Pterygium is a degenerative and invasive disorder of the subconjunctival tissue that can reach the cornea area which is become a worldwide health problem. UV exposure is the biggest risk factor for pterygium. A profession as a fisherman is one of the occupations that are often related to the appearance of pterygium, because of long-term exposure to UV rays. This study aimed to determine the correlation between age and duration as a fisherman with the degree of pterygium in Kedung Cowek village, Bulak Surabaya district, East Java - Indonesia. The research design was an analytic observational using consecutive sampling during March - July 2011; with the total number of respondents is 42 fishermen who met the inclusion criteria. The results of the statistical analysis test showed that there was a strong and significant relationship between the age of the fishermen (p = 0.007; coefficient correlation = 502) and the duration of working as a fisherman (p = 0.029; coefficient correlation = 409) with the severity of the pterygium. Based on these results it can be concluded that the age and duration of work as fishermen are related to the severity of the pterygium in fishermen in the Kedung Cowek sub-district, Surabaya, East Java-Indonesia.

ABSTRACTObjectives: The purpose of the present study was to determine whether there was a relationship between periodontal diseases and ABO blood groups. Methods: This epidemiological study was carried out on 1351 subjects who were randomly selected from individuals referred to the Faculty of Dentistry clinics for periodontal treatment or for other reasons regarding dental health. The study based on periodontal condition, blood group, and medical history. The subjects were divided into three groups as those with gingivitis, periodontitis, and the healthy ones. The effects of blood subgroups on periodontal health, gingivitis and periodontitis were investigated separately. Results: A relatively higher percentage of A group patients was found in gingivitis group and relatively higher percentage of O group patients was found in periodontitis group. A significant relationship was also determined between Rh factor and gingivitis. Conclusions: ABO blood subgroups and Rh factor may constitute a risk factor on the development of periodontal disease. However, long-term studies are needed to make a more comprehensive assessment of the effects of ABO group on periodontal diseases. (Eur J Dent 2007;1:139-143)

Sleep disturbance is a common problem following concussion. A retrospective chart review was conducted at a regional concussion clinic on patients 13 to 18 years of age between 2005 and 2011. Statistical analysis evaluated sleep disturbance and duration of concussion, as well as the use and effectiveness of melatonin. A total of 417 patients met inclusion criteria. One hundred twenty-three (34%) reported disturbance in sleep. There was no difference in sleep disturbance based on age, gender, or past number of concussions. Sleep disturbance was associated with a 3- to 4-fold increase in recovery time. Non–sport-related concussions were more likely to be associated with sleep disturbance compared to sport-related concussions (45% vs 29%, P = .01). Melatonin improved sleep disturbance in 67% of the patients. Evaluating sleep disorders following concussion is an important part of the assessment. These findings will help clinicians provide anticipatory guidance and treatment for adolescents recovering from concussion.

Short stunted stature is a condition where z-score for height per age is less than -2 SD. Stunted children have a risk of 3,4 times being obese adolescents. In stunted adolescents, there is a disruption of the fat oxidation process that can cause obesity. In addition, stunted adolescents are less active than non-stunted. The purpose of this study was to determine whether a sedentary lifestyle is a factor that increases the risk of obesity in stunted adolescents. This study is an analytical study with a cross sectional research design. The participants are 63 adolescent selected by purposive sampling. Measurement include z-score height per age and BMI per age. Sedentary lifestyle is determined using modified Adolescent Sedentary Activity Questionnaire (ASAQ) and it categorize high if ≥5 hours per day. Data was analyzed by Chi-square. Proportion of stunted obesity in SMPN 1 and 2 Pasar Kemis in Tangerang Distric is 44,4%. There was significant relationship between sedentary lifestyle and obesity in stunted adolescent (p=0,001). Sedentary lifestyle are factors that increase the risk of stunted obesity in adolescents of SMPN 1 and 2 Pasar Kemis in Tangerang Distric. From the results of this study, it is hoped that institutions will continue to provide guidance and outreach to students so that obesity does not occur stunted.

Hypertension is an increase in systolic and diastolic blood pressure of more than 140 mmHg and90 mmHg. Captopril and Amlodipin are the most commonly used antihypertensive drugs, especially in Sungai Jingah Health Center. Long-term use is most likely to cause side effects. The level of knowledge of patients about side effects is very influential in knowing the early signs of the emergence of side effects and can prevent complications caused by side effects. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of patient knowledge about the side effects of captopril and amlodipine drugs at Sungai Jingah Health Center. This research is a non-experimental observational study. The population used was all hypertensive patients who received captopril and amlodipine drugs at the Sungai Jingah Health Center in April-May 2019. Samples were taken with consecutive sampling techniques that met the inclusion criteria of 55 patients. The research instrument used a questionnaire sheet that had been tested for validity and reliability consisting of 4 statements about the side effects of captopril and 5 items about the side effects of amlodipine. The data obtained is recapitulated and calculated using the percentage formula for each statement then presented descriptively. The results of the research on the level of knowledge about the side effects of captopril and amlodipine showed that out of 55 respondents 80.00% had a low level of knowledge, 3.64% had sufficient knowledge and 16.36% had good knowledge. The conclusion of this study is that the level of knowledge of patient knowledge about the side effects of captopril and amlodipine is in the low category (80.00%).

AbstractThis study investigated the association between sleep disorders and depression in adolescents, PubMed/MedLine, SciELO and Lilacs databases were consulted, with an interval of 7 years (2013–2019), in English, Portuguese and Spanish. An integrative review was carried out where after analyzing the inclusion criteria, 616 articles were selected for reading titles and abstracts and 94 of these were selected for full reading. After the full reading, 15 articles were elected to be part of this review. Results show that both sleep disorders are risk factors for depression, as depression can be a risk factor for sleep disorders. Insomnia was the most frequent sleep disorder in adolescence, besides being considered a public health problem. It is concluded that sleep disorders and depressive symptoms are associated and present with great frequency in the adolescent public.

A focus on the study of development and other kinds of changes in the whole individual has been one of the hallmarks of research by Magnusson and his colleagues. A number of different approaches emphasize this individual focus in their respective ways. This presentation focuses on intraindividual variability stemming from Cattell's P-technique factor analytic proposals, making several refinements to make it more tractable from a research design standpoint and more appropriate from a statistical analysis perspective. The associated methods make it possible to study intraindividual variability both within and between individuals. An empirical example is used to illustrate the procedure.

Abstract BACKGROUND Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) refractory to medical management is often treated with microvascular decompression (MVD) involving the intracranial placement of Teflon. The placement of Teflon is an effective treatment, but does apply distributed pressure to the nerve and has been associated with pain recurrence. OBJECTIVE To report the rate of postoperative pain recurrence in TN patients who underwent MVD surgery using a transposition technique with fibrin glue without Teflon. METHODS Patients were eligible for our study if they were diagnosed with TN, did not have multiple sclerosis, and had an offending vessel that was identified and transposed with fibrin glue at our institution. All eligible patients were given a follow-up survey. We used a Kaplan-Meier (KM) model to estimate overall pain recurrence. RESULTS A total of 102 patients met inclusion criteria, of which 85 (83%) responded to our survey. Overall, 76 (89.4%) participants responded as having no pain recurrence. Approximately 1-yr pain-free KM estimates were 94.1% (n = 83), 5-yr pain-free KM estimates were 94.1% (n = 53), and 10-yr pain-free KM estimates were 83.0% (n = 23). CONCLUSION Treatment for TN with an MVD transposition technique using fibrin glue may avoid some cases of pain recurrence. The percentage of patients in our cohort who remained pain free at a maximum of 17 yr follow-up is on the high end of pain-free rates reported by MVD studies using Teflon. These results indicate that a transposition technique that emphasizes removing any compression near the trigeminal nerve root provides long-term pain-free rates for patients with TN.
