Examination of the increasing number of articles employing quantitative content analysis in 1971–95 Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly showed primary focus on news/editorial content in U.S. media. Nearly half examined newspapers, and half were coauthored. Most used convenience or purposive samples. Few involved a second research method or extra-media data, explicit theoretical grounding, or research questions or hypotheses. Half reported intercoder reliability, and two-fifths used only descriptive statistics. Analysis of trends shows growth in coauthorship and reporting of reliability, and increasing emphasis on more sophisticated statistical analysis. No parallel trend exists, however, in use of explicit hypotheses/research questions or theoretical grounding.

Crowdcoding, a method that outsources “coding” tasks to numerous people on the internet, has emerged as a popular approach for annotating texts and visuals. However, the performance of this approach for analyzing social media data in the context of journalism and mass communication research has not been systematically assessed. This study evaluated the validity and efficiency of crowdcoding based on the analysis of 4,000 tweets about the 2016 U.S. presidential election. The results show that compared with the traditional quantitative content analysis, crowdcoding yielded comparably valid results and was superior in efficiency, but was more expensive under most circumstances.

In Nigeria, the majority of content analysis research tends to tilt towards the dominant quantitative method. This technique now seems overly used, overspent, and unoriginal. This paper reviews content analysis as an empirical research method that is used to study the content of text in order to make inferences that are based on findings. The plethora of quantitative content analysis research writings are predominantly on the study of newspapers with research objectives that rotate around depth, direction, frequency and prominence. This paper in a bid to critique this overly used method of writing, provided description of Content Analysis as a research method, explained the goals/objectives of content analysis as well as underscored the various qualitative methodological types. Furthermore, the uses of content analysis in relation to text were explained. This paper concluded that the content analysis research method is under-used and that there is an abundance of communication branches where the research method needs to be applied.

Joseph is a character in the Bible, and Joseph realized that all the thoughts of his brothers, all the difficulties he experienced, were solely in God's design, and God had a good purpose in the difficulties he experienced. In a sense, Joseph's personal spirituality determines how he can have an adversity quotient so that Joseph became a tough person in facing all the challenges of his life. This study aims to analyze personal spirituality and adversity quotient. The research method used is content analysis. Research questions: what is the relationship between personal spirituality and Adversity Quotient? and to what extent can personal spirituality make someone strong in AQ? The result showed that personal spirituality and adversity quotient is related to one another. Based on the text analysis, it was found that the relationship between personal spirituality and adversity quotient on content: personal spirituality that comes from family influence, personal spirituality that comes from character, Joseph's spirituality in facing challenges (family, female, wealth and power), and personal spirituality in the knowledge of God and understanding His plan thus forming his adversity quotient.

AbstractThe purpose of this research is to analyze the studies concerning the challenges faced by novice teachers in terms of various aspects and compare the challenges according to location of the studies conducted in Turkey and on abroad. 30 research studies obtained full-text form were included in detailed analysis. This is a descriptive study based on qualitative research method. In the analysis of the studies, a matrix (content analysis form) was prepared consisting of categories such as publication language, publication type, year, method, design, sample size, data collection methods, data analysis techniques and challenges faced by novice teachers. Then, studies were analyzed based on this content analysis form and the findings were presented accordingly. In addition, descriptive statistics such as frequencies, percentages and graphics were also used by using SPSS-18 program. As a result of the study, it was found that 17 of the studies were written in English, 13 of them were written in Turkish language. Of all the 30 studies; 22 studies were article, five of them were dissertation and three of them were master thesis. Half of the studies were designed as case study and almost half of them were designed as descriptive survey method. In half of the studies, qualitative research method was preferred. The most used data collection tools are survey and interview form; the most used data analysis techniques are descriptive statistics (percentage, frequency, mean, standard deviation). Most of the studies were conducted on small samples. Furthermore, it was found in the studies that novice teachers faced various challenges which were grouped under four themes named as instructional challenges, relational challenges, adaptation challenges, physical infrastructure and facilities of the school. This research is expected to determine the challenges faced by novice teachers in a broad sense based on the findings of the studies and guide for the development of induction programs.

Introduction Play is viewed as an important occupation in childhood and consequently in children's occupational therapy. However, few studies have explored the place of play in therapy practice. This study aimed to contribute to this knowledge gap by exploring play in occupational therapy in three European countries. Method A cross-sectional survey of occupational therapists in Ireland, Sweden and Switzerland was conducted to examine the use of play with children under 12 years old. A web-based survey was distributed to 935 occupational therapists, resulting in 338 returned surveys (36%). Responses were analysed using descriptive statistics and content analysis. Results Results were organised into three themes: (1) demographics and practice context; (2) play education and (3) use of play in practice. Respondents reported that although they valued play as an occupation, their primary focus was on play as a means to achieving other goals. Lack of education on play (research, theory and interventions) and pressures in the workplace were identified as barriers to play-centred practice. Conclusion Findings indicate that there is a mismatch between therapists valuing play as an occupation and how play is utilised in therapy practice. There is a need to strengthen education and research on play occupation to strengthen play-centred practice.
