The aim of this paper is to explore the frequency of experiences of discrimination and violence among persons with various types of disabilities, investigate the correlation of these topics with particular sociodemographic characteristics and with the level of happiness and life satisfaction, and identify which one of the various personal well-being domains is particularly connected with discrimination and violence. The empirical study was conducted among 684 persons with various types of disabilities in the city of Zagreb, Croatia. The results indicate a high percentage of experienced discrimination and violence in all groups of respondents, especially the deaf and those hard of hearing. Both topics are negatively correlated with the level of personal happiness, life satisfaction and all domains of personal well-being. It was found that the frequency of these experiences is related to younger age, and to lower income and poor economic status. The results point to the need for a multi-disciplinary and comprehensive engagement on reducing discrimination and violence over persons with disabilities.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to identify the profiles of those frequenting full-service restaurants and eating raw vegetable salads, as well as to analyze the influence of socio-demographic variables and of the tendency for social desirability in consumption frequencies. Design/methodology/approach – A non-probabilistic consumer sample (n=630) was interviewed in the city of Campinas, Brazil. Besides the frequency of eating in full-service restaurants and the frequency of eating salads (as a function of the meal type and week day) in this type of restaurant, the survey instrument was also composed by socio-demographic variables and a social desirability scale. To compare data, non-parametric tests were used. Findings – Of the interviewees, 52.3 percent were shown to eat in full-service restaurants at least once a week. The frequency of eating salads in full-service restaurant stood out as being significantly higher (p<0.05) for weekday lunches. Individuals who graduated in the areas of health or food showed a significantly higher frequency for the consumption of salads at weekends. Apparently the social desirability did not influence the responses of the consumers with respect to the frequencies studied. Research limitations/implications – The sample was of a non-probabilistic type, bringing reservations with respect to generalizations. Practical implications – Socio-demographic variables should be considered in elaborating strategies for promoting vegetable salads consumption in restaurants. Health and nutrition education programs can be effective in aiding consumers to choose healthier food in this context. Originality/value – Studies about frequency of salad consumption in restaurants are scarce. The influence of social desirability bias on reported frequency was analyzed in this paper.

The purpose of this study is to examine the correlation between Teachers' Self-efficacy beliefs, locus of control and intercultural sensitivities and to analyze these variables based on various demographic variables. The data of the study were collected through teachers’ locus of control scale developed by Sadowski, Taylor, Woodward, Peacher, & Martin (1982) adopted into Turkish by Buluş (2011), teachers’ self-efficacy beliefs scale developed by Dellinger, Bobbett, Olivier, & Ellet (2008) adopted into Turkish by Taşkın & Hacıömeroglu (2010) and Intercultural Sensitivity scale developed by Chen & Starosta (2000) adopted into Turkish by Bulduk, Tosun, & Ardıç (2011). The research is a descriptive study in relational screening model. 237 volunteer teachers who worked in different schools all of which are in the city of Bursa participated in the research. According to the results of the research, the self-efficacy beliefs of the teachers participating in the research differ significantly from the variables studied in the scope of the research according to the branch and seniority variables. The intercultural sensitivity of the teachers differed significantly only according to the seniority variable. It has been determined that the level of locus of control of teachers is not significantly different from the variables studied in the scope of the research. It was determined that there was a statistically significant relationship between teachers’ self-efficacy beliefs; intercultural sensitivity and locus of control levels. It was also found that self-efficacy beliefs and intercultural sensitivity variables together account for 30% of change in locus of control.

The research aims to diagnose the most important demographic variables for the teaching staff that contribute significantly to the adoption of self-evaluation standards for educational institutions in the Iraqi ministry of education. The intellectual and field principles of the current research were based on a new philosophical perspective that simulates the contents of the personal characteristics of the teaching staff and embodies the possibility of adopting them in improving the quality of the educational process. The research was conducted in a number of public schools in the city of Kirkuk / Iraq by depending on   the opinions survey of a sample of teachers and administrators in the schools surveyed in the city of Kirkuk. Regarding the research population and sample the research population consists of teaching staff in primary schools in the city of Kirkuk, and then selecting a random sample of 100 respondents from the teaching staff in primary schools affiliated to the Kirkuk education directorate.   A hypothetical scheme was formulated that reflects the consensual relationships between the study dimensions, namely demographic variables as an independent variable (explanatory) and self-evaluation criteria as a followed variable (dependent) thus resulting the main hypothesis which is the null hypothesis that; demographic factors do not affect the adoption of self-evaluation criteria in the researched organizations. It was tested using a number of statistical methods by using the SPSS program, such as a t-test which was conducted, as well as one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), with the aim of explaining the extracted factors as expressing the reality and nature of the relationship between the research variables. The research has concluded that there is no significant effect for sex, educational qualification, experience, academic achievement, and training courses on cognitive performance; skills, values, and trends except for age groups that have impacts on performance dimensions. Based on this, some proposals were indicated, the most important of which are: The school administrations (the research sample) should reconsider the reasons that lead to not benefiting from years of experience and training courses in the areas of improving performance, and then put in place mechanisms that ensure that the gained experience and the courses are more influential in performance.

The present article characterizes the decision making process and migratory reasons towards the city of Havana in the period 1959-2000, from a gender perspective; that allows analyzing the participation and interaction of men and women in this process, based on the norms and values that prevail in society and that will influence the roles and activities that are assigned differently to each other from a set of socio-demographic variables which intervene in this process. Descriptive statistical methods are used, as well as indexes and measures taken from the demographic analysis that allow to verify: first, a quantitative feminization in the migration, and secondly, the majority percentage weight that men versus women mark with respect to this set of socio-demographic characteristics. Finally, three temporal profiles are constructed that describe the behaviour by gender in the decision and the reasons for the migration.
