The effect of some acids, anions and auxiliary complexing agents on the extraction of Cadmium (II) from aqueous solutions buffered to pH 7.5 using a chloroform solution of the Schiff base ligand 4,4´-(1E,1E´)-1,1´-(ethane-1,2-diylbis(azan-1-yl-1ylidene))bis(5-methyl-2-phenyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrazol-3-ol) (H2BuEtP) alone and in the presence of 1-(3-hydroxy-5-methyl-2-phenyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrazol-4-yl) butan-1-one (HBuP) after an equilibration time of sixty minutes was investigated. Working concentration of Cd(II) was 50mgL-1, while a range from 0.001M-3.0M was used for acid and 0.001M-1.0M for anions and auxiliary complexing agents. Extraction raffinates were analysed for Cd(II) using Flame Atomic Absorption spectrophotometry and Distribution Ratios. Percentage Extractions (%E) were calculated by difference of Cd(II) concentrations before and after equilibration. The mixed ligands H2BuEtP/HBuP organic phase was a better extractant for Cadmium than H2BuEtP alone but the difference was not significant for all acids, Cl-, Oxalate and Tartrate. The results indicated that at lower concentrations of the acids, anions and auxiliary complexing agents, a releasing effect occurred with improved extraction of Cadmium > 90% in most cases and at high concentrations there was reduced percentage extraction due to masking of Cadmium from formation of stable salts of Cadmium. Comparing results with other those of other metals studied under same conditions showed that multi-metal extraction with the ligand (H2BuEtP) is possible. H3PO4, H2SO4, HCl, PO43-, EDTA and Oxalate all showed theoretical potentials for separating Cadmium from other studied metals with Separation Factors βxy = Dx/Dy close to and above 104.

The concentration of Cu, Fe, Pb, Zn and As in the surface water intended for human consumption and other uses in the Mantaro River basin were analysed using multivariate methods. The water samples were collected from seven water bodies in the Junín region in June 2019, in the low discharge period. In each body of water, a sector with six sampling sites was established. The Cu, Fe, Pb, Zn and As contents were determined by the flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry method. The correlation analysis revealed positive and significant correlations (P < 0.05) for the Zn/Pb, Pb/Fe and Zn/Fe pairs with a good association, higher than 0.80 and for the Pb/Cu, Fe/Cu, As/Pb and As/Zn pairs a weak degree of association (P < 0.05). The analysis of the main components showed three components with their own values > 1. The hierarchical grouping analysis classified the evaluated water bodies into three groups according to the concentration of the Cu, Fe, Pb, Zn and As. The high concentrations of heavy metals and arsenic recorded in the CIMIRM and MERIS irrigation channels reveal that the Mantaro River continues to be a sink for mine wastewater discharges and runoff from mining liabilities at the headwaters of the Mantaro basin. It is, therefore, necessary to implement urgent management policies to control and reduce the levels of contamination by potentially toxic metals and metalloids in the Mantaro River.

Heavy metal pollution of water is a major environmental problem facing the modem world. The major objective of this research was to evaluate the potential of water-speedwell plant,Veronica becabonga L. to uptake and accumulate heavy metal cadmium under greenhouseconditions, Veronica becabonga L., were cultured in 3% Hoagland's nutrient medium, whichwas supplemented with 0, 25, 50,100, 200, 300 mg/I of Cd(NO3)2 4H2O over one weektreatment period. Plants were harvested at the end of this period and heavy metals from theentire shoot tissue was extracted using the closed Teflon vessel method and metal content inthe extract was estimated using a Flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The resultsshowed that the uptake and accumulation of Cd in V becabonga L. showed significantincrease when metal concentration was increased. The highest amount of Cd accumulationwas detected at 100mg/I Cd(NO3)24H2O in the culture solution that was 20660.3 mg/kg DWof shoots. The linear pattern of uptake suggest the involvement of both active and passivetransport mechanisms for Cd uptake, Finally, since the high concentrations cadmiumaccumulation in shoots of plants has far exceeded 0.01% DW V becabonga L. is ahyperaccumulator plant for this metal and has potential for phytoremediation of watercontaminated with cadmium,

The risk to human health due the consumption of vegetables is based on the characterization of harmful effects that can develop in the human body in case of the long-term eating of these products. At the same time, when people consume vegetables, it is possible to reduce their content of pollutants by heat treatment, for example, cooking. Therefore, it is relevant to compare the risk that occurs when eating raw and boiled vegetables. Purpose. Determination of environmental risk from the eating of vegetables (carrots and potatoes) with high concentrations of chemical elements and the ability to reduce them in case of boiling. Methods. Field, atomic absorption spectrophotometry, statistical methods were used. Results. On the basis of field-based research, the content of heavy metals - lead, cadmium, zinc, copper and iron and nitrates in cooked and raw carrots and potatoes - was determined on the farmland located in Shevchenkovo settlement of the Kharkiv region and laboratory studies. It turned out that virtually all metals concentrations do not have excessived MAC. To determine the level of influence of cooking on the fruit the relative content of heavy metals before and after cooking were researched. Based on the results of laboratory analysis, the coefficients of concentration of heavy metals in plant products were calculated and the environmental risk from the consumption of vegetables in food was calculated. When comparing all risk agents among themselves by hazard ratios, the predominance of nitrates and cadmium in all samples was detected. It should also be noted that there is a high risk of lead, copper and iron found in carrots. Comparison of test objects with the overall environmental risk for health from their use showed that the highest risk is crude carrots, and the lowest - potatoes are cooked. Heat treatment of carrots reduces the overall risk by only 25%, and potato - by 40%. Conclusions. It is established that after heat treatment almost all substances are partially derived from vegetables. Analysis of the changes occurring in potatoes and carrots after cooking indicates a reduction in the risk of the disease. The risk of the onset of diseases in virtually all organs is highest when carrots are consumed raw.

The distribution of Fe(II) between buffered aqueous solution and chloroform solution of N,N’-Ethylenebis(4-butanoyl-2-4-dihydro-5-methyl-2-phenyl-3H-pyrazol-3-oneimine)(H2BuEtP) was investigated. The effect of 4-butanoyl-2-4-dihydro-5-methyl-2-phenyl-3H-pyrazol-3-one(HBuP) in the distribution was also studied. Fe(II) concentration in aqueous raffinate was determined colorimetrically and distribution ratios and percentage extractions calculated by difference from Fe(II) in aqueous phase before and after equilibrations. The optimal pH for Fe(II) distribution slightly lowered to 8.00 in mixed ligands(H2BuEtP/HBuP) organic phase from 8.25 in ligand (H2BuEtP) alone organic phase. The pH range at which quantitative extraction of Fe(II) from aqueous buffered solution into both type of organic phases used for the study was very narrow. The extraction parameters; pH1/2, log D from extraction plots, and log Kex calculated using extraction equations derived from slope analysis showed that the values in both type of organic phases were very close even though mixed ligands(H2BuEtP/HBuP) organic phase values were slightly higher and better. Slope analysis also indicated that the Fe(II) complexes extracted into both organic phases were Fe(BuEtP)o and Fe(HBuEtP)(BuP)o respectively.

Rapid thermal annealing (RTA) of ion-implanted Si is important for device fabrication. The defect structures of 2.5, 4.0, and 6.0 MeV As-implanted silicon irradiated to fluences of 2E14, 4E14, and 6E14, respectively, have been analyzed by electron diffraction both before and after RTA at 1100°C for 10 seconds. At such high fluences and energies the implanted As ions change the Si from crystalline to amorphous. Three distinct amorphous regions emerge due to the three implantation energies used (Fig. 1). The amorphous regions are separated from each other by crystalline Si (marked L1, L2, and L3 in Fig. 1) which contains a high concentration of small defect clusters. The small defect clusters were similar to what had been determined earlier as being amorphous zones since their contrast was principally of the structure-factor type that arises due to the difference in extinction distance between the matrix and damage regions.

SummaryChanges in platelets in 48 patients with uterine myoma before and after hysterectomy with and without ovariectomy were examined. Bilateral ovariectomy in 25 cases (ovariec-tomized group) and unilateral or non-ovariectomy in 23 cases (control group) were performed at the hysterectomy. Platelet count and an appearance rate of secondary aggregation decreased at one day after and increased at one week after the operation, similarly in both the ovariectomized and the control group. The appearance rate of secondary aggregation was reflected in an intensity of aggregation at 5 min after the addition of reagent to PRP. At one month after the operation, the appearance rate of secondary aggregation induced by 3 μM ADP showed a statistically significant decrease in comparison with the preoperation value (P <0.05) and the enhancement of 5-min aggregation was still observed in the control group, while ceased in the ovariectomized group. The difference between the two groups was significant (P < 0.05). There was almost no change in the speed and intensity of primary and secondary aggregation during the observation period. No significant differences in collagen-induced aggregation were noted between the two groups. The results suggest that ovarian hormones, mainly estrogen, facilitate platelet activation which is mediated by the so-called secondary aggregation.

In Uruguay, Lacanian ideas arrived in the 1960s, into a context of Kleinian hegemony. Adopting a discursive approach, this study researched the initial reception of these ideas and its effects on clinical practices. We gathered a corpus of discursive data from clinical cases and theoretical-doctrinal articles (from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s). In order to examine the effects of Lacanian ideas, we analysed the difference in the way of interpreting the clinical material before and after Lacan's reception. The results of this research illuminate some epistemological problems of psychoanalysis, especially the relationship between theory and clinical practice.

ABSTRACT The fractional determination of 17-ketosteroids in the daily urine was performed in nine cases of hyperemesis gravidarum and in four control cases, in the first trimester of pregnancy both before and after corticotrophin administration. The excretion of total 17-KS is similar in the two groups. Only in the hyperemesis group does the excretion of total 17-KS increase significantly after corticotrophin administration. The fractional determination reveals no difference between the two groups of patients with regard to the values of the fractions U (unidentified 17-KS), A (androsterone) and Rest (11-oxygenated 17-KS). The excretion of dehydroepiandrosterone is significantly higher in the hyperemesis group than in the control group. The excretion of androstanolone seems to be lower in the hyperemesis group than in the control group, but the difference is not statistically significant. The differences in the correlation between dehydroepiandrosterone and androstanolone in the two groups is significant. The high excretion of dehydroepiandrosterone and low excretion of androstanolone in cases of hyperemesis gravidarum is a sign of adrenal dysfunction.

Abstract An automatic tread gaging machine has been developed. It consists of three component systems: (1) a laser gaging head, (2) a tire handling device, and (3) a computer that controls the movement of the tire handling machine, processes the data, and computes the least-squares straight line from which a wear rate may be estimated. Experimental tests show that the machine has good repeatability. In comparisons with measurements obtained by a hand gage, the automatic machine gives smaller average groove depths. The difference before and after a period of wear for both methods of measurement are the same. Wear rates estimated from the slopes of straight lines fitted to both sets of data are not significantly different.
