Purpose-This paper aims to investigate factors that affect customer switching from Internal Combustion Engine Vehicles (ICEV’s) to Hybrid Electrical Vehicles (HEV’s), in Jordan for the period of (2010-2014).Design/methodology/approach-A self-administered survey was hand-delivered to the targeted sample of car users in Jordan. The authors delivered 400 questionnaires to customers, from which 333 were deemed valid for the analysis, corresponding to the percentage of (83.25%) which indicates the validity of the study. Findings- There was no difference in switching behavior between (ICEV’s) and (HEV’s) based on gender in the Jordanian market. Fuel consumption efficiency was the number one variable that supports the switching behavior towards (HEV's), followed by Eco friendliness, lower taxes and technological features. Price and the current trend in the market were the least supporting factors. In addition to that the perception of the battery life of (HEV's), limited choices in the market, lack of information and fear of the relatively new technology were the major hindering factors of choosing an (HEV).Research limitations-Future research needs to investigate other factors that may affect customers’ behavior such as perceived image, trust, and subjective norms. Future research should investigate into the importance of environmental awareness and new technologies, and gender differences in behavior. From an international marketing standpoint, comparative studies between Jordanian and non-Jordanian customers are potential areas of future research for international marketing strategies and cross-cultural consumer behaviour analysis. Practical implications-The paper identifies the determinants of switching behavior. marketers should focus addressing customers concerns in terms of providing enough information and building awareness towards the technology and it's benefits towards the society and the environment.Originality/value-Our study is one of the few in Jordan that investigates the switching behavior towards vehicles technology. Our study is thought to have made a modest contribution to consumer behaviour literature and, specifically, for decision making process. It offers marketers insights into the determinants of switching behavior towards the hybrid vechicle technology and how this contribute to consumers’ decision making process and attitudes to achieve the intended behavioural outcomes

First observation of switching behavior is reported in GaAs metal-insulator-p-n+structure, where the thin insulator is grown at low temperature by a liquid phase chemical-enhanced oxide (LPECO) with a thickness of 100 Å. A significant S-shaped negative differential resistance (NDR) is shown to occur that originates from the regenerative feedback in a tunnel metal/insulator/semiconductor (MIS) interface andp-n+junction. The influence of epitaxial doping concentration on the switching and holding voltages is investigated. The switching voltages are found to be decreased when increasing the epitaxial doping concentration, while the holding voltages are almost kept constant. A high turn-off/turn-on resistance ratio up to105has been obtained.

AbstractIn this work, we report the formation of a new type of active or “smart” surface that is produced by ion implantation and thermal processing. By co-implanting vanadium and oxygen into a single-crystal sapphire substrate and annealing the system under appropriate conditions, it was possible to form buried precipitates of vanadium dioxide that were crystallographically oriented with respect to the host AI2O3 lattice. The implanted VO2 precipitate system undergoes a structural phase transition that is accompanied by large variations in the optical transmission which are comparable to those observed for thin films of VO2 deposited on sapphire. Co-implantation with oxygen was found to be necessary to ensure good optical switching behavior.

Large device variation is a fundamental challenge for resistive random access memory (RRAM) array circuit. Improved device-to-device distributions of set and reset voltages in a SiNx RRAM device is realized via arsenic ion (As+) implantation. Besides, the As+-implanted SiNx RRAM device exhibits much tighter cycle-to-cycle distribution than the nonimplanted device. The As+-implanted SiNx device further exhibits excellent performance, which shows high stability and a large 1.73 × 103 resistance window at 85 °C retention for 104 s, and a large 103 resistance window after 105 cycles of the pulsed endurance test. The current–voltage characteristics of high- and low-resistance states were both analyzed as space-charge-limited conduction mechanism. From the simulated defect distribution in the SiNx layer, a microscopic model was established, and the formation and rupture of defect-conductive paths were proposed for the resistance switching behavior. Therefore, the reason for such high device performance can be attributed to the sufficient defects created by As+ implantation that leads to low forming and operation power.

The purpose of this study is to understand fashion consumers’ channel switching to online stores during the COVID-19. We proposed an extended theory of planned behavior by incorporating protection motivation theory. The results showed that consumer assessments of perceived severity and altruistic fear of COVID-19 and response efficacy and self-efficacy of channel switching increased their beliefs (i.e., attitude, perceived behavior control, subjective norm) and intentions to switch shopping channels to online. We also found that the age (young vs. old) moderated the effects of response efficacy and self-efficacy on perceived behavior control, perceived severity on subjective norm, perceived behavior control on channel switching intentions, and channel switching intention on actual switching behavior. The findings provide fashion retailers and the society with a better understanding about fashion consumers’ shopping channel switching under the pandemic.

AbstractWhen alternative market institutions are available, traders have to decide both where and how much to trade. We conducted an experiment where traders decided first whether to trade in an (efficient) double-auction institution or in a posted-offers one (favoring sellers), and second how much to trade. When sellers face decreasing returns to scale (increasing production costs), fast coordination on the double-auction occurs, with the posted-offers institution becoming inactive. In contrast, under constant returns to scale, both institutions remain active and coordination is slower. The reason is that sellers trade off higher efficiency in a market with dwindling profits for biased-up profits in a market with vanishing customers. Hence, efficiency alone might not be sufficient to guarantee coordination on a single market institution if the surplus distribution is asymmetric. Trading behavior approaches equilibrium predictions (market clearing) within each institution, but switching behavior across institutions is explained by simple rules of thumb, with buyers chasing low prices and sellers considering both prices and trader ratios.

The suitability of GaN PCSSs (photoconductive semiconductor switches) as high voltage switches (>50 kV) was studied using a variety of commercially available semi-insulating GaN wafers as the base material. Analysis revealed that the wafers’ physical properties were noticeably diverse, mainly depending on the producer. High Voltage PCSSs were fabricated in both vertical and lateral geometry with various contacts, ohmic (Ti/Al/Ni/Au or Ni/Au), with and without a conductive n-GaN or p-type layer grown by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition. Inductively coupled plasma (ICP) reactive ion etching (RIE) was used to form a mesa structure to reduce field enhancements allowing for a higher field to be applied before electrical breakdown. The length of the active region was also varied from a 3 mm gap spacing to a 600 µm gap spacing. The shorter gap spacing supports higher electric fields since the number of macro defects within the device’s active region is reduced. Such defects are common in hydride vapor phase epitaxy grown samples and are likely one of the chief causes for electrical breakdown at field levels below the bulk breakdown field of GaN. Finally, the switching behavior of PCSS devices was tested using a pulsed, high voltage testbed and triggered by an Nd:YAG laser. The best GaN PCSS fabricated using a 600 µm gap spacing, and a mesa structure demonstrated a breakdown field strength as high as ~260 kV/cm.
