I review research strategies, designs, methods and data in financial geography, by focussing on 449 articles published in 2001–2020. The analysis shows considerable methodological diversity and originality, contributing to geography and studies of finance. Over time, qualitative strategies, case study design and interviews as a method and data source are growing, while quantitative strategy, longitudinal design, regression methods and the use of government data are declining. The analysis helps identify gaps, opportunities and challenges, including the need for more methodological transparency, more in-depth qualitative and quantitative approaches supporting causal analysis, and a more ambitious historical and geographical scope.

Case studies are used in design research to analyze a phenomenon, to generate hypotheses, and to validate a method. Though they are used extensively, there appears to be no accepted systematic case study method used by design researchers. Considering its nature and objectives, the case study method could be considered as a suitable method for conducting design research. Many times, design researchers have to confront questions about the validity of using case studies and their results. The objective of this paper is to present a brief overview of case study method, compare it with other qualitative and quantitative research methods, and study the merits and limitations of using the same in design research. Requirements are derived from the general characteristics of design research. Four popular research strategies are evaluated with respect to the requirements. A preliminary benchmark study suggests that case study method is a suitable method for conducting design research.

AbstrakThe aim of this research is: (1) to identify the forms and categories of Indonesian words that are absorbed into Buginese sentences and (2) to reveal the reasons for the use of Indonesian elements into Buginese sentences by Facebookers in the social media. Data on this qualitative research obtained from social media ‘Facebook’. The data source of this research is the Facebookers who are members of the MABBASA UUGIE KU PESBU’ group, November 2013 to April 2014 edition. Data analyzed are Buginese sentences consisting of three to five examples of Buginese sentences containing Indonesian elements in the form of words, phrases or clauses taken purposively. Furthermore, the analysis was carried out with grounded research strategies. The results of this research indicate that (1) Buginese language can survive as a means of communication within Buginese ethnic groups when writing on the social media ‘Facebook’, due to they have obtained vocabulary contributions from Indonesian in the form of the basic word, affixation word, and phrase. In word categorization, the loan words consist of nouns, verbs, adjectives, and conjunctions. Then, (2) the use of the Indonesian language elements has four main reasons, namely (a) filling in the blanks, (b) adding equivalence variations, (c) clarifying the meaning, and (d) interference. Reasons (a) to (c) can take the form of code-mixing and code-switching.

<p>The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach with case study design. Data collection was conducted by the researcher himself as a key instrument, whereas for determining the human data source using snowball sampling technique. Data was collected by means of; (1) in-depth interviews; (2) participant observation; and (3) study the documentation. For data analysis using descriptive techniques whose application is done in three flow of activities, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion or verification. To determine the credibility of the data, conducted by a variety of techniques, namely (1) triangulation; (2) checking colleagues; and (3) checking members.</p>

Governments have adopted the rhetoric of promoting transparency, citizen engagement, and accountability through technological innovation. The provision of open government data has been encouraged as a foundational reform in that direction. This study argues that, in Paraguay’s education sector, these reforms were never capable of matching said rhetoric. Using a case study design, the research shows that the stated goals of intuitively simplifying information to facilitate citizen monitoring of funds for education infrastructure were never realistically attempted by the government. It will advocate the relevance of considering the relationship between politics, accountability, and technology to uncover transparency façades.

In a fishery business, if less careful in the care and work resulting souls become victims, accidents do not happen by itself but there is a cause.  This study aims to analyze the application of study on health and safety, to know the availability and maintenance system of health and safety tools. This study used case study method, took 5 ships randomly as sample and data source, both qualitative and quantitative. Processed in tables, and compare the availability of health and safety in each vessel according to the regulation of the safety of life at sea (SOLAS).  Occupational safety equipment (A) is almost available on all ships. The buoy equipment (B) is also almost available on all ships except life raft only on 3 ships. Communication equipment (C) HF radio and state flags are available on all ships, while signal flag are only on 3 boats, firefighters (D) are available on all ships. hose, pump, hydrant and nozle are not available. In general, the application of study on health and safety on pole and line ship has not fulfilled SOLAS requirement. Keywords: health, safety,  pole and liner. ABSTRAKPole and line alat tangkap ramah lingkungan penting menunjang kebutuhan hidup masyarakat. Faculty work now includes market-like behaviors that create research, teaching, and service opportunities. This study employs an embedded case study design to evaluate the extent to which faculty members interact with external organizations to mitigate financial constraints and how those relationships vary by academic discipline. The findings show a similar number of ties among faculty members in high- and low-resource disciplines, reciprocity between faculty members and external organizations, and an expanded conceptualization of faculty work.

This paper demonstrates how a range of linguistic methods can be harnessed in pursuit of a deeper understanding of the ‘lived experience’ of psychological disorders. It argues that such methods should be applied more in medical contexts, especially in medical humanities. Key extracts from The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath are examined, as a case study of the experience of depression. Combinations of qualitative and quantitative linguistic methods, and inter- and intra-textual comparisons are used to consider distinctive patterns in the use of metaphor, personal pronouns and (the semantics of) verbs, as well as other relevant aspects of language. Qualitative techniques provide in-depth insights, while quantitative corpus methods make the analyses more robust and ensure the breadth necessary to gain insights into the individual experience. Depression emerges as a highly complex and sometimes potentially contradictory experience for Plath, involving both a sense of apathy and inner turmoil. It involves a sense of a split self, trapped in a state that one cannot overcome, and intense self-focus, a turning in on oneself and a view of the world that is both more negative and more polarized than the norm. It is argued that a linguistic approach is useful beyond this specific case.
