A nominative unit of any language should be considered as a certain invariant capable of containing characteristics of a word and its forms or characteristics of a word combination and its forms respectively. The purpose of the paper is to analyze features of composites as one of speech implementations of the complex-type nominathemes. The purpose has stipulated following tasks: 1) to consider motivational relations established between a word combination and its equivalent; 2) to describe criteria of identity of a nominatheme with its modifications – word combinations and composites. Methods. The research has involved a series of methods according to its topic: a method of continuous sampling to accumulate factual material; a method of distributive analysis to differentiate the concepts; a descriptive method to describe and generalize the status of the units under consideration. Conclusions. A nominatheme, being capable of containing characteristics of both word combination and its forms, is the basic linguistic unit under consideration. Eight structural varieties of complex-type nominathemes have been singled out; they are a part of 14 varieties of such kind. Composites of different types, as the units where nominathemes with a complex-type dominant-word combination are implemented linguistically, make up a considerable number of structural varieties of those invariants, i.e.: 1) word combination + composite + elliptic univerb; 2) word combination + composite + elliptheme (main word); 3) word combination + abbreviation-type composite + abbreviation + elliptic univerb; 4) word combination + abbreviation-type composite + elliptic univerb + elliptheme (main word) + abbreviation; 5) word combination + abbreviation-type composite + elliptheme (main word); 6) word combination + elliptic univerb + abbreviation-type composite + elliptheme (main word); 7) word combination + elliptic univerb + abbreviation + compressive univerb.

Lexicography actively studies the integral description of words in order to understand not only the historical change in definition of the work, but also the functionality of certain words. This article describes the lexicographic portrait of the noun “age”, as well as examines the use of co-occurrence denoting the age of a person in the modern Russian language. Working with different types of dictionaries (historical, explanatory, word-forming, associative, and synonym), the author analyzes the changes in the semantics, development of word-formation and co-occurrence capacity of the linguistic unit based on the integral description. The noun “age” has numerous co-occurrence as it has appeared in the Russian language long ago, which also entailed changes in its definition. This author examines co-occurrence of the noun “age” used in dictionaries, as well as conducts their classification by biological, social, psychological, and mixed characteristics. Leaning on the Russian National Corpus, the article examines the use of the noun “age” in the modern Russian language, and its classification by the aforementioned characteristics. The conclusion is made on the frequency of the use of these characteristics.

The goal of this article is to analyze the principles and methods of using the precedent semantics of literary onyms in the process of metaphorization of the high-profile international event Brexit in contemporary (2016–2021) Russian-language media discourse. The research material encompasses media discourse, from which fragments of online versions of Russian-language newspaper and journalistic texts of different genres and socio-political orientation have been selected. As an additional source of empirical material, the author uses the newspaper subcorpus of the national corpus of the Russian language, as well as the Russian-language subcorpus of the international databases Eastview and Aranea. In order to achieve the main goal of the research the author uses the method of continuous sampling, methods of corpus linguistics, methods of content analysis, as well as narrative and contextual analysis (of fragments of media discourse), linguocultural analysis of texts, methods of conceptual analysis and interpretation. Thanks to the use of methods of corpus linguistics, more than 400 contextual realizations of the use of precedent names in connotative metaphorical meaning (in connection with Brexit) have been collected and analyzed. The article presents only the most expressive and most common examples of metaphorization of precedent names when describing the discursive event of Brexit. On the basis of the analysis, the author concludes that the so-called universal-precedent phenomena (mainly of English but also European literature) prevail in the process of metaphorization compared to those of Russian literature, which are extremely rare. In the paper’s study, the author also focuses on the fact that precedent names in the process of metaphorization undergo desemanticization (simplification of the meaning) and become distinctive cultural stereotypes. Initial hypothesis that the intertextuality of the Russian media discourse has a pronounced literary-centric character is confirmed.

The work is devoted to a multidimensional consideration of the terminology of morphology and word-formation in the East Slavic grammars of the 16th century. (The Grammar of 1586, The Grammar "Adelfotis" in 1591, The Grammar of Lavrеntii Zizanii in 1596) The term is a linguistic unit for special purposes, which is the verbalized result of professional thinking, which denotes the concept of a certain scientific theory and serves to coding (concentration, fixation, storage), transmission (transfer of information), communicate, transmutation of knowledge (cognition: comprehension, processing, augmentation) and orientation in a certain special area, therefore an important place in describing the terminology of the past is assigned to the orientational aspect, which allows us to analyze the terms not only from the perspective of origin, word-formation, functioning, but also from the perspective of the explanation of the rationality of the author's nomination and the appropriateness of the perception of it by the addressee. Terminology is explored through the prism of the linguistic persona of grammarians by using the method of logical-semantic analysis. At the stage of generation of the terminology of the doctrine of morphemic and word formation, the large number of calquing terms (almost 50% of the total number) was used. The Russian basis of the calquing was found out, which consists in the existence in the Russian language of the lexical-semantic method of derivation. Also for this stage, the functioning of terms formed by substantivation is characterized. Dynamics of the exponent of terms of morphology and word-formation of the XVI century is due to the variation and synonymy, the dynamics of significatum – the reality (changes in language) and the development of scientific knowledge. In the XVI century the terminological system in the field of word-formation is formed as a system, with enough clearly appeared hypo-hyperonical relations.

The authors investigate the phenomenon of species substitution in official and unofficial names of stones, minerals and metals in the Russian language. Examples of species substitutions are the cases when the designation of a particular mineral (stone, metal) contains the name of a mineral or a metal of another type (class, category), e. g. the Ural emerald ‘demantoid’, the cat's gold ‘mica of golden colour’, pseudomalachite ‘water-phosphate of copper’ etc. As a rule, the objects chosen as a standard for comparing the nominated object with another one are those that were identified earlier than the nominated object and to which a greater value was attributed in many cases (most often the standards are the most valuable precious stones or precious metals (diamond, ruby, emerald, gold). The article presents some typical categories of mineralogical vocabulary which often include nominations with species substitution (for example, trade and everyday names that ‘raise the status’ of a mineral – Siberian diamond ‘colourless topaz’; pejorative names that indicate a false relationship between minerals – false diamond ‘rock crystal’; neutral names that capture the actual external or chemical similarity of objects – black amber ‘jet’, etc.). Separately, the authors focus on combinations with the lexeme gold which denote both substances not related to gold and alloys of gold and other metals – this allows us to trace in detail the possibilities of the separate lexeme’s participation in word formation resulting in nominations with species substitution. The authors propose their own motivational reconstructions for a number of ‘golden’ cases (for example, for mouse gold ‘marcasite’, frog gold ‘platinum’, etc.).

The concept of “morphological / grammatical means” is widely used in studies on the Russian language, although there is no generally accepted interpretation. This work analyzes the reflection of this concept in Russian studies and clarifies the status of those linguistic units that are traditionally referred to as morphological means: form-building affixes, alternating sounds (internal inflection), stress, supplementary word stems, auxiliary words, intonation, as well as word order. Our research has shown that these linguistic units have different functional status in the morphological structure of the Russian language. First, these are categorical, or actually morphological, means, represented by formative affixes and auxiliary words. They are carriers of morphological meanings in the structure of abstracted morphological forms – the basic units of inflectional Russian morphology. Secondly, a non-categorical means, syncretic and accidental for morphology, are supplementary stems that contain not only lexical, but also morphological meaning and thus duplicate the expression of morphological information in a word form with a form-building affix. Thirdly, these are linguistic units that are not elements of the morphological structure, but have morphological significance, which is manifested in their ability to differentiate homonymous morphological forms in the structure of word forms (alternating sounds and stress) or utterances (intonation). Word order can also perform a similar function. The study allows us to clarify the definition of the concept under consideration: morphological means are linguistic units that are carriers of morphological meanings and constituents of morphological forms.

Communion as part of speech occupies a special place in the structure of the Russian language, since it represents a problematic aspect of grammar. Already when determining the grammatical status of participle, the first difficulties appear, which is associated with hybrid features of participle, since it combines the features of two independent parts of speech - the adjective and the verb. The works of linguists describe different approaches to determining the status of communion. At present, it is possible to state the existence in Russian grammar of several points of view on the definition of the nature of communion.

The current status of the Russian language in modern Kyrgyzstan is vague and precarious. Historically, Russians and the Russian language have been a backbone of Kyrgyz culture that paved the way for an unprecedented rise in literacy and a socio-economic upswing in this small mountainous country during Communism. However, post-Soviet times have witnessed an advent of revisionist tendencies in rethinking of the Communist past where Russians and their language are implicitly associated with historical injustices towards titular nations. Russian lingua franca as a means of inter-ethnic communication has become a source of controversy and a matter of debates. The Kyrgyz are divided along the lines of those politically-motivated public figures, who seek to exploit the status of the Russian language in their election campaigns. A package of laws providing exclusive use of Kyrgyz language in office and administration has been recently adopted in an attempt to place limits on the Russian language. These developments are widely regarded as discriminative towards not only Russian but also other minority languages in the country. On the other hand, the overwhelming majority of Kyrgyz intellectuals still hold a strong view that Russians and the Russian language deserve better in Kyrgyzstan.

The article is devoted to the study of delayed (post-traumatic) stress caused by different types of stressful situations (death of a loved one, life-threatening diseases, traffic accidents, situations of physical and emotional violence) during early adulthood, the analysis of specific psychological markers of its intensity. The study involved 509 people (232 men and 277 women) aged 17 to 35 years (Me = 21; SD = 4,3). Methods: Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Checklist (PCL-5) in the Russian-language adaptation by N. V. Tarabrina and co-authors for the diagnosis of stressful events and their psychological consequences; the list of stress situations contained in the Life Events Checklist (LEC-5) for DSM-5; the Symptom Check List-90-r-Revised (SCL-90-R) technique in the Russian-language adaptation by N. V. Tarabrina and co-authors was used to evaluate psychopathological symptoms. It has been shown that the most severe in intensity posttraumatic stress causes situations that pose a threat to the physical and psychological well-being of a person at the same time (violence and life-threatening disease). Taking into account the level of mental trauma and the type of stressor, an analysis of a number of features of psychopathological symptoms was carried out. The results of the study made it possible to identify markers of severe post-traumatic stress, which were indicators of violation of contact with reality, expressed in distancing a person from the surrounding reality, distrust of the world, suspicion, phobic anxiety.

The aim of the article is to introduce the authors’ perspective on how English loanwords are changing the structure and the content of the verbal code of Russian culture and the Russian linguistic pictures of the world, as well as on how the latter might change the former. Having used the continuous sampling method, observation method, and synchronic-diachronic approach (lexical semantic analysis, comparative semantic analysis, morphological and quantitative analysis), the authors have allocated and analyzed 487 loanwords, which led to the introduction of three distinguished types of interaction between the verbal code of the Russian language and foreign loanwords. The first interaction type is the process whereby the loanwords adapt semantically to the rules of the host language and culture, which leads to the complete change of a loanword meaning or its modification (15 words). The second interaction type is connected with the loanwords bringing new concepts to a host language and indicating borrowed ideas and objects (270 words). The differentiation of these two interaction types is based on the results of a synchronic and diachronic study of the loanwords in Russian. The analyzed interaction types are linked to the changes in the host language’s verbal code. A concept of a “hybrid linguistic picture of the world” is being introduced as the one constituting the third interaction type (201 words). According to the authors, the hybrid linguistic picture of the world is developing at the current stage of the Russian language and is caused by the process of the morphological adaptation of English loanwords, which is manifested in the production of hybrid words and Russian words being actively substituted by English borrowings.
