and height difference of double-line tunnel, and the ALE multimaterial fluid structure coupling algorithm is applied to analyze the dynamic response characteristics of double-line tunnel under different conditions. The numerical results show that the dynamic response characteristics of the tunnel lining are affected by the change of the clear distance and height difference of the tunnel. With the increase of the height difference between adjacent tunnels, the peak value of vibration velocity at the top of the lining on the blast face increases, which is due to the upward elevation of the right tunnel, which is more conducive to the reflection and superposition of stress waves. When the height difference of tunnel is 4–6 m, the vibration velocity and displacement of monitoring point C on the back blasting side will change abruptly, and the variation range of vibration velocity is about 25%, while the variation range of displacement is about 60%.

The interaction between the double-track shield tunnel and the integrated pipe gallery is complex, and there is still a lack of systematic research. Based on the numerical simulation of the Xi’an case, this paper studies the influence of the construction of the integrated pipe gallery on the deformation characteristics of the existing double-line subway tunnels with different buried depths and clear distances and finds the safe buried depth and clear distance of the tunnel. The results indicated that, in the loess area, the maximum deformation of the existing subway has a linear and inverse relationship with the buried depth and spacing, respectively. Increasing the buried depth can reduce the impact of the upper construction disturbance more than increasing the clear distance ratio. Moreove, under the design conditions of constructing a utility tunnel by the open-cut method, when the buried depth of the tunnel is 4.5 D and the spacing is greater than 4.5 D, or the buried depth is 5.0 D and the spacing is greater than 2.5 D, the combination of subway tunnels can meet the deformation control standards.

AbstractThe abstract concept of time is mentally represented as a spatially oriented line, with the past associated with the left space and the future associated with the right. Although the line is supposed to be continuous, most available evidence is also consistent with a categorical representation that only discriminates between past and future. The aim of the present study was to test the continuous or categorical nature of the mental timeline. Italian participants judged the temporal reference of 20 temporal expressions by pressing keys on either the left or the right. In Experiment 1 (N = 32), all words were presented at the center of the screen. In Experiment 2 (N = 32), each word was presented on the screen in a central, left, or right position. In Experiment 3 (N = 32), all text was mirror-reversed. In all experiments, participants were asked to place the 20 temporal expressions on a 10-cm line. The results showed a clear Spatial–TEmporal Association of Response Codes (STEARC) effect which did not vary in strength depending on the location of the temporal expressions on the line. However, there was also a clear Distance effect: latencies were slower for words that were closer to the present than further away. We conclude that the mental timeline is a continuous representation that can be used in a categorical way when an explicit past vs. future discrimination is required by the task.

AbstractThe present research exposes the investigation on three-dimensional modeling of the single and twin metro tunnels for the case of the Tehran metro line. At first, simulation implemented on the comparison of the ground movements in the single and twin tunnels. Then the simulation has been performed on the influence of effective parameters of EPB-TBM on the surface settlements throughout excavation. The overcutting, shield conicity, grouting, and the final lining system modeled and the influence of face supporting pressure, grout injection pressure, as well as the clear distance of the tunnels, has been analyzed. The initial results showed a valid ground settlement behavior. The maximum settlements occurred at the end of the shield tail and it was higher in the single tunnel. The face supporting pressure had more effect on the surface settlement in comparison to the grout injection pressure. By increasing the face pressure in the single tunnel, the place of maximum settlement moved back while the grout pressure is insignificant for decreasing the settlements. Furthermore, the influence of the clear distance in the twin tunnels led to zero after the length of 30 m. Accordingly, for more distances, the tunnels must be examined independently and as two different single tunnels.

Many problems are encountered in the construction of bifurcated tunnels due the abrupt change in section, small clear distance, and large section. Progress in the direction of tunnel construction is limited by the large-span section; therefore, a special method of construction that involves constructing a guiding tunnel first followed by reverse excavation was adopted to construct the large-span bifurcation section of the Liantang tunnel of Shenzhen Eastern Transit Expressway in China. The stability criterion of the surrounding rock of the middle wall in the section of multiple arch and small clear distance is studied by theoretical analysis, and the internal stress and corresponding ultimate strength of the middle wall under different buried depths and widths of the middle wall are calculated by the stability criterion. In this study, 3D finite-difference software was used to simulate the excavation process under forward and reverse excavation conditions. The results show that the displacement field and internal force field distribution are similar for both excavation methods, and the tunneling first and reverse excavation construction method is safe and reliable.

Hanping tunnel is a control project of national highway 310 Dahejia to Qingshui highway project. It needs to cross a 330kV high-voltage transmission line under the condition of small clear distance, which requires high construction requirements. In view of the difficulties such as shallow buried depth of tunnel and small clear distance between tunnel and tower of high-voltage line, multiple excavation blasting method is adopted, and smooth blasting, charge quantity control and damping hole setting are comprehensively used to reduce the impact on the tower and structure of high-voltage line. In order to ensure the smooth progress of the project, the large-scale finite element analysis software is used to simulate the whole excavation project. The influence of the full-section method and the middle partition wall method (CD method) on the surrounding rock and the high-voltage electric tower is compared. It is found that the CD method can effectively control the displacement of the surrounding rock and the tower on it and the uneven settlement.
