Results: To study the relationship between the ratio of the extraversion and fluid intelligence levels with the success of the professional activity of the nuclear power plants (NPP) operators. Material and methods: This paper analyzes the results of psychodiagnostic examinations of operators of main control rooms of NPPs that functioned under normal conditions. All individuals were administered the J. Raven's “Progressive matrices”, the Russian language adaptation of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) and the Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire (16PF, form A). Cross-peer review using the ranking method identified 5 groups of operators with different levels of professional success (from markedly reduced to high). Results: Using factor analysis, the dimension of the data matrix obtained during the surveys was reduced. Correlation analysis showed that out of 9 identified factors, only 2 had a statistically significant correlation with the success of professional activity, namely, the factors of extraversion (negative relationship) and intelligence (positive relationship). Based on these two factors, an automatic classification of operators was carried out using cluster analysis, as a result of which 5 classes of operators were identified. It was shown that classes A and B with a predominance of the extraversion factor included mainly (79 %) operators with a level of professional success below average. On the contrary, classes C, D and E with a predominance of the intelligence factor consisted mainly (81 %) of operators with average and above average levels of professional success. It is noteworthy that the average value of intelligence factor in one of the classes consisting of operators, advantageously with lower professional success rate (class B) was the same or even 10 T-scores higher in comparison with the classes represented mainly by operators whose success rate was assessed from medium to high. Conclusion: Factors of extraversion and intelligence are associated with the quality of performance of professional duties by the NPP control room operators under normal operating conditions. At the same time, the success of their professional activity depends not so much on the quantitative values for these factors, but on their ratio, namely: the predominance of the intelligence factor is prognostically favorable.

The paper considers the concept of professional formation and its projection on the professional training and professional activity of the prospective teacher through the concepts of formation and development. As a result of the analysis of existing views on the phases, stages and periods of professional formation, the main ones were identified, which are due to the time frame - the period before choosing the institution where professional training will be carried out, the actual professional education and the period of it. Having analyzed the set of competencies (subject, general pedagogical, professional-communicative, managerial, innovative, reflective) provided by the Federal State Educational Standard in relation to the teachers profession, as well as referring to the models of Hard-skills and Soft-skills, we identified indicators (skills) of the professional development of the prospective teacher and invited the 3rd-year students of the Institute of Russian Language and Literature of the Volgograd State Socio-Pedagogical University to evaluate these skills in the order of their significance. The assessment was carried out on a 5-point scale, where 1 point is an absolutely insignificant indicator, 2 - rather insignificant, 3 - rather significant, 4 - significant, 5 - very significant. As a result, we were able to build their gradation and divide them by areas, as well as allocate 3 levels in the process of professional development. Taking into account these levels, we considered how the educational environment can influence the professional development of future teachers through educational, extracurricular activities and through the environment.

Narcissism may be seen as the most controversial trait of the Dark Triad, character¬ized by both negative and positive aspects. This study tested the hypotheses regarding the relationship between narcissism and intelligence, tolerance for uncertainty, and the Big Five traits. The sample included two groups of participants: 1) middle managers (N=62, Mage = 37.60, SD = 8.84); 2) undergraduate and postgraduate students (N=1187, Mage = 22.37, SD = 4.44). The Dark Triad traits were measured using the Dirty Dozen questionnaire. The following measures were used: 2 subtests for fluid intelligence from the International Cognitive Ability Resource (ICAR) and 2 subscales for verbal intelligence from the Rapid Online Assessment Deployment System (ROADS); New Questionnaire for Tolerance of Uncertainty; and the Ten Item Personality Inventory (TIPI). For students, a relationship between narcissism was established with the following variables: verbal intelligence (p<0.05); tolerance to uncertainty (p <0.05) and interpersonal intolerance (p<0.01). For managers, narcissism was also linked to tolerance to uncertainty (p<0.05). Positive correlations between narcissism, extroversion, and openness to experience and a negative relationship with emotional stability were established among students. It is concluded that the relationship between narcissism, verbal intelligence, and tolerance for uncertainty reflects the “light” side of narcissism.

The relationship between anxiety and performance in assessment centre dimensions. This study is aimed at determining whether there is a relationship between Anxiety (Tension and Anxiety), as measured by the Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire, and performance in assessment centre dimensions. The data set was collected from 145 white male candidates on entry and middle management level in an auditing firm in Gauteng. Ages of candidates varied from 24 to 35 years (x = 27,52; sd = 6,33). By using regression analyses it was found that Tension and Anxiety mainly show a negative relationship with the so-called interpersonal behaviour dimensions, such as Perseverance, Eogical and persuasive reasoning ability, and Perceived leadership image. The multiple analyses of variance (MANOVAS) for the low, middle and high tension groups and low, middle and high anxiety groups revealed no statistically significant differences in respect of the assessment centre dimensions as a whole. Implications of the findings are discussed in the article.

AbstractThis study investigates the negative relationship between fluid and crystallised intelligence and Conscientiousness subfactors within the New Zealand workplace. Fluid and crystallised intelligence were assessed via the General Reasoning Test Battery 2 (GRT2; N = 1629). Two personality inventories were employed: The Fifteen-Factor Questionnaire (15FQ; N = 546), and the Occupational Personality Profile (OPP; N = 1083). 15FQ subfactors of Conscientious and Disciplined negatively correlated with fluid and crystallised intelligence. OPP subfactors of Detail-Conscious and Conformity also negatively correlated with fluid and crystallised intelligence. Subfactors for both personality measures correlated more strongly with crystallised than fluid intelligence. This finding is contrary to an earlier finding that Conscientiousness negatively correlates with fluid, but not crystallised intelligence (Moutafi, Furnham, & Paltiel, 2004). An explanation for this difference is discussed and the Intelligence Compensation Theory is introduced as an explanation for the observed relationships.
