Eggshells are the hard, outer covering of eggs. It is known that eggshells are discarded as waste materials, although they contain a significant amount of calcium. The study was aimed to extract and quantify calcium from the eggshells and fortification on the biscuit and yogurt products. The extraction of calcium was done using calcium chloride with HCL solution at different propositions (1:1, 1:5, 1:10, 1:15, and 1:20). After extraction, the sample was dried at 50 °C temperature for 3 hours to obtain dry calcium chloride. Calcium was fortified at a concentration of 100 ppm, 1000 ppm, and 2000 ppm in both the biscuits and yogurt, respectively. The calcium-fortified samples were analyzed for sensory properties and chemical composition. The ash content of calcium-fortified yogurt (0.47) was slightly higher than normal yogurt (0.44), while the other chemical components remains similar to the control. For the sensory evaluation result, the biscuit with 2000 ppm calcium-fortified biscuit and 1000 ppm calcium-fortified yogurt was found to be highly acceptable among the calcium-fortified samples. The extraction of calcium chloride from eggshells was obtained the highest for eggshells on HCl ratio 1:20 (w/v) where calcium chloride was found 32.92%, 26.95%, and 23.63% for duck, layer chicken, and local chicken eggshells, respectively. The extraction rate of calcium chloride of duck eggshells was higher than the local and layer chicken’s eggshells. Therefore, it may be opined that the fortified products (2000 ppm Ca) contained a considerably higher amount of calcium content than the control sample.

Citrus limon is a very demanding plant to grow totally intolerant of frost. Although the peel of citrus is bitter in taste if it is eaten as a raw but it also play a major role in making of marmalade or other soups. Peel is the protective outer covering or outer skin of the fruit. The peel is used against digestion, peptic, ulcer, scurvy, eye infections, respiratory disorders, gums, piles, skin care, weight loss etc. The objectives of the study is to dehydrate the selected sample, to formulate the value added product pulka, to find out the acceptability of value added products by organoleptic evaluation and to know the glycemic index level by the effect of Citrus limon The Citrus limon samples were cleaned, cut into pieces, inner white fleshly part is removed separately, cleaned, peels were removed separately, cut into small pieces, dry in an air oven drying, powdered, seived and stored in air tight container for future use. The pulka were formulated in four different variations V0, V1, V2 and V3. Sensory assessment was evaluated based on the quality descriptions. Around 80 subjects who were willing to participate in the experimental study were included with prior permission or concern from subjects. They were selected in-between the age of 30-40 years, with body mass index of 16.5 to 26.3 kg/m2, normal blood pressure and not suffering from any ailments. Eighty subjects were divided into four groups with 20 subjects in each group. The result revealed that the appearance of standard pulka followed by V3 pulka shows the best and the V2 shows the least result. Based on the colour of the product V1 shows the best and V3 shows the least result. The flavor of the product V3 followed by V0 shows the best. The V3 variation shows the best for the taste of the product compared to V1 and V2 variation. The result revealed that among the four groups the sample pulka consumed subjects shows the best result. The blood glucose level gets reduced during the consumption of 0.4gm Hot air oven dried Citrus limon peel incorporated pulka. Thus the present study conclude that the Citrus limon peel was dehydrated and the value added product Pulka was developed in various proportion and the acceptability of the value added product was done by the organoleptic evaluation. The present study demonstrated that Pulka shows the best result.

Abstract Background The maize husk consists of numerous leafy layers and plays vital roles in protecting the ear from pathogen infection and dehydration. Teosinte, the wild ancestor of maize, has about three layers of small husk outer covering the ear. Although several quantitative trait loci (QTL) underlying husk morphology variation have been reported, the genetic basis of husk traits between teosinte and maize remains unclear. Results A linkage population including 191 BC2F8 inbred lines generated from the maize line Mo17 and the teosinte line X26–4 was used to identify QTL associated with three husk traits: i.e., husk length (HL), husk width (HW) and the number of husk layers (HN). The best linear unbiased predictor (BLUP) depicted wide phenotypic variation and high heritability of all three traits. The HL exhibited greater correlation with HW than HN. A total of 4 QTLs were identified including 1, 1, 2, which are associated with HL, HW and HN, respectively. The proportion of phenotypic variation explained by these QTLs was 9.6, 8.9 and 8.1% for HL, HN and HW, respectively. Conclusions The QTLs identified in this study will pave a path to explore candidate genes regulating husk growth and development, and benefit the molecular breeding program based on molecular marker-assisted selection to cultivate maize varieties with an ideal husk morphology.

The presence of chalky deposits or hard outer covering and extraneous matter are some reasons for product downgrading of dried sandfish, Holothuria scabra, locally known as balat or balatan. Various amounts of fresh papaya leaves, namely, 50, 75, 100, 150, and 200 grams, were used to test its effectiveness in removing the hard spiculy layer on cooked sandfish and assessing its product quality. Results showed that using 75 grams of papaya leaves with 80 minutes of brushing time was found to be effective as 71-85% of the hard spiculy layer was removed. The final products’ colors were black to brown, no off-odor or decomposition detected, with a hard texture and completely dried product. The mean water activity (Aw) was 0.787, an amount within the range of 0.80-0.60 for dried foods, and the mean moisture content was 4.31%, which is far below the acceptable limit of 15% for dried sea cucumber. In addition, the dried sandfish had 69.5% protein, 1.42% fat, 1.88% total carbohydrates, and 298 kcal food energy. The study was conducted on a laboratory scale only, and commercialization should be carried out.

Nose's Paranasal sinus & malignant melanoma are rarely seen, bold tumor with a prevalence rates of 0.68 percent across every malignant tumor. The neuroectodermal cells which are termed as Melanomas are found in skin's base layer, iris’s vascular intraocular coat, skin adnexa, & infrequently into outer covering of mucous. Blockage feeling of nose & bleeding from the nose are the symptoms which are most commonly reported, however patient may have symptoms that are nonspecific, leading to a delay in diagnosis which results in appropriate prediction of treatment's outcome.  This study defines a 70 years female with the history of nose blockage feeling. Physicians suggest performing Nose’s CT scan, in which they came to know that large polypoidal portion in right nostril, extending to the nasopharynx, and eroded part of the sinus wall, septum and right medial pterygoid plate. Immunochemical study done revealed positive results for S100, vimentin, & HMB-45, which made the outcome suitable for tumor. An individual suffering from this will have no recurrence.

Tooth enamel is the outer covering of tooth crowns, the hardest material in the mammalian body, yet fracture resistant. The extremely high content of 95 wt% calcium phosphate in healthy adult teeth is achieved through mineralization of a proteinaceous matrix that changes in abundance and composition. Enamel-specific proteins and proteases are known to be critical for proper enamel formation. Recent proteomics analyses revealed many other proteins with their roles in enamel formation yet to be unraveled. Although the exact protein composition of healthy tooth enamel is still unknown, it is apparent that compromised enamel deviates in amount and composition of its organic material. Why these differences affect both the mineralization process before tooth eruption and the properties of erupted teeth will become apparent as proteomics protocols are adjusted to the variability between species, tooth size, sample size and ephemeral organic content of forming teeth. This review summarizes the current knowledge and published proteomics data of healthy and diseased tooth enamel, including advancements in forensic applications and disease models in animals. A summary and discussion of the status quo highlights how recent proteomics findings advance our understating of the complexity and temporal changes of extracellular matrix composition during tooth enamel formation.
