How to Reveal the Meaning of Space in Vernacular Architecture?

Vernacular architecture is a modest style of building used to maintain the balance of human relations with nature. This architectural style is specific to a region and passed down from one generation to another to embody cultural values. However, its development is currently facing globalization and modernization challenges, thereby leading to a gradual shift of this ancestral heritage to modern buildings. Change is unavoidable due to continuous evolution, however, the meaning inherent architecture buildings need to be maintained because it contains the cultural and social values of the associated local community. Furthermore, vernacular building space is a place for social activities and contains historical meaning applicable to modern buildings. Its functionality responds to changes and the needs of times while maintaining the local essence. Therefore, this research aims to determine the suitable method needed to reveal the meaning of vernacular architectural space. Data were collected from the conscious mind of space users through in-depth interviews by applying epoche, which were further reduced, categorized, and integrated to determine its meaning. The data collected through a literature review were analyzed using the content analysis method. The results showed that transcendental phenomenology is the right method to determine the meaning of vernacular architectural space. Based on the results, it is concluded that the meaning passed down from one generation to another could be expressed through the conscious experience of space users. Furthermore, transcendental phenomenology helped reveal the meaning without the intervention of the author’s knowledge, therefore it is unbiased and applicable in modern buildings.

From the turn of the century into the early 1970s, the Choutla Anglican residential school at Carcross in the Yukon Territory was home to generations of Tagish and Tlingit children. Victims of an assimilationist educational ideology that separated them from their families for at least ten months of the year, many children were denied the teachings of their elders, the right to speak their native language and, as a result, many aspects of their identity as native people. The Tagish and Tlingit community at Carcross has since come to terms with the pain and loss associated with the Choutla school and has become empowered to move beyond the extreme paternalism of the residential school era to greater self-determination and a deep sense of cultural identity. It is symbolic that in the very place where the native languages were aggressively decimated by the residential school policies, members of the local community are taking control of information technology to ensure the revival of the Tagish language. Control over technology has in this case facilitated the assertion of authority over every way their language is represented and made it possible for their cultural values and practices to define the nature of such representations.

Education is the most important factor in efforts to develop potential and knowledge and cultural values. In the context of a society that has diversity in various aspects ranging from religion, ethnicity, ethnicity to culture, it needs deep understanding as well as awareness of the importance of multicultural education to maintain togetherness and integrity of a nation. In an effort to realize these efforts, multicullural education is interpreted as a process of understanding the diversity that exists and the similarities to be able to respect each other. In order to realize an understanding of multiculturalism, it must be endeavored in the right way, namely through education. The focus of this research is (l) what is the concept of multicultural education according to Nadirsyah Hosen? (2) how is the relevance of Nadirsyah Hosen's multicultural education concept with the aim of Islamic education? In order to find answers to the above questions, the authors conducted research using a library research research approach or commonly referred to as literature review research. Sources of data obtained for this research library research can be in the form of research journals, dissertations, theses, theses, research reports, text books, papers, seminar reports, and / or official publications of the government or other institutions. The references are then processed using the content analysis method which aims to obtain the contents of the data and information then analyzed with a deductive thinking model, which departs from general theory to find applicative conclusions. The findings in this study are as follows: (l) The concept of multicultural education in Nadirsyah Hosen's view is to implement education that engages students who are not only intellectually intelligent but aware of national diversity. Providing equal opportunities to all students in obtaining education regardless of differences in racial, cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds, in order to avoid discriminatory attitudes, fanaticism so as to form a tolerant attitude, respect for differences and culture. (2) Nadirsyah Hosen's thoughts regarding multicultural education are relevant to the goals of Islamic education. In Islam it is explained that the purpose of education is in accordance with the purpose of the creation of Allah's creatures. Becoming the unifier of the nation forms human beings who not only worship Allah or Ghair Mahdah but also respect the diversity of the nation which is known as mahdah worship. The relation with multicultural education is that religion has strong foundations in implementing education that understands a pluralistic nation

Abstract. The richness of the historical landscape environments of the popular architecture which is often built with vernacular systems whose technology and knowledge are transmitted from generation to generation through practice, suffers a series of threats caused by the irruption of new architecture models and the use of industrialized materials. Also the social factors have built stigmata and contempt or undervaluation for traditional ways of solving the habitat or architecture of community interest such as communal houses, temples, etc. This has caused a loss of quality and personality in the environments in which rural and marginal urban communities live in ecuadorian territory. One of the factors clearly identified as driving this breakdown of the natural process of loss of wisdom and knowledge, has been the distancing of new generations from what their parents do or did. Many times falsely articulated to a denial of local culture itself and ostentation on the basis of architecture unrelated to the place. With these considerations as a backdrop, a workshop for adults and children was set up. The objective was to build intergenerational bridges and to foster an appreciation of vernacular architecture, jointly discovering the benefits and the nobility of this way of doing architecture, and articulating it with the patrimonial values of the place. This article analyzes an experience applied between the years 2018 and 2019, in the community of Susudel, in Ecuador.

A partir de uma pesquisa teórico-normativa e descritiva, busca-se descrever a Educação em Direitos Humanos (EDH) na educação básica, que está traçada na 1ª fase do Programa Mundial para Educação em Direitos Humanos (PMEDH) e no Plano Nacional de Educação em Direitos Humanos (PNEDH). Consoante o primeiro, a EDH na educação básica é direito de todas as crianças, e prática educativa que deve ser desenvolvida nos sistemas de ensino primário e secundário; e, segundo o último, ainda, na comunidade escolar em interação com a comunidade local. Constata-se que a concepção de EDH contida nesses documentos é permeada pelo elemento da universalidade, havendo resguardo da diversidade quanto à prática.  Based on a normative and descriptive research, the goal is to describe Human Rights Education (HRE) in basic education that is outlined in the first phase of the World Program for Human Rights Education (WPHRE) and in the National Human Rights Education Plan (NHREP). According to first, HRE in basic education is the right of all children and the educational practice that must be developed in primary and secondary education systems; and, according to latter, still in the interation between the school community and the local community. It is verified that the concept of HRE contained in these documents is permeated by universality, protecting the diversity in the practice.

There are hundreds of Palembang songket motifs that have not </em><em>been </em><em>documented and collected well. O</em><em>nly</em><em> 77 motifs </em><em>which</em><em> have </em><em>been </em><em>registered </em><em>as</em><em> intellectual property rights. </em><em>The lack attention of this matter would give </em><em>possibility </em><em>for</em><em> neighboring </em><em>countries</em><em> </em><em>to claim it such an accident ever exist.</em><em> Songket Museum </em><em>is needed as</em><em> conservation</em><em> center</em><em>, exhibit</em><em>ion</em><em>, research, and songket craft workshop.</em><em> </em><em>Neo-Vernacular Architecture approach </em><em>is </em><em>used to</em><em> make museum </em><em>architectural design </em><em>which is </em><em>in </em><em>line </em><em>the cultural values of Palembang in contemporary design</em><em>. Local wisdom that exist nowadays is facing challenge that threaten its preservation, so that it begins to eroded by the development of technology, which has adoption process of innovation and the diffusion of technology adoption. Understanding the local wisdom would be clear that local wisdom becomes important in managing natural resources and conserving environment. The purpose of this research is to revitalize and preserve the local wisdom of the indigenous community at Kampung Kuta, Ciamis Regency, West Java. The benefits of this research will be used for revitalization and preservation of local wisdom and revitalize the values and cultural norms contained in regulating the life of community.The research method and planning that would be applied in this revitalization and  preservation of cultural  is Participatory Planning and Research (PPR) which emphasize on excavate information through thorough inquiry toward local community. Share with the community, to talk about how to empower local community and furthermore to carry out the useful planning for local community.Design of revitalization and preservation of local wisdom; the establisment of local wisdom group with training and learning program; the management of indigenous group continuously; spread widely local wisdom to its supporter with instilling cultural values and local wisdom as a contain of local wisdom; plan regeneration agent and the supporter of local wisdom as a part of inheritance of culture.Revitalization and preservation of local wisdom in educational environment at Kampung Kuta custom produce : cultural tradition management; help and support for cultural development; promoting and introducing cultural tradition to the outside community. Religious counselors are like doctors who will give medicine, so he must make a thorough diagnosis in order to have a picture of the right conditions, what diseases suffered by patients, what medications are right, and what level of health might be built with the drug.Similarly, the extension of religion, if it is intended to improve the condition of society, it is necessary for him to start the activity by first knowing the objective condition of the object of da'wah, which then followed up with various activities of da'wah appropriate, effective and efficient. Efforts to determine the objective conditions mad'u it, the authors do through research mapping da'wah in Bandung.This research was conducted on the academic community of Dakwah Faculty who actively conducted mapping of da'wah in Bandung. Using qualitative methods. Through interviewing techniques and documentation.The results showed that mapping of da'wah is a very basic need in religious education activities. It is useful to facilitate the analysis of religious counseling objects, so that the counselor can properly present the material, methods and media used in religious counseling, in accordance with the conditions and needs of the local community. With that mapping, religious counseling basically will not only shaped the message of Islamic teachings, but is moving towards religious social change.

Humans as caliphs in the world must preserve the environment because human survival is very dependent on the environment. In encouraging the preservation of the environment, the community must live up to the values of wisdom that support the maintenance and preservation of the environment. However, in the digital age, this has led to a shift in cultural values of local wisdom. These values are increasingly fading because media exposure is increasingly dominating all human life. As experienced by the community in Cimanggu Village, Ngamprah District, West Bandung. They recognize that there are changes and shifts in cultural values. The focus of this research is to look at the cultural values  of local wisdom that exist in the village and how the meaning of the shift in cultural values  of local wisdom by the media for the local community. This research is qualitative research with a phenomenological study approach. Data collection techniques using observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies. The results of the study revealed that the cultural values  of local wisdom in the Cimanggu village were (1) Ngahiras, (2) Nyalin, (3) Tarawangsa, (4) Palak Science, (5) Palakiah, and (6) Kotok Jewer. The meaning of shifting the cultural values of local wisdom by the media for the local community includes: (1) Village communities perceive technological media as making rural communities more consumptive, (2) creating a shift in the professional direction of rice farmers into vegetable growers, and (3) Media exposure has a positive side as well as the negative side.

To control / supervise the implementation of Islamic Shari'at in the field the Regional Government establishes a Wilayatul Hisbah (WH) body whose work procedures and authorities are regulated in the Decree of the Governor of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam Number 01 of 2004. In applying certain aspects of sharia law. Therefore, improving the quality of human resources through the Islamic structural values approach is considered by many to be the right step, because it can control deviations and is also in accordance with the cultural values of the Acehnese people, which have historically been known with three features, namely, education , religion and customs.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to highlight the importance of vernacular architecture and traditional knowledge to building resilience in Nepal and the impact of modernisation on that resilience and architectural diversity. Design/methodology/approach Using an action research approach, including field observations and discussions with local community members, artisans, architects, engineers and other international experts, the study examines the resilience of traditional building typologies to natural hazards in Nepal, including earthquake; the changes that have occurred over time leading to the failure and/or rejection of traditional construction; and a review of post-earthquake reconstruction options, both traditional and modern. Findings Although traditional approaches have been cyclically tested over time, this study found that changes in building materials, technologies, knowledge and skills, access to resources, maintenance practices, urban environments and societal aspirations have all contributed to the popular rejection of vernacular architecture following the earthquakes. Research limitations/implications The research is limited to traditional timber and masonry construction in the Kathmandu Valley and surrounding mountain areas. Practical implications To improve resilience the study identifies the need for capacity building in both traditional and modern construction technologies; adoption of approaches that use local materials, knowledge and skills, whilst addressing local timber shortages and access issues; a transparent construction certification system; good drainage; and regular maintenance. Originality/value The study critically evaluates the impact of technological, environmental, social and economic changes over time on the resilience of vernacular housing in Nepal.
