Objectives: Fractures are loss of continuity of bone structure, not only cracks or separation of the cortex, fractures often result in complete damage and separate bone fragments. Fractures themselves have many different types in clinical terms, a fracture is divided into 2, complete fracture and incomplete fracture, where the treatment process and management are different. In the case of closed complete fracture, cultural and economic are still the main reason for patients to refuse medical treatment. Because of that matter, people are still reluctant to go to the hospital and prefer alternative therapy. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between therapy selection of closed complete fracture based on the condition of the socio-economic status of the patient in Raden Mattaher Hospital Jambi. Methods: The study was conducted retrospectively from medical record data of patients who experienced closed complete fracture from June 2018 to June 2019. The sampling method is using a Non-Probability sampling with a purposive sampling technique, and later the data was processed descriptively which included the patient’s socioeconomic status. Results: From the results of the research conducted from June 2018 - June 2019 in Raden Mattaher General Hospital Jambi, 125 patients were found with cases of closed complete fracture. From 125 cases of close complete fracture, as many as 91 patients (72.8%) are men with productive age who came from various fields of work. The location that is often affected is femur bone as many as 37 patients (29.6%). From 125 patients with closed complete fracture, we found that 48 patients (38.4%) prefer alternative therapy and 26 of them (54,17%) are from the Class III treatment room, 13 patients (27.08%) are from the Class II treatment room, and class I treatment room as many as 9 patients (18.75%). This shows the lower the treatment class, the higher the patient chooses alternative therapy. Conclusion: Socio-economic status is still related to the therapy selection.

AbstractEvidence from literature shows that deviant behavior is on high side among undergraduates in Nigeria whereas some certain psychosocial factors causing this phenomenon have not been fully explored. This study examined whether age, gender, socio-economic status and attitude towards drug abuse determine deviant behavior among the undergraduate students. It adopted ex-post facto design. Simple random sampling technique was used to sample 269 participants. The Prescription Drug Attitudes Questionnaire (PDAQ) and Deviant Behavior Variety Scale (DBVS) were used to gather data from the participants. T-test analysis and multiple regression were used to test the formulated hypotheses. The results revealed that age, monthly allowance and attitude towards drug abuse have significant joint prediction of deviant behavior (R=.358 R2 =.128, F=10.594, p<.05) while only attitude towards drug abuse independently predicted deviant behavior (R=.236, R2 =.056 F = 17.112; p<.01). Also, there was a significant gender difference on deviant behavior [t (293) = 4.196, p<.01], where male respondents scored high significantly (M=4.09, SD=3.44) compared to female respondents (M=2.53, SD=2.31) on deviant behavior. It is therefore recommended that policy makers in educational sector and the governing council of tertiary institutions need to create awareness on the debilitating effects of drugs on students’ behavior, especially among males.

A quantitative research method used to collect data through a well-designed questionnaire. A stratified random sampling technique used to select a sample of 400 osteoporosis patients within 35-80 years. Mann-Whitney U Test applied for a dependent, independent variable, and frequency distribution tables used for univariate analysis. Results showed that osteoporosis patients were spending more money on their household expenditures than health. The socio-economic status of osteoporosis patients is essential for the prevention of osteoporosis and their treatment. Osteoporosis is one of the major global health issues associated with socio-economic status. Background: Partial edentulism is the state of loss of one or more but not all natural teeth. Edentulism can affect the esthetics of an individual and can have a negative psychological impact. Recording the frequency of partial edentulism and its nature along with its association with different socio-demographic parameters helps to plan the treatment need and goals of the population in that locality. This cross-sectional study was conducted to find out the frequency of partial edentulism among the patients visiting the dental college of BPKIHS and its teaching district hospitals. Methods: Two hundred partially edentulous patients were selected from four hospitals by purposive sampling and their socio-demographic parameters recorded. Intra-oral examination was done to classify partial edentulous spaces according to the Kennedy-Applegate system. Data was analyzed in SPSS version 11.5 and chi-square test was used to determine the association between independent (age-group, gender, socioeconomic status) and dependent variables (number of missing teeth). Results: In both the arches, Kennedy’s class III was the most prevalent type of edentulism. In the maxillary arch, 44.5% had Kennedy’s class III edentulism whereas in the mandibular arch 34.5% had Class III. Kennedy’s class IV was least common (4% in maxillary arch and 6.5% in mandibular arch). Forty-five partially edentulous patients above 50 years of age had ≥ 4 teeth missing and 140 were from medium socio-economic status. Conclusion: Kennedy’s class III partially edentulous arches were the most prevalent type of edentulousness with periodontal disease as major etiology. It was also seen that people with medium socio-economic status were more affected by tooth loss.
